I’ve noticed emotions are running high these days, especially amongst the cabin class historians. Here on iBC, you like to throw meatloaf at one another, supporting one ideology over another. Case in point: many of you left of center readers are appalled by the words of Senator Gint. You disagree with his politics and extrapolate a whole bunch of shit from that, most of which is entirely untrue. I know Mr. Cement Head and he is one of the nicest, most honest, people you will ever make acquaintance.
Back in the early Bush days, I was a political ideologue too, fervently against all who thought differently from me. One day, while expressing my view points, alienating good friends of mine in pointless arguments, it dawned on me that none of my debating was making me money. As a matter of fact, my fervent support for “freedom ketchup” was holding me back from making money in Heinz, if you get my drift.
Although sometimes my ideologies surface when emotions are high, the truth is I really couldn’t give a fuck about politics. It is the sandbox of retards and men who opt to waste their lives being groupies for dishonest people.
All joking aside, let’s get back to sharing some money making ideas, and tune out the noise. It will never make you any money and you will regret wasting such valuable time, down the road. At the end of the day, we all want to eat, drink and have a few laughs, no?
Into the debt ceiling vote, I remain steadfast, 60% long, 40% cash. Should we dip to 11,800, I will add to positions. For the most part, despite the sell off, I am pleased with today’s action, for my stocks.
At the present, my top two holdings are WNR and DECK.

we all just need someone to hate.politicians are fabulously the targets to just fill that void in our stomachs is all.
Divide and conquer, precisely.
sorry doctor.it’s a divide and bendover
Fly, was your home ever accosted by the ninja? Just wondering.
nice post, senor T
The Fly….ever consider going the route of Facebook and dropping the “the”.
Just FLY….no “the” in front.
Of course Mr., Sir, Space Alien, etc.. would still be in order.

Recent IPOs UAN and GNC performing well and worth a look.
also cles..
Don’t you mean CJES?
This is actually the beginning of the end of this bull market. We have a year until the major crash. This is 2007 all over again. I am looking to get short and remain short after the pop from the debt ceiling.
I will agree with you only AFTER it happens. Until then, I will leave the crystal ball predictions to you, good sir.
i hope it dont dat way, but for us to be back at the highs w/less goin on is a no brainer.
any thoughts on eog..
Good assets, not a lot of sexy “short-term” stuff that I’m aware of.
Thanks for the nice words, Monsieur.
Sometimes, I can be too acerbic.
_________
Yes, but it would not be as much fun without the acerbic part. You should see/hear me when I start shouting and cursing at the TeeVee. Now that’s acerbic.
Point well taken. Banking coin is the name of the game.
Very true, Fly. It’s Divide and Conquer. The 2 parties are both controlled by the same people.
Our government works on a strict ROI model. The Special Interest Groups who finance campaigns “invest” money in politicians, and then they get an ROI just ike if they had bought GOOG at its IPO. Voters, consumers, and taxpayers are all routinely sacrificed to the campaign financiers.
good post, but i think the point was how to make money anyway?
Posters don’t seem to have very many ideas on this lately.
Buy a bunch of precious metals, then go enjoy your life.
Jake recently commented that it is more productive to focus on improving yourself, instead of wasting energy responding to the noise others are making. That thought stuck with me and I think it is a good one.
LOL, it was indeed a true and good observation– even though he did make it while participating in an ideological meatloaf throwing battle himself.
But from his enlightening blog posts and charts, I can see that he does follow that advice on the whole– just not at the moment he was offering the advice.
Truer words have not been said…
Politics is a game of fools.. mindless, power hungry simians slinging mud and dung patties at one another whilst attempting to appease their sycophantic ideologue base.
But it does provide for good entertainment..
It’s the epitome of Bernaysian manipulation.
ther is a storm just outside the lesser antilles, this is nothing so far, but the water is warn and congenial to hurrcanes, not sayin this will turn into one, but this season should be interesting , theres always a bump in oil/nat gas when they get close, i play before and sell into this. anybody else?
I think political bashing of one side is an excuse for people to blame someone other than themselves.
People feel more powerful when they think they know whose fault something is, and it isn’t them.
And indeed we are not responsible for everything around us, just part of it. All of us are likely guilty of voting for candidates who are financed by Special Interest Groups, and thus digging our own economic and political graves.
blame my self for working and paying taxes and never living beyond my means? wtf. only the solicitations of platnum cards, always refused, has been a contention of mine throughout my whole life…………..american express………dont leave home without it……..member since1983…….
It’s always a drag when political discussion devolves into less than rational thought. As a progressive Appalachian hillbilly who enjoyed listening to William F. Buckley on Firing Line, I think civil dialogue in the public commons is critical to our civilization. I love guns and grits as much as gouda and Goya, we live in a complex world. Check out the recent Lee Atwater and Bill Hicks documentaries on Netflix in which important political themes are handled with grace.
Senator Cement Head is an honorable man .. a rarity these days.
Fly, can we get a 3rd thumb? One that says: Partly agree, partly disagree?
Speaking of the markets, I wonder if what’s happening in Italy, and the credit market result of that, may be more important to the markets than the debt deal or lack thereof.
You know you’re winning when both your long (XIV) and short (TZA) are up.
ya know what last night i stated i was gonna sell this rally, but didnt think to get short, congrats to u!
i hate protesters, i just dont know how to express it.
I like ALTR here on back on continued wireless expansion and the company increasing revenue guidance for Q3 up 2-6% versus XLNX (main competitor) guiding lower. Currently hugging the 200-day. Starter position eminent.
where do u see entry? 38?
Agree totaly with you regarding ALTR. Bought in at $40 with T1 @ £45.
Good support arround this area, so dont think we’ll hit £38 again anytime soon; £39.50 would be a bargain.
I started a position around $40.50.
I thought Jake was on point with most of his comments. But you’re right, let’s get back to making money.
The debate helps make money. Considering the different positions helps in aiming the time machine.
Treasury inflation bonds (TIPS) are taking off, I’d thought commodity stocks would be acting better off this
I’m on sale for 50% off!
50% off hasbro,,,,they creamated michal jackson and put him in some etch-a-skechs, so
kids can play w/him safely
LOL!

Politics. It is the sandbox of retards and men who opt to waste their lives being groupies for dishonest people.
Great line Fly, classic!!
There is long term strategy and short term tactics.
The last week has marked a sea change in US govt. policy and it is important to understand the implications for investors. The middle class US consumer, responsible for 70% of US economic activity and by extension a huge part of world economic activity, has been thrown under the bus in this last round of negotiations.
I tend to be a long term investor with really long investment horizons and I am trying to understand how I should adjust my investment mix, so this exposure of the US political currents has been beneficial for me.
Please to explain how the benighted middle class (Whatever that is) was “thrown under the bus?”
Were their taxes raised?
_______
The wealthy elite/corporate lobbying has generated so many tax breaks for themselves that the tax burden has fallen disproportionally on the middle class.
The negotiating during the last week has not changed this.
And now that emphasis on cutting spending will result in a large number of jobs lost, also mainly among the middle class.
So the main engine of your economic activity, namely the middle class, has been thrown under the bus.
Why do you call yourself Raise taxes, Cut spending? Raising taxes is impossible. Google Grover Norquist, who controls a huge number of Congress folks, and has more power than the president,–if you don’t know why raising taxes is impossible.
Are you must be one of those people who think the politicians make the government’s decisions? Au contraire, Mon Frere.
Whoops– Should have deleted the word “Are” in 2nd paragraph there.
