This just in…
Southern gentleman and scholar, Woodshedder, just faxed me his unconditional surrender with regards to the wholesomeness of McDonald’s mcnuggets. As you remember, Mr. Woodshedder violently defended MCD, comparing its Big Mac sandwiches to Michelin 3 star eateries.
Similar to the confederate surrender at Vicksburg, Woodshedder admits that butane aka “lighter fluid” in his food is not preferable and thereby cedes all rights to independent victory in this argument to the master living in the north, SENOR TROPICANA, where the air is crisp and the people intelligent.

another victory for FLY… Cheers…
lmao…Dayum, I knew that admission would come back to haunt me!
Hm… (I remain unconvinced), but I’ll celebrate this apparent victory with four Quarter Pounders.
You all will be glad to know that I did not concede on the 2 Cheeseburgers Meal, pink slime and all.
hear hear.
Sometimes being a know-it-all is a good thing.
However, that would be the exception.
I am just glad I ditched GSVC at $18.03 on Fryday.
This whole Facebook IPO is frightening.
It reeks of the dotcom disasters of lore.

Far off topic but I have to pass this along as food for thought…..
It’s a slow day in the small town of Pumphandle and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody is living on credit.
A tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at the motel, and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night.
As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, the Co-op.
The guy at the Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her “services” on credit.
The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel Owner.
The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town now thinks that they are out of debt and there is a false atmosphere of optimism and glee.
And that, my friends, is how a “stimulus package” works!
At about $800 in “earned income,” the HOBOams bless this economy.
The net debt in the town was $0 before the visitor arrived, and stayed at $0 after the visitor left. So the math checks out. The town people just needed a nudge to settle their bills to each other. So your tale is not close to how QE works.
Good thing I’m taking Obonics, … hm…, er…, HOBOamonics PASS/FAIL then.
You’re such a juvenile idiot. Keep on keeping on bro.
That’s BRA diarrhea-mouth. Tie your velcro shoes, then fall down stairs. Writhe in pain when done. Dismissed.
McDonalds was an original investor and financial backer of Chipotle Mexican Grill ! From 1998 to 2006 … McDonalds owned 80% of Chipotle. They divested ALL of their shares in 2006 !
You MCD haters can surely AT LEAST … give’m some credit for that … ah hem … can’t you ?
Chipotle is … Muy Bien !!!
.
Actually, no.
CMG is crap too.
Fly, are there any casual eateries that are not crap?
Hmmm.
NO.
PNRA has cheese in every dish. When I go out, I find myself eating frozen yogurt, drinking lots of water, and if anything a mediterranean dish of hummus with pita and grilled chicken.
It appears that you want to live forever, which will require gazillions of $$, that fortunately, you will have.
Cheese is nasty.
… that VERY WELL may be … tha DUMBEST comment ever posted here !!!
Go Live A Little (for GOD’S sake) … eat some cheese !!!
What a bunch of wimps !!!
.
alf44, I hereby forgive you for every stupid-ass thing you’ve ever written. Let’s let bygones be bygones, shall we?
Apologize here … for the lewd and perverse references you made toward my wife AND my deceased Mother … and THEN … maybe !!!
.
Nope, I’m sure if I ever made any such comment, that you were truly deserving of it.
TRUCE OFF!
On second thought, in the spirit of Fly unbanning the banned, I sincerely apologize for whatever I said about your wife and mother.
I will also un-ban you from my blog, once I figure out your IP.
… don’t bother !
For I … have “banned” … YOU !!! (in effect)
—
I can’t conceive of a situation where I would EVER again be compelled to post on your “blog” !
Or, actually READ IT … for that matter !
But … thank you all the same !!!
.
… YOU … “forgive ME” ???
Sociopathic !!! LOL
FU !!!
.

Just because you choose to live your life like an oaf, doesn’t mean the rest of us should do the same.
It would be wise if you reflected upon your obese ways and made a change for the better.
Fly !
Are you gonna eat that last “drumstick” ?
May I ?
Pass the mashed potatoes and gravy … Please !
😉
.
And that my friends is why in real life, Fly is puny and has fragile bones.
As I recall, you declined my invitation to arm wrestle.
LMFAO. As I recall, the restaurant was to be too fancy for such redneckery.
As it turned out, no one would have noticed me beating you anyway, what with Scott and Phil shouting at each other.
I will let you bask in your delusions. Maybe next year I will bring the Ivan Drago punch meter to dinner so we can test each others strength, like in a carnival.
Fuck yeah. However, RC is NOT allowed to participate.
Yeah, that wouldn’t be fair.
Maybe we’ll have a tug of war contest, where the losers fall into a pit filled with hot lava and die.
I’ll take Chess and RC, you can have Scott, Jake and Cronkite.
My gawd that is funny. You all will have to take a “chair ass” handicap.
I hope Jake is not reading this.
Whoops, I meant we will need the handicap…
Where’s Jake?
I used to rassle kids, remember? I’m good at all kinds of rope tricks.
I will not even need the teeny tiny Woodshedder.
What is Fly going to do? Ride on RC’s shoulder-mah-pads?
______
I’ve got the place for you then, Fly — Zoe’s Mediterranean Kitchen.
Hummus, greek kabobs, salads, etc.
They’re springing up all over down here in Fast/Casual Dining Central.
_____________
And MCD initially funded Redbox which was later sold to Coinstar. Thank them for cheap DVD rentals. MCD is a job creation machine.
They owned Donato’s Pizza too. Love it.
MCD – Bought and Sold it.
… now you take that back !
YOU HEARD ME … TAKE IT BACK RIGHT NOW !
—
I don’t wanna go all “honeyshedwoodbadger” on yer arse … but, I’m afixento … soon as I finish this Muy Bien Carnita Burrito with Black Bean and Corn Salsa !!!
‘
lol…moderation is the key, in all things (especially food and beverage) except for sex.
Well, considering CMG shares are worth almost 10 times what they were worth in 2006 when McDonalds sold, why would McDonalds deserve credit for that?
Senor fly…CMG is crap at $400? why..
illegal mexicans
… and to think … I thought your problem with Chipotle might be the fact that the burrito flour tortillas have 290 calories !
SIGH !
.
I feel left out, I have never eaten there..
Before you do eat there, watch this:
http://videosift.com/video/South-Park-Chipotle-Away
but they are “organic”..they are much better! and growing at 30% +
CMG is sodium riddled crap. Excess salt is
used to compensate for dishes that lack proper balance and flavor.
excess salt as in MCD fries?
Yes. Don’t get me wrong though, I do like salt. It’s just you have to use technique with it, not just empty an entire shaker on a crown of broccoli. If there’s a salt shaker on your table at home or at a restaurant you frequent, my brow raises in your direction.
What if it is garlic salt? Will the brow raise be only half way?
Personally, I never salt anything, being genetically predisposed to high blood pressure.
I prefer garlic powder and salt disassociated because I regulate with kosher salt during preparation.
I do use salt while cooking, but it should not be caked on during consumption was my point. Fleur de sel or a small bit of finishing salt is appropriate.
Agreud. I rarely use salt, even when cooking. Except in chili, and strangely, pancakes (for the kiddos, of course), and fried oysters.
It drives Mrs. Woodshedder crazy. SALT IS SEASONING she yells.
I do use lots of garlic powder.
Wood
Black tea lowers high blood pressure.
Yes but Atenolol is 4 bucks for a month’s worth and black tea at Teavana is 4x that.
More seriously, I’ll look into that.
LOL
The question becomes how much salt does it take to raise one’s blood pressure and by how much?
Eating less salt doesn’t cut heart risks: Study

HAlf
I am very skeptical of these studies. I remember reading one that said a daily diet of bacon mixed with butter doesn’t lead to heart attacks. Or, statins do not do anything but make your bones ache.
Ultimately, it comes down to common sense. If you put fat in your pipes, they will clog. And sodium is well known to cause spikes in blood pressure. New study I read about today said to take blood pressure with both arms, as they can be markedly different. I don’t really care about all of that stuff, as I am immortal. However, you should take note.
Just trying to keep everyone honest here Dr. Fly. I have read a lot of commentary regarding health lately and have kept pretty quiet. I can recollect a chart buried deep in my brain from cardiology and salt moderation was at the very bottom of the list regarding bang for you buck.
That said the ability to critique a scientific study properly is quite an undertaking and requires a great deal of skill, much as a man of your skill set possesses the ability to read a quarterly report and break it down with great haste.
Exactly.
That article is deceptive. They say there are three groups of participants: low salt intake, medium, and high. They didn’t say they were equally sized groups in the complete sample set. Next, they said that 2/3 of participants at the beginning had normal blood pressure and that 25% of those who had normal blood pressure now have high blood pressure. If you use a simple Bayesian probability the results now show that 16.5% plus those already with high blood pressure end up in the high-blood pressure group. It also assumes one’s eating habits are kept constant over 8 years. Depending on that person’s age, numerous lifestyle changes could be endured over that time (especially a college-to-adult specimen). Hereditary factors can affect the kidneys too. I’ll err to skepticism.
The full study was available in JAMA this past summer. Without reading the full text it is difficult to know how “legit” the results are. That said JAMA does not publish rubbish very often.
au contraire:

Indeed. I believe Fly is picking up on a lot of non science here. Luckily, I’ve lived long enough to see a lot of what was the very best of thinking change and then change again, and again.
I really don’t believe the analogy to plumbing of putting fat in your pipes is real science, however, all things in moderation, while not science either, is common sense and it has been espoused multiple times throughout history.
Sure. Bet against the guy in the time machine. This country is doing just fine with its grotesque eating habits.
… the guy in the “Time Machine” … needs to steer that damn thing off the “beaten path” … every now and then … AND … loosen his belt !
Life is Short my Friend !!!
An occasional indulgence is healthy !!!
.
Perhaps you will need to loosen your belt, eating all of that slop. I, on the other hand, will need to tighten it.
Life is not too short.
Fly, are $RRGB burgers okay?
you guys are arguing as if poor people care how toxic the food is. Mcdonalds is a great company because poor people can see the big yellow M from wherever in the ghetto they may be. They don’t like it either but the arsenic in the fries mellows out the starving children and Ronald takes care of toys via happy meals so the deadbeats can keep buying crack and vodka on Christmas eve instead of presents for their children.
I apologize if anyone was offended by my analysis.
Lead in the toys too.
I almost forgot… so many of my stocks have been doing so well for so damn long that they are now considerably overbought.
All except the best one, I mean…
