But hey, let’s put these Superbowl squabbles aside for now and bask in the glow of some relatively overbought, but still promising markets. From yesterday, some of my bigs, including ANV, RGLD and AXU just did not want to give up their marches northward even with the brief spurt of the dollar and the commensurate minor shellacking of the precious metal commodity markets. Heck, even SLW, AG and EXK, my silver darlings, did not give up much today, despite precipitously overbought conditions.
That leaves us with a bit of a problem, however, as we don’t want to enter or even add to these great weekly stories until we get a bit more of a blowoff. This predicament is not wholly PM-restricted either, as I am hoping for the same pullback in my recently relentless “Stock of the Year” pick, UPS, and my Seventh Samurai servant, MON, as well.
Luckily, I have another Samurai that has been taking a bit of a rest lo these last three trading days, and coincidentally, it happens to be my best performer of the year. Yes ladies and gents, that odd post title did stand for something… the ubiquitous PBR, which hit exactly at that $32 resistance I mentioned when I first recc’ed it, and, like a good Brasilian trophy wife, has sold back in the most delicate manor. Note how the 20-day has now met the 200-day EMA in this nascent recovery of 2012?
I think we may have one, and perhaps two more days of consolidation left in this girl from Ipanema, and I’m hoping for an additional pickup in the $29.25 area, perhaps tomorrow sometime. I think earl is already starting to take up it’s part in the “liquidity wheel” along with gold and silver. This darling will continue to benefit, as will we all.

I added small to my 75%, but very small today just in case the pull does not occur for awhile. Once the pull backs is over I’ll add some more. This is starting to look like Old Turkey time again. Once I’m convinced, I may have some to celebrate or is that Wild Turkey?
Wild Turkey is bourbon, but nothing special.

Pappy Van Winkle 15 year is my favourite It’s also offered in 12, 20 and 23 year varietals, but the 15 is “perfect” IMHO. Fly likes the 20 and overs. Too peppery for me. I
The problem is availibility. You may not be able to get it in Hawaii, and if you can, it’ll be a high end joint and likely run you $80 a bottle. For contrast, the 23-year old is even rarer and runs about $300/bottle if you can get it. It’s mostly sold in Japan, where they go nuts for U.S. bourbon whiskey and high end single malt scotches.
Angel’s Envy is another favourite. It is a specialty bourbon cured in port barrels, which gives it almost a cognac taste. Very nice.
Rowan’s Creek and Noah’s Mill are two specialty brands from the same small house that are very nice and making the rounds. If you have to choose, take the latter.
For “bang for your buck” I don’t think you can beat the Elijah Craig 12 year or the Weller’s 12 year. Both are under $25 (and the Weller’s might be under $20) and both are very nice sipping whiskeys (neat or on the rocks).
For “everday drinking” you want Woodford Reserve. Just very consistent and tasty.
Makers Mark makes a good bourbon and coke, if that’s what your wife drinks. It’s what mine does, and she’ll have no other. Otherwise, it’s too sweet for me.
Everything below Maker’s Mark (mid-market)quality is not worth it, including Old Turkey.

Nothing bothers me … Bill is too happy … smiling and telling jokes and all … so unlike him. OT — I was listening to the NFL Channel on Sirius this morning and they had Maaahhk Baaahvaaahro on. You forget how much of a Southie accent that fugger had. It’s almost amazing that he’s a Giant fan, given his closeness with the BellyChicken.
Funniest thing in the whole interview was when the interviewer was waxing on about how great Gronk was and what a weapon and blah blah blah, and then the queries two time Superbowl winning ex-Giant TE Bavaro along these lines:
Interviewer: He’s such a BIG dude, and so versatile out there… Does it ever make you think “Gee, what I would do to trade (to be him, not exact words)….
Bavaro: Excuse me?
Interviewer: Well, you know, 20 years later, do you look back and think, ‘What I would have done if I could trade places (with Gronk)….

Interviewer: Yeah, you know….
