Open Forum: What is Your Very Best Idea?

I am going to let this post marinate for a day or so; therefore, I expect some reader participation. After banning over 1,300 readers from accessing iBankCoin, coupled with Twitter, PPT and 12631 active forums, this blog has become an absolute disgrace, completely unbefitting of a man, such as myself. I’ve done blown up this place to smithereens.

My top pick is to be short of AG in bitcoin terms.

Yep, blog commenst suck lately, inluding mine.
I have closed my doom and have covered my gloom.
Best idea has been shorting UVXY and TVIX, for not very mature investors…
and for mature is my CP mutli year hold, because you cannot kill the Bill, but seriously my cost basis is so small it makes me want to cry 🙂 why didn’t I put all my money in it.

To be fair.. it’s hard to come up wiht the really good comments and debates when the market was tanking and we’d get near Oversold. Those were great comments and emotional times.

CBB. Market hates that they are laying fiber and not paying a dividend. I like fiber. People love Google Fiber and the demand is there. More customers, more growth.

They have an asset not reflected on their books that is worth more than the entire damn company.

I don’t know when it will happen, but this stock will double.

At the moment, expecting the market to selloff – $BXG. Because there’s an all cash offer for the shares so it will be impervious to market volatility, and I think it’s worth more if the deal falls through.

Fairly risky due to the ridiculously high short interest, but I think QCOR could run 45% from here. Due to a huge selloff from a reimbursement scare last year, the stock is currently undervalued, considering it is smashing earnings. Balance sheet is solid too. I think the shorts are stuck here, and they trying as hard as possible to get out without losing any more coin.

Take on some bitcoin wealth, and then invest in their largest miners.

If you thought long physical miners was cool back in 2009-2010, then you’ll love being long bitcoin miners.

These mines are much like the early days of California, where it’s okay to hire assassins and such to ensure continued mining operations.

I strongly recommend you purchase said bitcoins on a credit card to really get your levered juices going.

If an unregulated stock market, in a decentralized currency, offering mining stocks you can invest in, doesn’t get you excited, you don’t have a speculative bone in your body.

Long LNG is great but i wouldn’t chase it at this point. Wait for a decent dip. And don’t neglect CQP, it high div paying little cousin, although again only on dips. All that nat gas deriv plays if you are in for the long hall. Esp the pipelines but they are all very rich right now, and it is the end of March of course. Love PWR on any nice dip. I also almost bought back into one of my faves, CLMT, on their umptheenth small secondary offering but didn’t quite catch it. Think the chance will come next week but I am not chasing anything at this point going into April. Tech side I like EMC at these levels. Still like PALL on supply concerns and R/SA OPEC-like manuever plans. And SWC as the only plat/pall dealer in America; PAL only on huge swings down. I like VXX at this level, but I play it against the XIV and would only recommend to those who have studied the inner workings of these flawed ETFs. Mr. P can speak as to that. But at this point in the year and w Europe still in shambles, I am taking profits. Sold all of my VZ and T. Sold half of my Ebay on the upgrade last week. Sold all my BX last week, but will reup at soem point. Sold my QCOM again today. Sold half my SDRL (as no 4th q div as they paid 2 last q to avoid the 5% increase). Took profits in NOV and OII although i still like the drillers and energy and will reup soon. I like CAT again but just nibbled. I am basically now in daytrader (intraday) and divy capture mode until October or so. And resistence playing (first day only) select IPOs like AVIV and PF. Although will nibble at emeging markets – prolly jsut ETFs like DVYE and EMLC. And Latin and S America when the opp presents itself.

My pick of the year for my personal portfolio is RTRX. Founded by a former hedge fund guy Martin Shkreli, who was featured recently in Forbes 30 under 30. Their pipeline consists of a drug for Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis and another for Pantothenate Kinase Associated Neurodegeneration. Both of these are Orphan diseases with limited or no treatment options, and in the case of PKAN is a fatal disease that afflicts children. The company has a 60 million dollar market cap that has doubled since Jan 2013. A trial for the FSGS drug is due to start in 1 half 2013 and produce data by end of Q1 2014. FDA has indicated to the company that a successful trial would potentially be enough data for approval in this disorder. 50,000 people have FSGS, so there is a lot of upside. Very low float trades on low volume for now. This is pinless hand-grenade action at its finest.

REGI – largest independent biodiesel producer/blender. 7 Facililties, multiple feedstock flexibility. Acquired facilities coming on-line; existing ones adding more production capacity. RFS2 quotas in place for 2013. Tax blender credit in place for 2013 (also 2012 retroactive payments due any time now). As ethanol blenders like BIOF and PEIX haven’t shown a profit, meanwhile biodiesel is profitable even without tax subsidies; including tax incentives it becomes allows exponential growth rates. If storms are brewing this hurricane season, these guys will have a horrible year as they are not diversified at all. CNA and HIG both trade for less than 0.75 book. HIG has Japan exposure, which Fly eluded to and is definitely a positive. CNA has a great CEO in Motamed. TRV and CB best in class, but much more expensive. I wish AIG would spin off their P&C operation and take it through an IPO. Best run P&C operation out there.

    Suggestion Box:
As a frequent reader might I make a suggestion?

I vote for an iBC sequestration cut induced, prisoner release program. Let the 1,300 banned readers out of purgatory all at once. Let there be riots in the iBC streets. Make the gentlemen sipping fine wine endour men with IQs under 50 while they engage in fist fights and puke all over the Persian rugs. Then one by one you can clean this place up again, sort of a New Beginning for iBC.

of the above, my “best idea” for a longer term is AFSI. The company is slowly cornering the extended warranty business. Their growth is not being reflected in their PE and stock price in general. Their underwriting is probably the best I have ever seen. Lastly, and importantly, this is a publically traded security of a (mostly) privately held business. The family that owns it will likely not sell anytime soon, which provides comfort during volitile times.

I think LVS could run to $85 a share if they split into a REIT. I believe its possible also because Penn Gaming did a REIT split and their largest shareholder seems to be all about banking coin. Have a great weekend!

Are you looking/have you looked at any bond plays? It is perhaps a little late in the game but I still like JNK because of the high dividend and since it has a variety of holdings it has a pretty low beta.

My top pick is KLIC. I purchased it Thursday. It is ranked in the top 10 of the PPT and its fundamentals are outstanding.

I am very bullish housing and wish I could use one of my favorites from that sector, but if the market corrects I feel that they may feel it the most. A dip in those is probably buyable.

How about CPST. it seems they have a great product, something that makes sense. Generates electricity off the grid, provides heating and or cooling, can run on coal bed methane, natural gas or even methane produced from wastewater sludge ( shit )
Too bad they can’t seem to ever turn a profit.
I bet someday GE will buy them but who knows when?
I own a bunch but if they don’t stay over a dollar for 10 days? They will be delisted from what I read.

DECK has been amazing and now you must be above your cost basis as I remember you said it was $55. If I recall, a lot of these retailers went on sale bigtime last summer and were great trades. Funny how sentiment has changed on DECK!

I see some insiders nibbling on CDE and ANV. Just observing for now but sometimes dead money in one sector can be stealthily bought by those who know dead won’t last forever. For example, I ran an oversold screen om 9-22-2012 and the following stocks have had very nice runs since – TGH, QBAK, PFBX, NSC, LAWS – thinly traded though some.

There is a bill to be paid for this party…and all the Ben Bernankes in the world can only delay, not prevent, its delivery. If we are very lucky, and Fortune smiles, a nuclear war involving multiple combatants may be avoided. But, the odds of such are beyond miniscule. As the generals say, “An unused weapon is a useless weapon.”

The Cyprus despositor seizure and the floating of the idea to take even insured deposits is an attempt to force money into stocks and real estate. It will probably work. So speculate accordingly.

That is just 100% incorrect. Wealth tax is not meant for anything other than transfer of capital. It is not an impetus to seek return. Stock will never be safer than deposits (thus, why CY has not opened their stock market, but have reopened banks). Reassess good sir.

Let me expound, because I have respect for all on this board, and I will reply in the same vein as The Fly (although this will have nowhere near as much as gravitas) in the form of a running narrative.

Uninsured deposits will take upwards of a 60% haircut in the new “bad bank”. Whenever they get their money fully out, the action taken at the margin will not be “i need to make it back within a year” as they pile into equities, for this is stupid (read: desperate) investing. It will be “i need to take better care of my money”. Burn me once Cyprus…

To say nothing of the small businesses who are absolutely trounced by this 60+% haircut on deposits… investors who have amassed such wealth will not put it right into the US market at the margin, and they sure as hell aren’t putting it into another country with a structural crisis (Japan, i’m looking at you). So, where then? Europe? China? HA. Maybe to a nice LatAm destination? Again though, this is money that went to a savings account, even as the S&P was making new highs and everyone was witness to the melt-up… it was clearly money that was not to be/could not be invested. There was a time when getting into the S&P was smart on many levels, that time has passed for the moment.

Now they’ve taken a shot to the chin on their savings, but it does not mean that the money is to be repurposed from savings into investment funds. I think the money was out of the US to begin with, and stays out of the US, and other countries where there isn’t a mechanism for laundering. This is not bullish. Money doesn’t become instantly laundered and free for the global efficient frontier once you take 60% away. Said another way, if capital is available, it isn’t going back into financial institutions:

      http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-03-30/whos-next-italys-monte-paschi-admits-billions-deposit-outflows

Hate or love that site, can anyone rebuke capital flight vs. reinvestment of said cash disbursements?

My investment advice: commodities are cyclical, but stay away from precious/industrial metals. Thank you Bernank

It’s not the money in Cyprus that’s going anywhere. It’s savings around the rest of the world. Hurt a million and scare a billion into withdrawing some savings. It’s reasonable to think that if bank savings are drawn down some percentage of that money goes into the markets.
