Redditor NAILS The Spectacular Implosion Of The Left

I’ve been out most of the day handling last minute pre-Christmas to-do’s, however a friend sent me a link to this post made by redditor “rationalcomment” on why the left has committed suicide – full helium bag. The post has almost 2000 upvotes and SIX “gold” (meaning, six people liked it enough to spend $5 and “gild” the post).  Since the comment was made in the “advice animals” subreddit – outside of a free thought zone (the_donald), there’s a good chance these words won’t live to see the end of the day – so I have immortalized them in these most hallowed halls of iBC.

———

Looks like Russia finally helped the Democrats deliver on their promise of transparency.

What is sad about the Dems is that at a time when they should be introspecting, they’re looking to shift blame for their own failures, ensuring that the DNC establishment doesn’t actually change. This election wasn’t actually a referendum on Trump, it was a referendum on what passes for the modern representatives of the liberal left in America, the Democratic party.

They’re blaming the loss on everything, from sexism of Bernie supporters to Russia to fake news to everyone who voted against them being stupid. The left finally got an actual populist that talked about actual real issues like trade deals, stopping monopolies and putting term limits on Congress, and what did the DNC do? They crushed him to continue the failed policies of the liberal establishment.

They have abandoned their core principles. What passes for “liberal” today in America has almost nothing to do with classic liberalism (individual rights, freedom of thought/speech…etc). The great liberal tradition that rejects regressive dogmatic ideologies and which is compassionate to the working class stiffs that build the country is now gone. The left-wing movement in this country, at least going back the last 20 years or so, hasn’t really been one of left-wing economics or individualistic free thinking, or using government to improve the lives of the working and middle classes. What’s passed for left-wing politics in this country is really just identity politics: promising to give various handouts to some identifiable minority group (blacks, women, illegal immigrants, lgbt…etc).

Democrats, you have completely and utterly lost touch with the common man, whose concerns used to be at the very center of the political left.

Today that electrician stringing up wires of homes in Wisconsin, that welder putting together steel plates in Pennsylvania, that man whose chapped hands are wielding a big wrench in Ohio, the many men across the country with dirt under their nails from working with their hands….these aren’t your people anymore.

Instead you are now the party of the gender studies graduate with manicured nails, lecturing others about the evil racist sexist America, telling the struggling white working class that they hold white privilege and therefore hold an eternal debt to all non-white people based purely on the color of their skin.

The DNC is the the party of those who go absolutely nuts when a Christian baker doesn’t want to be forced to bake a cake for a gay wedding, yet instantly jumps in to defend insanely backwards ideologies like Islam when yet another Muslim mass murders innocent homosexuals.

It is the party of collusion with media to mislead the public, of corruption and saying nice empty platitudes that have been filtered through 5 focus groups as to not offend anyone while doing the very opposite of these platitudes.

It is the party of Black Lives Matter, the oppression Olympics, of 20 different gender pronouns, virtue signalling and all the noxious ideas like “social justice” that claim that all difference in outcome must be due to some etheral discrimination, and that places the collectivist forced equality of outcome over the rights of an individual.

It is the party of the smug air of moral superiority, of ivory tower attitudes holding contempt and instantly discounting the views of regular people that don’t hold a degree studying Critical Theory or the works of Juddith Butler.

And what has this disconnect lead to? The following:

  • Republicans have won a majority in the House of Representatives, with 238 seats.
  • Republicans have won the majority in the Senate.
  • Republicans now hold 33 Governorships, with a gain of three seats on November 8.
  • Republicans control a record 68 of 98 state legislative chambers.
  • Republicans now hold more total state legislature seats, well over 4,100 of the 7,383, than they have since 1920
  • A former reality TV star with no government experience whatsoever won the White House.
  • President Trump will have one Supreme Court vacancy to fill immediately and could potentially add at least two more justices before his first term is finished.

The GOP now controls all levels of our government, it is the most powerful it has been in over 80 years according to Real Clear Politics and Washington Post.

Come the midterms in 2018, the electorate map looks really good for the GOP and they could easily win enough seats to pass the threshold needed for them to start changing the Constitution completely unopposed.

You could have prevented this. You could have kicked out the out of touch elitists and candidates that can’t connect with the average person, you could have listened to the common man instead you treated them like utter garbage, with the insufferable arrogance of guilt tripping and shaming everyone who disagrees with your identity politics nonsense.

You made this bed.

And god damn do you deserve to now sleep in it.

Some truth to this. HRC was awful candidate. Democrats did spend too much time focusing on LGBT etc.. Podesta should be jailed for incompetence. But always easier to oppose than govern. And, fact is that more Americans voted for Trump’s opponent.

Let’s see what happens when Trump gets frustrated by a committee chairman from South Dakota which has fewer people than a Trump condo complex. Let’s see what happens when he gets investigated for this or that which is inevitable. Will the “common man” get frustrated by policies constructed by a cabinet of billionaires? Jobs are shrinking and will continue to shrink as a result of automation. Carrier is automating instead of moving to Mexico. Trump will soon learn that military force can’t destroy terrorists.

Our country’s safety depends on comprehensive intelligence gathering shared between nations, including Muslim ones. If Trump alienates them then we are fighting one-eyed. My major concern is that his intelligence bench is second string and he will try to get things done solo. Hope for all of our sake he succeeds, but rarely events unfold as expected.

Why doesn’t anyone talk about Mook? Is he that good that he can divert the the failure of his campaign strategy onto Comey? He must hold some powerful mojo over the Klintons.

0bama knew early the campaign failed when Trump posted the winning numbers. Seriously, when you have illegals and dead people voting and lose, it’s time to pack it up and move on to retirement.

Iron.. as usual I don’t understand what you are saying… no biggie…election is over..

Let’s see how Trump performs in real time. Already he’s lame by characterizing a terrorist act against Germany as a swipe at Christians. If Trump relies on Flynn for objective intelligence advice he’s fucked, and so are we. The number of terrorist attacks will skyrocket under the new team. Bet on it.

    ZPN…

Trump has never had dirt under his nails. Nor has Hilary. You are absolutely right about the democratic party no longer being the party of the working man. Beating on democrats won’t turn Trump into the Jacksonian hero you guys want to believe he is. The guy was born with a silver spoon in hand and had everything handed to him… 100 million dollar inheritance that he could have done more with had he invested in a Vanguard fund. Who in the billionaire cabinet has ever had dirt under their nails?

That is some preposterous bullshit. Period.

But to pretend the republican party has ever done a thing for the working man is ludicrous. You are seriously trying to rewrite history here. Reagan… the other son of God to you folks… destroyed union rights.

My dad was a union man. Started fixing the toilet paper rolling machine at the Charmin factory in 78 and retired with a 6 figure salary. Unionman. Not too fond of the 1000 work breaks but valued the retirement benefits, pensions, insurance for entire family. The workers in this country are suffering. The republican party has always been antiunion and pro business.

It has been the party of the robber barons and billionaires since 1877. Google that election if you still trust Google. Or Bing it or whatever.

Republicans gave FDR shit for over a decade calling him a commie, much like you all do with Obama. Hoover burned down the homes of veterans. Roosevelt gave them food. Social security and old age pensions were the Obamacare of their day. He was a class traitor. He was a commie. He was boys with Stalin. He wasn’t growing the economy as fast as Hitler was. He was controlling prices and destroying capitalism. He was regulating stocks. He was regulating banks. The market bounced back under his administration. 1937 recession was a result of decreased spending to appease Republicans for the election. Then he built a bomb. Then we won the war. And before you drop some bullshit insulting me because getting A’s in college makes me a homo…

I didn’t learn my history at my fancy college… I learned it reading encyclopedias older than you are front to back because Grandma had a shitty selection of toys.

FDR’s quasi-socialist policies put us on the map. We rule the world because we have a government that participates in the creation and maintenance of a society based on values superior to that of any nation or any people in the world Not because of Republicans who want nothing but ever decreasing tax revenues and increased privatization of government to fleece those who are unfortunate. (Read those who do not own capital, i.e. the LABORER)

    Now tell me…

    was FDR a commie?

    Is social security a handout?

Should Ironbird keep crushing cardboard boxes behind Walgreens for the rest of his life? without insurance?

Because THAT is what the republicans want. It is their modus operandi. Crushing government services. Cutting medicare. Cutting social security. “Right to work” laws.

    Trump may be different.

But there is no reason to think that. He has talked the talk. Lots and lots of talk. Now he must walk the walk. Dude has never “worked” a day in his life. He has just collected rent with his clean soft little baby hands.

That guy nailed it. Exactly. Precisely. Exquisitely.

The Dem game plan ever since the first Clinton was to appeal to enough fringe groups to carry the vote against mainstream America. Why they went this way is beyond me. Either they felt they could not win with the “average American” or else they really are all in with the fringe groups so succinctly enumerated in the writer’s diatribe shown above.

Personally, I have seen and also believe the leaders of the Democratic party are vibing at the same frequency as the aforementioned fringe groups.
They really and truly are on board with 20 different gender identities, race as the root of every form of oppression and inequality, and believe personal skills and work have nothing to do with ones success. True liberalism and good old American effort and ingenuity are not “spoken” understood anymore in Democratic circles.

As we just witnessed, mainstream America does not hold those beliefs. At all.
The vast majority of America still has moral values they firmly believe. The vast majority of America is compassionate to those truly in need but has no tolerance for someone who exerts no effort to better themselves, but rather, simply sits with their hands out and says gimme gimme gimme, because I am persecuted in some form or another.

And I agree that as long as the party seeks to place blame somewhere else, it will continue its slide into irrelevance. Long may they and their erroneous thinking circle the drain!

Frog and Soros…time will tell but I think we will witness a Republican dominated government that is different this time around. Trump is more like and old school democrat in his social thinking than he is a traditional Republican.
I believe he is much smarter than many give him credit for and also that he is a master manipulator.

True liberalism is alive and well. How a true liberal could validate voting for Trump or any republican over Clinton simply is crazy. Clinton might eat babies… but Trump questioned the first black president’s citizenship, and makes ties in China, hires foreign workers, skips on taxes, skips paying contractors.

The democratic party is shit, but they cut deficits and put people to work. Democratic party has been shit for 20 years? Republicans have been shit for over 100. Eisenhower. Literally the only Republican who had respect for the common man. The only Republican who ever sweat outside of a racquetball court. Still sold the country to defense contractors.

“And, fact is that more Americans voted for Trump’s opponent”
No, fact is all candidates competed with an electoral college strategy and the raw results mean zero. If the winner were to be determined by popular vote, all candidate strategies would have been different and therefore yielded different results. The popular vote argument is worthless, as it is merely incidental.

“And, fact is that more Americans voted for Trump’s opponent”

No, fact is all candidates competed with an electoral college strategy

Come on. Both of the above are facts.

You may disagree over which should be more important– the popular or the electoral vote. But both of those 2 statements are facts.

More Americans did vote for Trump’s opponent. AND all candidates competed with an electoral college strategy. Both are correct.

Another fact is that electronic voting machine fraud, when and if it takes place, can not ever be detected, because the software is considered by law to be a trade secret. The public is not allowed to know what the machines are programmed to do. So if the software says to throw the election a certain way, we are prohibited by law from finding out that it says that.

No need to go back to 1929. Look at Reagan administration, Bush I, Bush II. Your lack of historical knowledge is astounding.

Don’t look at the parties even, look at the policies.

All unions are less powerful now. Reagan was anti-union. Air traffic controllers 13,000 fired in 1981.

    I quote…

Most important was Reagan’s appointment of three management representatives to the five-member National Labor Relations Board which oversees union representation elections and labor-management bargaining, They included NLRB Chairman Donald Dotson, who believed that “unionized labor relations have been the major contributors to the decline and failure of once-healthy industries” and have caused “destruction of individual freedom.”

Too tired to possibly explain anymore to the ignorant uneducated swine.

Thank God for graphs and charts.

I wonder if a lot of people here can agree on the fact that voting machines can be rigged. Some people may think that Trump actually won the popular vote. Others may think that Hillary actually would have won the electoral college vote, if the popular votes had been counted correctly. But either way, perhaps many people may be willing to admit the truth– that electronic voting machines can be rigged.

Progressive people are connected to fact checking organizations, because progressives tell the truth more often. So they are more interested in the truth and want more to support fact checking organizations. Right Wingers are interested in telling lies and are more likely to support news organizations that consistently tell lies.

    Frog, unmoderated your post.

Looks like I missed a real party in here.

    Soros,

No illusions here about Republicans and unions, which just goes to show how utterly abandoned the working class feels. Union household support of democrats hasn’t been this low since 1980, nor as high for a Republican since Reagan. This whole post is about how the left is fucking up in spades because leadership’s ideals and goals do not align with their base.

Unions are a double edged sword BTW. I come from a union family of several generations and recognize both the necessity for collective bargaining and protecting low income / desperate people who can’t afford to say no to employer demands – but there are limits. When you see variations of lifeguards in Newport Beach making a union negotiated $200K (extreme example) and pensioners who made 5 figures for most of their career sucking 6 figure retirements out of the system, it’s unsustainable and insolvency is a real possibility for overburdened pension systems that are banking on 7% / year returns and have to grapple with the ongoing onslaught of retiring baby boomers (and Millennials in 30 years). Also, when you cross into undue burden territory on employers, it discourages the use of domestic labor.

Workers need protections – but when you use the collective bargaining tool to exceed reasonable compensation and create inappropriate standards of living during good times, it tends to rub business owners and non-union “regular joes” the wrong way. These are people who are forced to scale back during hard times, unlike a negotiated-for union member.

As for the blame game; as we know, everything goes in cycles. Periods of loose lending standards, the repeal of laws originally intended to limit systemic risk, corruption, and failure to account for economic contraction when making long term commitments means that whoever is handed a hot economy will be blamed when the music stops, and whoever steps in at the bottom is a hero.

Bullshit. Democratic presidents have overseen most of the growth. Tepublicans have presided the worst stock market crashes and most recessions.

    Fact.

Most of the people here would have called Roosevelt a commie. Look at his policies. Look at the comments.

If union suppot for republicans is at a high last seen since Reagan… that is interesting. Reagan treated unions like shit.

Union support for republicans means shit. Unfortunately dudes who work with their hands work too hard and long to possibly make smart voting decisions.

Which is why the working class white man votes against his own interests. Usually brainwashed with BS religion or fear of minorities.

Like all the confederate soldiers who owned 0 slaves but died to protect the right to own slavery for the rich fuckers who did.

You guys are clueless. Republicans are the anti-labor party. Rightwing is anti labor everywhere. Destroying labor rights. Cutting benefits.

You cant pull some business cycle bullshit when the facts are there. The reformed broker post linked somwhere on here is undeniable. Fully republican controlled govt has fucked us everytime.

This time may be different. I’ll give you that. But don’t try and change the past. Chances are we will get fucked again.

My favorite fact is that the unions own the public sector racket.

So citizens are on the hook. Lol.

“Unfortunately dudes who work with their hands work too hard and long to possibly make smart voting decisions. Which is why the working class white man votes against his own interests.”

Blacks have been voting for their oppressors for 50 years. The DNC panders to minorities and then forgets about them until the next election – even after Bill Clinton decimated black families with his crime bill. Gotta bring ’em to heel, you know.

I disagree with Reformed Broker’s post. He’s a really smart guy, but his analysis doesn’t consider things like Clinton’s repeal of Glass Steagall, or the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act signed by Jimmy Carter, which led to the S&L scandal. Contraction naturally follows periods of excess – and when you’re growing economies via debt, where fuck-ups can crash the system, lending standards and oversight are crucial. The combination of the repeal of GS & Barney Frank calling any lender racist who didn’t issue “they’ve got a pulse” loans paved the way. The banks took it from there. Don’t get it twisted; all of this has been at the behest of the banks, and both Republicans and Democrats have been in on the scam for a looong time. Still, it wasn’t George Bush’s fault when 5-year ARM loans started to adjust and defaults spiked. It wasn’t his fault that shit paper was packaged into CDO’s.

Republicans didn’t cause the Great Depression, though Hoover’s fiscally conservative response (including smoot-hawley) contributed to it’s duration. Remember though, money didn’t grow on trees back then like it does now. The fiat monetary tools available now are sexy compared to the gold-backed US Dollar of a century ago. Also, if we’re giving Presidents credit for things, you have George Bush to thank for that shiny QE safety net, which arguably saved us from a depression *caused by the banks, which was facilitated by Democrats.*

It’s inappropriate to simply look at this issue in a vacuum – ignoring who’s responsible for critical links in the chain which led to credit-related shocks to the system.
