My issue with moving down south has nothing to do with “being accepted” or afraid of the southern culture. Quite the contrary. As a point in fact, no matter where I go there will not be any courting of acceptance from local yocals. Based upon the laws of science, the very rules that allow you to eat and breathe, my northern heritage makes me superior to those disheveled in the south. I’m afraid, frankly, that one of my scowls might go unnoticed while at a Whole Foods in Georgia, providing some Brave fan to make small talk with me. This, as you know, is not possible.
The winter months up north force us to stay inside and think of innovative ways to win wars and invent things. While the idiots in Florida are out picking oranges from their trees, us Northerners are plotting their demise.
I do admit, however, the frigid winter months wears on me like intelligence in Kentucky. Perhaps if I wasn’t so vain, I could accept my fate as a Northern Master and forget about relocating into enemy territory. After all, my very presence in the bible belt would cause uprisings and burning crosses to reemerge, as a wide array of historical truths thrust atop their empty mantles.
With regards to this market, as you can see I am ignoring it. I am enduring losses and I am not fond of losses. It’s only one big horrendous day in the big scheme of things. We’ve been through this drill before and I am accustomed to the volatility.

5th Mountain too.
You are welcome here anytime Dr. Fly.
The Southern part of Florida is nice, if you don’t mind the heat. Almost everyone who lives there is a Yankee too, so it would not be a re-adjustment in social atmosphere.
I do mind the heat.
But do you speak Spanish? If you don’t, forget about it!
You can still get by without the Spanish. Some folks tend to be rude but I suppose you get that up in NY too. Also, I’d rather heat to bitter cold. Always green, blue sky and shorts all year round.
Fly speaks Spanish like some kind of Spanish Angel.
From Spain.

I was going to say, Florida is where aging Michiganders go to die. Not exactly what I’d call “The South.”
It’s definitely not “The South”.
Thought Michiganders went to Arizona like Chicagoans?
____
Sheeee-it! You won’tg make many friends down south with that attitude!
Beautiful turn of phrase:
“the frigid winter months wears on me like intelligence in Kentucky”
All the more so because it’s true
All the more so, because you don’t understand it.

Very unusual for me.
Does this mean that Southerners can only buy “Piker” subscriptions to The PPT, or are they totally BANNED (the preferred choice, no doubt).
It’s a kindness to relieve them of their money. Only the crack vendors will be hurt.
best post ever

I moved my family to Sugar Land, Texas a year ago from Orange County, California. The schools are excellent, and the community has much to offer for those of us with small children. Admittedly, I miss the weather and various aspects of living in CA, but this is definitely a better place to raise a family. I’ve been here a year and am still amazed at all of the amenities we get for the paltry $915 annual association fee.
Hola Ruben, I live just north of SL y soy Cubano tambien, apellido Valdes. What brings you out this way?
“remerge”, sigh… seems the South is settling into your brain
Pussies. Come see what the real North is like.
You guys all live within 15 miles of the border. How much worse do you think you have it?
I took a road trip a couple of times to London. It was a few hundred miles of vacant farmland.
thats a boring drive Windsor to London. Very flat. A few wind and solar farms.
90% within 50 miles, actually. But the average winter temp for even our dozen most populace cities is 33F. For large US cities, the only one that comes close is Denver, at avg 36. NYC is a positively balmy 40.
So quit complaining down there 😉
Lol, down there being probably due West.
or North in the case of Detroit/Windsor
So if it’s so great, why did all the best comedians emigrate to the good old USA?
Come on down, the weather is great. Deliverance was just a fictitious movie about outsiders with condescending attitudes and their playful interaction with the locals. I promise, outsiders are now welcomed with open arms by the locals.

We allow you to believe you are a master. That is all.
Texas is the place to be.
Anyone got any ideas for TN … Commuting distance to Smyrna? My son currently renting a house in Columbia but it’s an hour commute to Smyrna. He’s renting a large house in upper class hood on a few acres for $1800/mo and likes it there but not sure about buying there or closer to Nissan where he’s working on their Leaf production QC as an engineer.
No good ideas. Maybe stay away from smaller towns? Our son, also an engineer, lived in Germantown (outside Memphis) for a while. TN has one of the lowest costs of living, but the sales tax is a killer. We thought houses were fairly cheap everywhere in TN, except in the center of major cities. The problem is as an engineer your son’s pay is pretty far above average, so there is not a large choice of “decent” houses. And when it comes time to sell, it takes a while to find a buyer making enough.
maybe in memphis… no shortage of hi-end houses or buyers in small town middle tennessee.
@tea – i don’t know nuthin’ bout smyrna except i’ve had no reason to visit it. ever.
Unless you have a Tier One Nissan relationship you mean?
_________
Franklin has some nice places, as does Brentwood. Much closer to Smyrna and Nashville.
Thanks Guys … Sorry about the tardy response … Out for the balance of the day unexpectedly.

You’ll puke the first time an Evangelical knocks on your door asking why you hate God.
Just release the dogs. They won’t be back.
We don’t get evangelists… that’s in the Flannery O’Conner short stories and she died in 1963. C’mon.
Now Mormons, on the other hand…

“While the idiots in Florida are out picking oranges from their trees…”
Can’t be bothered.
I am out picking oranges from my trees.
BTW: be observant, naranjo (Sp: orange) haters, M. Louis de Bourbon XIII-XVI were prolific orange growers, a reason the dwarf trees are strictly attended to, with fastidious care, a la chateau du Versaille:

I used to pick from my own trees until the Citrus Canker Eradication Program:-)
Did you get some $$ for reimbursement?
The inspectors never came here plus the trees are in the back in the corner of a 3 acre lot.
They are probably too lazy to walk that far.
Yes, I did. I’ve since grown a few different species of mango trees.
