Mark Zuckerberg and his band of misfits want so badly to canvas the entirety of Africa with free internet so they can turn around and sell advertising campaigns to internet schemers peddling usurious microloans.
But their benevolent plan took a giant leap backwards early Thursday morning when the SpaceX rocket carrying Amos-6 exploded, effectively destroying both the rocket and the satellite in the process. Wired has the details:
The Amos-6 was built by Israeli communications firm Spacecom Ltd. and was owned and operated by Eutelsat from France. Facebook had purchased time on the satellite in order to beam Internet to parts of sub-Saharan Africa that the social media company is hoping to expand access to.
Facebook did not respond to a request for comment on what this setback will mean for its expansion program—of which the Amos-6 was a key part.
It seems like a good cause. Free internet for the third world, hooray! And coming from a social media company whose billionaire CEO vowed to give away 99% of his Facebook stock, it seems righteous.
But investors know this is all a ploy to accelerate globalization and capture a much, much larger audience who will be subsequently inundated with advertisements.
That’s what it’s all about. Interent erases the margins of anything retailed, knocks those pesky middle class folk in first world nations down a peg or two while modestly improving life in the shanty towns of Nigeria, and enriches the select few massive corporations who deploy these campaigns.
Facebook shares are unaffected by the news. Everyone knows their conquest will continue. FB stock is a touch below all-time highs. Fuck yeah!

Awesome job Sir. A beacon of sanity in a world of whores. Fuck FaceFuck. And fuck that scumbag from a bad railroad scam from the late 1800’s. Hear hear.
FB is too late. China already owns sub-Saharan Africa.
Have you been there? You are a cunt. That is the ultimate lefty insult. The cannery is up your snatch. You know it. We all know it. Enough from you haters.
I’ve heard much about these draconian Chinese work-camps in Africa. Not good!
