Only one silver miner has strayed away from the pack, still up nicely while silver is lower. Unless they’re mining sheet rock and NFLX DVD’s, I do not see anything special about AG to give it this sort of premium, trading more than 8x sales–sporting negative revenue and earnings growth rates.

I don’t know how crazy you would have to be to fork over your money to $MCP. They do everything wrong. Why not short them?
generally a little hard to borrow shares of moly for a naked short. although shorting the preferred this mornng would have been a great play.
If I had to guess, the price premium is a function of their production growth in 2012, expected production growth in 2013 as additional projects start producing and their cost structure (low compared to the other miners). Being solely in Mexico they also don’t have as large a geopolitical risk as the others (not that AG has no risk, just less or perceived as less).
Compustat paints a bleak picture for AG.

Icahn pouring on the Herbalife long with Ackman’s JCP getting hammered. Figures Ackman has to cover some HLF shorts with that JCP “slight miss” today. Answers someone’s question from yesterday as to why HLF seemed to be melting up. Nice play by Icahn.
