Yearly Archives: 2017

Core Thesis for 2017: Long Hollywood

By all accounts, 2017 is expected to be a record smashing year at the box office for Hollywood. From Pirates of the Caribbean to Star Wars Episode 8 to Cars 3, there are a slew of high grossing films slated to come out this year — which should help the share prices of movie theatre stocks.

First thing this morning, I bought both $IMAX and $RGC, who are also part of my GARP index of 15 high growth stocks.

Here are some of the highly anticipated films for 2017.

Personally, I am most looking forward to Dunkirk, which was the most important moment in World War 2. I’ve read about the evacuation at Dunkirk from numerous sources and have seen it featured in several films over the years, but nothing quite captured the significance of the event — evacuating the core of the British forces as more than a million Nazis closed in on them. Had the British been trapped there and proved unable to evacuate, the war would’ve been over in weeks and Germany would’ve conquered all of Europe.

Here’s the trailer.

As for my investments in IMAX and RGC: I expect them to do very well in 2017 and will not trade them, unless they pop sharply to the upside on takeover news or rumors.

Natural Gas Has Been Destroyed; Revelers Rejoice and Lament Over the Results

Whatever move natural gassers enjoyed over the past week, eagerly awaiting the bitter cold to finally strike America and crack the pipes of millions who were ill prepared for the cold, has been revoked this morning — thanks to warmer than expected climes.

The price of natty is lower by 7.5% — in clownish trade.

As a result, both $DGAZ and $UGAZ are trending on Stocktwits this morning — one board filled with people rejoicing over the demise of natural gas, the other lamenting the collapse — contemplating mass suicide.

The DGAZ board.

And the sad saps over on the UGAZ board.

Don’t be surprised when your arms get blown off after playing with dynamite sticks at a BBQ.

Larry Summers Says Markets Aren’t Recognizing Risks of Trump; Equates Economic Plan to Creationism

Did Larry Summers just take a shot at Trump and people who believe in God, all in one fell swoop? I’m assuming when he labeled Trump’s economic teams plans as ‘well beyond voodoo economics’ and equal to ‘creationism’ he meant it in the nicest of ways for all of you bible toting jackasses out there.

Summers isn’t a fan of Trump’s economic policies, whatsoever. He doesn’t give a shit about $2t in overseas cash being repatriated over — because most of that money will be used to execute reckless buybacks and drunken mergers and big old stupid dividend hikes.

Why would Wall Street like that?

“This is probably the largest transition ideologically and in terms of substantive policy that we’ve seen in the U.S. in the last three quarters of a century,” Summers told Tom Keene in a Bloomberg Television interview Tuesday. “Those kinds of transitions have to be — given the central role of the US in the global system — matters of enormous uncertainty. I don’t think that’s fully recognized by markets.”

Summers was also critical of a paper jointly written by economist Peter Navarro, who will lead a newly formed White House National Trade Council, and Commerce Department head Wilbur Ross.

“The Navarro-Ross paper is well beyond voodoo economics,” Summers said of the September report on Trump’s growth plans. “The logic of it, the arguments made, are so far out of the mainstream of any kind of responsible economic thinking that they are the economic equivalent of creationism.”

“The vast majority of the companies who have large overseas cash also have substantial amounts of domestic cash,” he said. “The reality is that cash that is brought home will be used to pay dividends, to buy back shares, to engage in mergers and acquisitions, to rearrange the financial chessboard, not to invest in large amounts of new capital. It is a chimera to suppose that there will be large increases in capital investment as a consequence of that repatriation.”

Larry of Harvard has spoken. As you were. Yes.

Russia’s MICEX is Hacking its Way Higher; Crude Surges

Russia’s ruble is ripping v the dollar, higher by 1.1%. Other than that, the dollar is crushing to the upside v all major currencies, especially the Turkish lira — who nobody really gives a shit about.

Most importantly, the dollar is higher by 0.6% v the euro.

img_5977

Vladimir Putin’s main source of income, crude oil, is fucking exploding this morning — now rocking above $55. Get ready to pay up at the pump America.
img_5976

National borrowing costs are through the roof this morning. This all translates to higher auto loan, student and mortgage yields — apparently very boolish developments indeed.

img_5978

And, finally, Mother Russia is leading all major markets this morning, higher by 2.3% — as the ascendency of Putin’s best friend, DJ Trump, to the presidency looms.

BEARS ARE ABOUT TO GET LIT UP TO START THE NEW YEAR

Are natural gas futures down by 7.4% right now? If so, I sure do hope that’ll translate to cheaper prices for my monthly utility bill.

The Asians are rallying hard tonight, off HIBOR soaring to over 10%. Literally, no one gives a shit about SHIBOR/HIBOR credit issues or traps. It’s all about markets going higher for 2017 — no matter the news, the math, or any consequences. For most of 2016, I hemmed and hawed, hid in closets from the recession boogie man who never came. Trump got elected and now AMERICA IS GREAT AGAIN.

Heading into tomorrow’s trade, I am 100% long $UEC, like a craven lunatic. I will be depositing 4x my account value into my brokerage account for the explicit purposes of investing to win. Very soon you will soon discover the madness of “The Fly”, a mythical creature who laid dormant for over a year — surveying the landscape — preparing for war.

The Dow futures are higher by 128 now. All those in front of the Dow train will soon be flattened out like manholes — tossed into junkyards and recycled into urinals for the world to piss on.

Happy 2017. See you in the morning.

High Level Retards at the Washington Post Now Declare There Wasn’t a Hack Attack at Vermont Utility

The agitprop at the Washington Post has fallen on its head again — after reports that a Vermont utility had NOT been accessed by Russian hackers — which was contrary to their initial fake news reporting.

Reporters from the living room of Jeff Bezos are now saying that the Vermont utility wasn’t hacked into by malicious Russian agents, but, instead, some fuckhead checked his Yahoo mail account and received some malware for it. Not joking.

Source: Jeff Bezos’ living Room

As federal officials investigate suspicious Internet activity found last week on a Vermont utility computer, they are finding evidence that the incident is not linked to any Russian government effort to target or hack the utility, according to experts and officials close to the investigation.

An employee at Burlington Electric Department was checking his Yahoo email account Friday and triggered an alert indicating that his computer had connected to a suspicious IP address associated by authorities with the Russian hacking operation that infiltrated the Democratic Party. Officials told the company that traffic with this particular address is found elsewhere in the country and is not unique to Burlington Electric, suggesting the company wasn’t being targeted by the Russians. Indeed, officials say it is possible that the traffic is benign, since this particular IP address is not always connected to malicious activity.

The investigation by officials began Friday, when the Vermont utility reported its alert to federal authorities, some of whom told The Washington Post that code associated with the Russian hackers had been discovered within the system of an unnamed Vermont utility. On Friday evening, The Post published its report, and Burlington Electric released a statement identifying itself as the utility in question and saying the firm had “detected the malware” in a single laptop. The company said in its statement that the laptop was not connected to its grid systems.

The Post initially reported incorrectly that the country’s electric grid had been penetrated through a Vermont utility. After Burlington Electric released its statement saying that the potentially compromised laptop had not been connected to the grid, The Post immediately corrected its article and later added an editor’s note explaining the change.

U.S. officials are continuing to investigate the laptop. In the course of their investigation, though, they have found on the device a package of software tools commonly used by online criminals to deliver malware. The package, known as Neutrino, does not appear to be connected with Grizzly Steppe, which U.S. officials have identified as the Russian hacking operation. The FBI, which declined to comment, is continuing to investigate how the malware got onto the laptop.

False alarm folks. As you were. The Washington Post have solved the crime that was never actually committed. But it did sell a few newspapers and drove some web traffic — all of which was done under fraudulent pretext.

CNN Unnamed Official: Hackers Used Slavic Keyboard; Assange Says Bullshit, It Wasn’t Russia

The shillers at CNN keep shilling. Today they’re out with unnamed sources saying ‘digital footprints’ were left — such as cyrillic aka slavic keyboards used in the hack attacks. I am not shitting you.

Souce: CNN

One official told CNN the administration has traced the hack to the specific keyboards — which featured Cyrillic characters — that were used to construct the malware code, adding that the equipment leaves “digital fingerprints” and, in the case of the recent hacks, those prints point to the Russian government.

But, despite an initial public assessment by the US intelligence community in October that Russia was behind the intrusions, Trump and his staff continue to voice doubts.

“The idea that we’re jumping to conclusions before we have a final report is, frankly, irresponsible,” Trump’s incoming press secretary, Sean Spicer, told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota Monday.

No word on how the use of a Russian keyboard equates to Putin himself directing a hack attack on John Podesta’s email box. But CNN will continue to tell you that’s exactly what happened.

In other news, the actual person who leaked the actual emails says IT WASN’T RUSSIA, yet CNN doesn’t bother to type up a story about it.

Trumps Fires Another Salvo at China Over N. Korean Nuclear Missile Program

All is well on the street of Wall. Dow futures are higher by 65, the NASDAQ +19, and Trump is firing tweets deriding China for all the world to see — designed to shame them. Word has it that the government of China now enjoys to be shamed in public by Trump. They view any publicity as good publicity for their bedraggled wares produced in slave camps.

In short, N. Korea will never get ICBMs and China is ravaging us in trade, but not helping us stop N. Korea from acquiring missile technology that will one day wipe out Portland and San Francisco.

Gamblers Gone Mad: Macau Revenues +8% for December

Macau is back, according to recent reports. For the fifth consecutive month, gross gaming in Macau rose by 8% to $2.48b for December — according to Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. Revenues had risen by 14.4% in November.

For the year, however, sales declined by 3.5% — following an astonishing 34.3% drop in 2015.

Analysts are now expecting a 7% lift in revenues for 2017.

“We continue to believe that while the market is stabilizing, we won’t see a v-shaped recovery like we did in 2010 and 2013,” Wells Fargo Securities’ Cameron McKnight wrote in a note before the release. The analyst cited macroeconomic and policy as among the risks facing Macau in the near term, along with new supply of casinos being planned by operators.

Casio stocks have risen sharply in recent months, pricing in an eventual rebound in Macau. Shares of $LVS are higher by 28% over the past year, followed by $WYNN +27% and $MGM +27%.
