Saturday Cinema with Le Fly: Passion of the Christ

As a church going atheist, I found this movie to be over the top, almost incendiary.

When this film was released in 2004, the homosexual Hollywood elite went apeshit and boycotted it. That was perfectly all right with Mel “fuck jews” Gibson, as he financed it himself and banked so much coin on this shit, he retired from Hollywood with two middle fingers in the air.

I believe he netted $300 million on this film.

The contents of the movie are insane and will make you pissed off at all of Jesus’ enemies, which is probably why Jews really didn’t want this movie to be seen.

In a politically correct world, this movie was and still is toxic for mass consumption. It bordered on torture porn and was generally a waste of time.

Nevertheless, I am certain religious folks will enjoy the story and come out the other end of this movie even more fanatical than when they started.

The movie is most impressive for its use of Aramaic, Hebrew, and Latin dialogue.
Along with an appearance by Satan, an authentic depiction of Barabbas, Judas, and Pontius Pilate, the film is likely the most authentic depiction of biblical characters ever made.

Bernie supporters and Trump supporters actually have a lot in common. If they ever figure that our and unite for common goals, then look out Big Money in Politics people.

I know that you believe socialism is bad. But it isn’t. Socialism is not the same as Communism. And the policies Bernie is for are not even pure socialism, but a combination of socialism and capitalism. Which we already have anyway e.g. we have social security and medicare programs.

We have had a combination of socialism and capitalism for a long time now. Bernie just wants to go a little further toward the socialism end of things.

Moosh and Ironbird, I know that what you two say is what the Right Wing “news sources”– actually propaganda sources, say. If you were interested in finding a more objective and accurate view of Bernie, you would look for it in non-Right Wing publications. So you probably are not interested.

I am not going to type it all out here. Below is one article written by one of the few great investigative journalists left in the business. It is about why so many young people find Sanders attractive as compared to Clinton. But it does explain Sanders’ appeal. The second one is about Trump and quite interesting.

        http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/why-young-people-are-right-about-hillary-clinton-20160325?page=3

        http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/how-america-made-donald-trump-unstoppable-20160224?page=13

Besides Sanders not being a neocon, and not wanting to get us into one unnecessary bloody expensive war after another, my favorite thing about him is that he wants free college education for all, as some other advanced nations have. Propaganda is most effective when people are ignorant. Better education could change all that.

Almost all of our news is Right Wing propaganda nowadays. And I can’t stop anyone from believing that it’s true. If you are totally immersed in Kool Aid, then it’s very hard not to take it in. So maybe I will give up now and turn my attention to other matters.

Tough to watch, but like The Markets, sometimes there is no way to sugarcoat REALITY.
Jesus gives you FREE WILL. There are only two differences between Man and any common animal (we share lungs, eyes, noses, blood, etc.) They are:
    1. The ability to THINK and
    2. The ability to CHOOSE.

Fly, as a pragmatic, statistical, betting, man your prescience will force you to recognize this reality:
    Read Pascal’s Wager. In short:
Thus, suppose we have bet for the existence of God: “Let us estimate these two cases: if you win, you win everything, if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager then it is without hesitation“.

    Peace.

Does Pascal say we need to also believe in and practice Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and every other religion in the whole world, just in case any of those might be true also, just so we don’t miss out on whatever their rewards for believing are also?

If so, there sure are a great number of religions you would have to believe in.

Is it even possible to believe in all the large and medium sized religions listed here, that have millions of followers?

        Axisoflogos,
I really like Ramsden’s humor and I like the whole Ravi Zacharias team from Oxford University: Ravi, Ramsden, and Amy Orr-Ewing. Also, I enjoyed Tim Keller’s apologetics book “The Reason for God.” I also suspect Lee Strobel might be good, especially regarding science.

Let me know if you have any recommendations. I would love to hear them.

Yes, if you are Christian, the movie will make you pissed off at all of Jesus’ enemies. I think it is sad really. Christianity is said to be a religion of compassion and peace– 2 things the world needs a lot more of. To make a movie about Christianity that seems calculated to make people get pissed off at and hate others, seems perverse to me. But then religious organizations, and their effects, are not necessarily what their believers think or say they are.

Jesus himself said “By their fruits you will know them”– something that is true of everyone, regardless of what their religion is, and regardless of whether they belong to a religion.

Christians are often very flawed people, often more flawed than non-believers and lots of bad things have been done in its name, possibly, including this Passion movie, which, ironically was used to disparage jews, when Jesus was in fact Jewish. Very humbling.

“In the sense of your knowledge of the truth-teaching, the teaching of the truth, the teaching of the spirit, the teaching of the life, create for yourselves a large garden with vegetables, plants, trees and shrubs which are full of the fruits of wisdom and love, peace, freedom and consonance (harmony); make sure that no weak offspring arise from the seeds, but that love and knowledge and wisdom multiply in you; do not allow any fiery whirlwind to blow through your garden of your love and of knowledge as well as of wisdom, so that everything which you have arduously acquired through your learning will not be scorched; take heed and follow the recommendation so that you do not fall back into unknowledgeness.”

God bless America! I think it’s selfish to think there is no higher power than our selves. What to call said power is up to the each individual.

To me, selfish is not the question. Accurate is the question. Is there or not? To reflect on whether there is something beyond oneself, one has to reflect. And one has to be capable of admitting it to oneself, if at first one does not know the answer. Mainstream American culture goes against this process, but many people find a way to do it. I do. I find various methods of meditation to be helpful. People have faced this question for thousands of years. Many books have been written on it e.g. for Westerners,The Wisdom of Insecurity by Alan Watts, written in 1951, is still as relevant today as the day it was written– maybe moreso.

Easter, like the entire Christian religion and all others since the dawn of time, is merely a story created by humans in an attempt to explain the cycles of the seasons and the stars.

I find it extremely amusing that a comment made above tells pagans to repent, when in fact the Christian religion came after paganism and simply adopted the exact same festivals as their own, on exactly the same dates, which again merely attempts to explain the reasons why we have seasons. Enjoy your zombie Jesus holiday children.

Well, each to their own beliefs. BTW, the most interesting theme on this theme that I have read on this subject is

The Jesus Mysteries: Was the “Original Jesus” a Pagan God?

(Spoiler alert: The authors think the answer is Yes and find historical evidence to support their view.)

      http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Mysteries-Was-Original-Pagan/dp/0609807986/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1459104684&sr=1-1&keywords=The+Jesus+Mysteries

We each have the right to our own beliefs, and it’s good if we respect others’ rights to their own too.

Inescapably, certain beliefs we may have do mean, if true, that others’ beliefs are very wrong. But that’s for them to decide.

here’s another version for ya – actually, Jesus (real name Jmmanuel which means ‘he of godly wisdom’/’he of knowledge of the gods’) was born of the earth-woman Mary and the so-called angel Gabriel, however, Gabriel was in reality a human being from another planet whose culture was far advanced technologically as well as spiritually and who was given the task to impregnate Mary for the purpose of bringing forth the next earth-teacher of spiritual matters, i.e. prophet who was to instruct the earth human being in matters pertaining to that power, i.e. the spirit, that underlies all life, all BEING, all non-BEING, the universe and beyond. And this prophet knew of all this because he had gone through the necessary 40-60 million years of cycles of physical birth, life & death, i.e. reincarnating always as different personalities. After so many milllions of years of accumulating the necessary love, wisdom, knowledge; reincarnating into a material human body is no longer necessary in order to learn and so this spirit evolved into pure spirit levels and its self-chosen task was to come back as a human being to teach the laws of the spirit it had accumulated to the human beings of the universe who were not so far along in their evolutionary path.

        Good luck! 😛

I find it far more important to try and do things and create things which will make the world a better place for all life on this planet when I am long gone. To me this is the meaning of “something bigger than myself”. I honestly have no ill will towards anyone of virtue who believes in any religions, and wish them nothing but the best in their endeavors.
