Core Thesis for 2017: Long Hollywood

By all accounts, 2017 is expected to be a record smashing year at the box office for Hollywood. From Pirates of the Caribbean to Star Wars Episode 8 to Cars 3, there are a slew of high grossing films slated to come out this year — which should help the share prices of movie theatre stocks.

First thing this morning, I bought both $IMAX and $RGC, who are also part of my GARP index of 15 high growth stocks.

Here are some of the highly anticipated films for 2017.

Personally, I am most looking forward to Dunkirk, which was the most important moment in World War 2. I’ve read about the evacuation at Dunkirk from numerous sources and have seen it featured in several films over the years, but nothing quite captured the significance of the event — evacuating the core of the British forces as more than a million Nazis closed in on them. Had the British been trapped there and proved unable to evacuate, the war would’ve been over in weeks and Germany would’ve conquered all of Europe.

Here’s the trailer.

As for my investments in IMAX and RGC: I expect them to do very well in 2017 and will not trade them, unless they pop sharply to the upside on takeover news or rumors.

I do pirate myself. But nothing beats the theatre experience if you can make it.

Raspberry Pi 3 Kodi with Exodus.. is pretty much the media box to own in 2017. Dang thing is a theater box you can build for cheap.

It does work on Windows as well but I’ve found the Raspberry version to actually work better for the sole purpose of a media box.

Now this is the Fly I remember from my youth. Posts that lop off the dicks of vagabonds and what not. All-in trades from way – the fuck – out there. Top notch pics.

Just missing the Rick Ross videos.

ha just about half of that list is Disney. Justice League and the whole DCEU isnt a tent pole is a crime scene. the only one the could be decent is wonderwoman. unless your looking at a specialty reit that captures a % of sales, toys, video game publishers, other license holders. just my thoughts.

Every year, everyone (including myself) says how such and such a movie sucked or the movies out of Hollywood are worse and worse. Yet every year, they break records locally and globally.

We’re at the point in history where watching stuff is at a peak! It’s not like we have to go outside and play. Or work. Or grow our own food. People drink, shop online, eat and watch stuff. Period. If you took that away (minus food) you’d literally have riots.

So I expect most of these movies to suck. But I also expect butts in seats or pirated or whatever and the records will continue to shatter as there are more people on Earth daily and the number of ways for people to watch increase.

Wall-E isn’t too far off at least in theory.

Yeah, Wall-E, now that was a very creative movie.

You are right that we are in the Age of Distraction and Entertainment. Overwhelmed by your life and can’t cope? Join the very large club. Here are your movies to escape into. Not very good movies, but more entertaining by far than the difficult realities that you have yet not found a way to cope with.

One telltale sign of people being overwhelmed and unable to cope, is that people search under every rock, looking for someone who seems to be even more vulnerable and upset than they are. If they are very anxious or upset or angry, then it may take a long time to find someone who seems to feel worse. When they find the person, then they make fun of them and call them a snowflake– even if they’re 6 years old.

It’s the currently popular game in American culture, called “You’re the snowflake, not me.”
