PURGE: Orwellian Twitter Goes Full 1984, Deletes Prominent Alt-Right Accounts

Brought to you by the generation that can’t hear negative things, Twitter announced yesterday that they had deployed measures to curb cyber-bullying after their platform’s free flow of information led to a mass awakening. For any bright eyed, helicopter parented, therapy dog owning millennial out there who might stumble on opposing views from outside their safe space, Twitter has supercharged the “Mute” option to allow users to block tweets based on keywords, phrases, and the content of a conversation.

Here’s Twitter’s opening salvo in operation Make America Sheep Again, in which they address the rampant cyber-bullying epidemic and let us know about their hateful conduct policy. Tragic. I guess there were just too many victims triggered by truth after learning about racist hate crimes that don’t fit the narrative.

24 Hours Later, Twitter is initiating a “major purge of prominent accounts associated with the alt-right,” says the Daily Caller.

One of the first and most prominent accounts caught up in the deletion is Richard Spencer, president and director of the National Policy Institute, an alt-right think tank focused on white identity and related policy issues.

Twitter removed Spencer’s verified account, formerly available at @RichardBSpencer, Tuesday evening.

“This is corporate Stalinism,” Richard Spencer told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Twitter is trying to airbrush the Alt Right out of existence. They’re clearly afraid. They will fail!”

Not only did Twitter kill Spencer’s personal account, but Twitter also suspended the National Policy Institute’s official account (@npiamerica) and its online magazine (@RadixJournal), in addition to a separate book publishing company run by Spencer called Washington Summit Publishers (@washsummit).

The ban took place the same day Spencer appeared on NPR and The Daily Show.

Between the supercharged mute button and the purge of accounts espousing opposing views, Peter Pan syndrome should be alive and well for some time. Good job @Jack Dorsey, you’re fighting the good fight for your masters, keeping everybody feeling nice and safe.

I feel your outrage.. but IBC does the same. Ask FLY how many people with opposing views he censors from his blog? Can’t pick and choose…

Big difference between a blog trying to keep the neighborhood clean from vagrants and a major avenue for news and information for the world.

    BIG difference.

Nah.. either you believe in free expression or you oppose it. Maybe your blog readers need one of those safe-space combat medals zero posted? Or maybe the sheepherder is afraid of a wolf in the pasture?

Trader, it’s about civil discourse. Assholes get warned and then have their privileges revoked. You’ve been posting here for a while, no?

Being ‘moderated’ by The Fly is not the end of the world. At least now when I release my comments into the void I don’t have to cringe waiting for uncivil responses. I doubt you can really find an egregious example of my assholery, though I am not perfect.

If assholery were the only criterion for banishment, how does one explain the abundance of commenters in The Fly’s that repeatedly revel in barely coherent personal attacks, gratuitous misogyny, etc. at every opportunity?

Assholery seems to be defined as “not agreeing with me” rather than not maintaining even a minimal standard of discourse.

Feel free to block my future posts. I really wouldn’t mind.

He says all of this WHILE POSTING ON IBANKCOIN. And to boot, he’s too stupid to figure out the irony.

If I wanted to, I could levy a sitewide ban, but I didn’t. I only restricted you from my blog because you annoyed me.

IBC is a blog intended for civil discussion of finance and occasionally politics.
Twtiter is an avenue branded as a free expression platform that only allows free expression for those it agrees with.

It therefore attracts millions in the name of free speech, and then proceeds to selectively censor people based upon an unknown criteria that’s not even transparent and appears politically partisan.

Same with Facebook having a proven liberal bias that only pretended to train people on “bias training” after it got caught.

Bill Maher warned the left that if they don’t cut this political correctness out they were going to lose. Now the left is doubling down after the election on tactics that ensure a low voter turnout. They are in meltdown mode, going full Orwellian believing if they silence the voice of conservatives that they won’t show up and vote or find another means of communication. The vindictive, bully tactics of the left aren’t going to destroy the right… it’s going to cause an implosion so large it destroys the left.

    Twitter is garbage.

That said… I literally created this account because I can’t post as Peaches. I just tried. Maybe it’s a glitch. Whatever.

    Never got a warning.

I just pointed out correctly that Trump was endorsed by the American Nazi party. It is a fact. Anti semitic members of the alt-right (is there a difference?) think there is a global Jewish conspiracy to take out the white man.

    No reason to lie.

Love the blog. Love the Fly. You made me a lot of money. I was simply pointing out that calling all liberals retarded hippies was akin to calling all Trump supporters Nazis. Just read the comments on Breitbart and Infowars, or here. Alt-right is white supremacy. Period.

How is that for a sweeping generalization. Sometimes the most simple explanation is the truth. (Stole that from an alt-right dipshit)

We all rely on the ignorant rabble to get our leaders elected, and a blog determined to tell the TRUTH, should, in fact, tell the Truth.

But this is no hallowed hall of free speech. Lets stop pretending. You simply cannot maintain the wanted level of decorum without shutting people up once in a while. Even if those people are 110% right.

Free speech is why we have BLM and KKK. Freedom is not free.

These guys are getting kicked off of Twitter because they are idiots. It would be very easy to make a point if there was one, without being offensive.

Being politically correct is not stupid, its called being civilized.

Nobody takes clowns seriously except other clowns.

    Bingo

Constructive criticism. I used to think this blog could take out Bloomberg. Maybe I was wrong. There is a lucrative market in selling news people want to read, namely about how Clinton is killing people left and right, or what disease she has, etc.

All I know is it seems theres a lot less people here who

The Koch brothers do not spend millions on trying to get rid of social security? and pushing to eliminate anything that might save our planet from the Chinese global warming hoax?

Soros / Peaches, not sure what to say about logging in as peaches but I don’t think you were banned / muted.

On the topic of institutionalized racism and first amendment rights, I imagine the KKK would show up for any GOP candidate.

Another race based hate group is La Raza “The Race” / MEChA, who run around calling for a race war to reclaim what used to be Mexico (California, etc.). Here’s the president of La Raza on Al Sharpton’s radio show urging Hispanics and Blacks to rise up and attack “common enemies” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX3qo92xcyI Organized racism at it’s finest, and broadcast through a mainstream outlet.

La Raza has been allowed to operate with more or less a super racist mandate for a really long time. One of the La Raza MALDEF attorneys in CA (Mario Obledo) is on record saying he thinks whites should go back to Europe.

The new black panthers are another hate group which emerged during the Reagan years, who call for death to Jews and Whites, but whose protests and rallies just don’t have the same headline appeal as the KKK for some reason. If this article from the Southern Poverty Law Center is true, they sound just as bad: https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/group/new-black-panther-party I think they held a rally or two when Obama was elected.

If you want to analyze the recent election-related phenomenon of KKK rallies, a group estimated by the Southern Poverty Law Center to contain 5,000 and 8,000 members out of 60 million people who voted for Trump, and imply or infer that it somehow reveals the racist tendencies of average Trump voter, I think that’s more than a bit of a stretch.

Should Trump condemn the KKK for exercising their first amendment right. or violence committed in his name? Oh wait, he did the other night on 60 minutes. He also denounced David Duke in 2000: https://twitter.com/America_1st_/status/787474762998034432

In stark contrast, I didn’t hear one word during Obama’s press conference the other day about the physically violent, racist, and well documented hate crimes against white Trump voters happening right now. Obama called for civility, which was nice, but a far cry from a condemnation. Can you imagine if a video of white thugs beating up an older black Obama voter in the middle of an intersection (before stealing his car) appeared after the 2008 election?

(Also note how I totally ignored your censorship comments. That was a diversion.)

Forums have moderators for a reason. Conversations go sideways, tempers flare, things get said. You should also know that there are a TON of people who pollute the board with the sole intention of disrupting conversation, not adding to it. I’m not talking divergent opinions, but straight up troublemaking that detracts from the site. I guess my point is that it’s hard to moderate sometimes without painting in broad brush strokes.

“Divergent opinion” is not the test for a ban here. “Being a dick about your divergent opinion” might be more accurate. Either way, this is a good conversation to have.

I don’t have a list of every racist group in America, there are a lot. I also did not say racism is unique to the right or left. I just pointed out how the Nazi party endorsed Trump. They don’t go about endorsing any republican candidate. They endorsed Trump. Duke also did and Trump pretended he had never heard of the man. Trump rode in a bunch of hate. That has nothing to do with whether he is a racist or not, but one can only assume what type of person Fred Trump who was arrested in Queens for what he was arrested for, was capable of raising.

Trump may not be a racist. It is even stupider to say all Trump supporters are racist. But to say that Trump, like every Republican in the past 20 years, used the racist and sexist redneck vote to his favor. It is so obvious, yet so under reported on this site. Its a stupid bias, and its a free country. I’m over it. Keep pumpin’ out that small block chevy v8 truth guys.

And I was banned. People get banned all the time here. Stop frontin

There are a lot of people on the left going “Welp, Nazis are for Trump -SEE!”

You are saying the site isn’t reporting on the racists who voted for Trump? I mean, is it really that big of a factor? I don’t think Fly posted anything about all of Obama’s support by the New Black Panters / La Raza / etc. during the 2008/2012 election – which would have been analogous.

Do you really think that some huge swath of racists and sexists are the only reason Trump won? Am I reporting on all the dead and illegal voters I could just as easily assume gave Hillary the popular vote? No. I think Hillary’s loss has to do with her policies, and all of the shady Clinton Foundation pay-for-play shit that came out. Even without the Wikileaks revelations, Hillary still wanted to let 500x more un-screenable refugees into the country due to the migrant crisis that SHE caused. I don’t think that’s as much racism as it is people who have seen or experienced the utter shithole France / Germany have become after Islamization. I have friends and family who have dealt with Syrian refugees in France, Turkey, and Germany, and I can very un-racistly tell you that they are an absolute scourge. Their kids make Gypsies look like saints, and they rove around in angry blood-thirsty packs, fucking with white Europeans. Did you know a bunch of them were just let off the hook for a gang rape because the cucked Europeans are THAT afraid to be called racists?

What I AM reporting on are acts of pure racially motivated physical violence from the “tolerant” left. The hypocrisy is stunning for the party of kumbaya and peace. Find me reports of rednecks pulling old black men out of their cars, beating them, and stealing the car, and I will gladly report it. If this were your run of the mill “kill whitey” stuff, it wouldn’t even be a headline.

I really think you should consider that Hillary lost on the merits of her policies, and the distrust formed after we found out she cheated in the debate and conspired to destroy Bernie. Sure, what you say about racists is true *to an extent* – but I can’t imagine racism and misogyny are even in the top 10 factors that got Trump elected. Tons of former Bernouts and even democrats turned out for Trump. The left just ran THAT bad of a candidate.

Speaking of Larry David’s doppelganger, Bernie should been the one to go up against Trump. The whole race became about shady establishment shill vs. outsider. Bernie didn’t have that problem.

As for bans, I think they are based on IP, not user name. I don’t show you as a banned user in my back-end dashboard, so take it up with Fly.

Hell, Forbes has even done a study on Alt Right and their inability to use facts in reporting. Several studies, done before and after Forbes’ found similar findings about their blatant misuse of facts. Alt right is a propaganda machine. Nothing more, nothing less.

FX, there are people on both sides who don’t use facts when making arguments. Maybe my definition of alt-right is incorrect, but I thought it was more or less younger conservatives like Milo, who typically uses fact based arguments.

Either way, misuse of facts should not condemn someone to censorship and deletion of accounts. People who spout bad information will naturally gravitate to an echo chamber of like minded individuals. Everyone else who sees through their bullshit will unfollow or take with a grain of salt.

Firstly, the twitter ban is total horseshit.

Second, I love this website, these hallowed halls were one of the only sites on the internet that I would visit regularly. Hell, I even enjoyed time as a ‘third-tier’ blogger here a few years ago. I have a ton of respect for you guys and your opinion on the markets.

With those caveats aside, I’m not sure if the tactic was deliberate, you are choosing to be willfully ignorant, or you really just do not realize, but what soros/peaches is talking about has significant merit.

The KKK, Stormfront, The Daily Stormer, Fash the Nation, etc, can brushed aside and dismissed as ‘fringe elements’ of the Alt-Right.

The following people require further investigation: Richard Spencer, Paul Ramsey, Jared Taylor…a few of the ‘founding fathers’ of the Alt-Right…Spencer even founded the website alternativeright.com (now Radix). These gentlemen are not ignorant, confederate flag waving, toothless inbreds on the fringe. They are highly intelligent and are at the heart of the alt-right. Go ahead and watch some of their material on the youtoobs.

Perhaps everyone here are familiar with the ideals held by these gentlemen, and choose to support those ideals, which you are free to do, but my head will not be in the sand on this.

I can get behind exposing and ending government corruption, overcoming debilitating political correctness, and not fighting idiotic and costly foreign wars.

When we start delving into the idea that race/culture as the sole determining factor behind the success or failure of a society…it’s a very slippery slope with what could be kindly considered a ‘dubious’ history.

You can tell me to go fuck myself, and hurl neanderthal insults at me (especially those who will jump to false assumptions about my political affiliation) and that’s fine. My sources are the very words that come out of those individuals mouths, not some untrustworthy leftist MSM source.

    @eff_safety_pins,

Unwillfully ignorant at worst. The phrase “Alt-Right” has been casually tossed at a whole spectrum of conservatives with varying opinions. Also, it’s way more than just Spencer’s twitter account. He was just the most prominent recent example. Twitter is a corporation not a democracy, which is fine. My problem lies with their overt and selective banishment of people with divergent opinions from their own, while allowing massive amounts of anti-white / anti-Trump supporter hate speech to persist.
