As you know, “The Fly” was positioned long in gold/ag into February. At the time, it was not a very popular trade. Here I go again. As March rolls in, I will be rotating out of my precious metal positions into retail and select refiners. Although I like the idea of being long gold/silver into Libyan anarchy, I am a slave to fashion (so sorry). In this case, the more fashionable trade is the one that is out of vogue, sort of like rooting for Mel Gibson at the Oscars.
Names like PSUN, ARO and BWLD are of interest to me. Moreover, I’d be flabbergasted if the shares of KKD, MSSR, BBBY and FLWS didn’t sprint higher. Yes, folks, “The Fly” is all about endorsing caffeine induced credit card shopping sprees, whilst the world burns to the fucking ground.

For the refiner play, MRO is probably a good bet. OK, they have exposure to Libya but since 93.5% is being taken off the top anyway, who cares? MRO’s refineries are heavily concentrated in the midwest where the Brent / WTI spread works to their advantage. Lastly, most of their oil production is based on Brent prices.
MRO plans to spin off the refinery business in June, but one can be on to bigger and better things well before then.
If that’s the case, what do you think of Zagg? Perhaps a gamble heading into earnings, but with that huge short interest , seem like the risk-reward might be worth it.

The only one I can find anywhere near me now is in Penn Station, and I just can’t bring myself to do it because I am sure it will be just like something nasty from Dunkin Donuts.

I don’t know… with cotton prices doubling in six months, not sure you want to be long some of these names like PSUN…even the cheap polyesther stuff they make has gone up with oil prices.
