HOCUS POCUS

I predict I will lose a great deal of money in DECK today, thanks to seemingly warm weather.

Apparently, we’ve all become Barney Rubbles, walking barefoot throughout the wilderness. The stock is down another $4.5 on no news.

Separate from DECK, the general market looks okay. I am not enthralled because breadth is still weak. But that will likely change throughout the day, as shorts gets compressed into panini sandwiches and eaten with fries.

If it wasn’t for Europe, I’d be rather constructive over US equities. Hell, the news isn’t that bad and companies are banking some serious coin. But then you have the big eastern mystery that is China. It can longer be debated, China is slowing. How else can you explain the draconian pullbacks in commodities? You know they are building ghost cities to keep people working. Well, apparently, they’ve slowed down. Consequently, the prices for raw commodities have plunged.

Either they are an incredible buying opportunity now or the party is over. It’s your call. I’m too busy eating granola.

I like DECK as a company…….but for an old value dog like me I would need to see it trade in the mid 30’s before I pulled that trigger.

I rate that as about a 50/50 bet.

For all those currently invested, my hope is for a quick zoom to triple digits and a profitable cash out for one and all.

Funny, I just read where one of the reasons Steve Jobs called his company Apple Computer was so he would be ahead of Atari in the phone book.

Good thing he didn’t call it Aardvark Computer…try to beat that in the phone book.

It’s not warm anymore – snow on the ground means UGGs on your feet.

Maybe we should short the umbrella makers too, I have a feeling this coming spring will not include much rain.

I blame it on the Fracking in ND.

UGGs were the cool item, back in 1995.

I was wondering how they could be a hot trend for 20 years.

      That just doesn’t happen.

They also just spent s bunch $$ building a massive new HQ building in Goleta, CA

My buddy lives near there, I grew up in so cal, and the UGGs were “Malibu” cool in the mid 90’s.

It takes a long time for that stuff to make it out across the US (then the world), like a slow wave, but it’s over.

I will keep my Malibu feelers out for the new cool thing.

In the 2000’s Uggs were THE fashion statement of lavish college girls at preppy/high-brow private universities on the east coast. I don’t know what has happened in the past few years because I’m no longer in college, but this was definitely a college fashion trend for the “in crowd” just a few years ago.

I’m very surprised to hear uggs even existed 20 years ago, but there ya have it. So it did somehow last at least 10 or 15 years, which is impressive.

Wife gave out 3 pairs of Uggs as gifts and know a few people who got them as gifts from others. We live in SoCal.

Remember Sperry Docksiders? They were cool in the early 80’s (along with Polo shirts)

Now people would laugh at you if you wore ’em.

Hey, I remember Beatle (as in John,Paul,George and Ringo) boots.
        They were for hoods, though.

        Sounds more like Crocs.

I still see a lot of women wear Uggs in SoCal and from what my wife told me, they were selling very well at Nordstrom during the holidays.

IMO DECK is probably the victim of EOY tax loss selling for 2011. Next week many of the winners in 2011 will see selling pressure.

Why would the sellers dump it all at once overnight/sell on open?

Remember the 100k buy at the close yesterday?

      Smells fishy to me.

Fly, you always give pretty damn good forward guidance, and general advice on the markets.

Maybe it’s time to sell some (or short some) DECK.

The time to short DECK was when it broke it’s 200 MA at $98 – that boat has sailed and we’re getting close to a bottom, based on what I see

As I sit here at the foot of Mt. Bachelor, I hope you are short, as it just hit 78.05.

I wonder what happens when the market sheds some gains.

My daughter got two pairs of Uggs for Xmas. I am sure she would have like more, but they are 120-180 a pair. A little expensive for a 14 yr old in my opinion.
