    W.H.O. ISSUES DIRE FLU-HIV WARNING
Geneva, Switzerland — The World Health Organization has issued a dire warning to health professionals worldwide alerting them to the “very real and likely” possibility the new flu virus could combine with HIV and mutate into air-spreadable AIDS!!!

Individuals already infected with HIV are already at great risk of contracting the new, highly contagious flu because their immune systems are compromised by HIV.

When any person becomes infected with flu, the flu virus routinely “re-associates” with the genetics of other viruses which happen to be in that person. When this takes place in a person who has HIV, the flu could take-on the immune-system-killing effects of HIV and still retain its ability to be spread via air!

This would create a mutant strain of HIV which could spread by air.

Persons who live in areas with high populations of HIV infected persons, (i.e. cities) should be especially careful because their HIV positive neighbors could be incubating the deadliest combination of flu/HIV imaginable.

People worldwide are being advised to avoid contact with persons you know to be infected with HIV because there is no way to know if they have been infected with flu which could be mutating inside their body.

If HIV combines with this new flu and begins spreading by air, it would make the fictional Steven King movie “The Stand” a horrific reality with literally billions dying.

If the HIV/FLU story were valid, why wouldn’t it have already happened with some other airborne virus? What is so special about the current pig flu that it would “mutate” with HIV. What a fucking retard. I hear there are some bridges in Brooklyn for sale.

“I think it is very irresponsible for MSN to print this article. We are in a recession and over 2 million people are out of work. MSN should not be glorifying these women who make multi-million dollars a year. They should be focusing on the women who are struggling in this recession to make ends meet–women who persevere, dedicated to their family and are willing to sacrifice what they need to in order for their family to survive. These are the successful women I want featured.

~After the bombs were dropped on August 6 and 9 of 1945, and their surrender soon thereafter, the Japanese were allowed to keep their Emperor on the throne and he was not subjected to any war crimes trial. The Emperor, Hirohito, came on the throne in 1926 and continued in his position until his death in 1989. Since President Truman, in effect, accepted the conditional surrender offered by the Japanese as early as May of 1945, the question is posed, “Why then were the bombs dropped?”~

it in fact seems that very point is central to the kunspearacie sites argument.

Sorry, “Arnold,” but you’ve been posting conspiracy bullshit all weekend without appending proof, so it’s not like you’ve not got a bit of a “rep” on the subject.

So the burden of proof is on you to explain how — even as the military junta in charge of Japan was ready to kidnap the God Emperor himself in order to keep him from ending the war — somehow Truman was a war criminal for forcing him (at last) to the table?

    _____________

I’m going to make it a policy from now on to not respond to anonymous cowards, but since I will this as you or an extension of your argument, Arnold….

Since President Truman, in effect, accepted the conditional surrender offered by the Japanese as early as May of 1945, the question is posed, ā€œWhy then were the bombs dropped?ā€~

Truman didn’t accept anything, as he was merely following known policy as set out by FDR originally, and neither did the Japanese generals (and up to almost the end, the young Emperor being guided by them) who knew that they would be tried as war criminals upon any surrender.

The best case I can find for the conditional/non-conditional argument is one of missed timing, regarding the Potsdam Ultimatum:

Immediately on Forrestal’s arrival in Potsdam on July 28, he took the messages to the new Secretary of State (which spoke of the possibility of allowing the Emperor to remain –ed.), James F. Byrnes, who saw them “in detail” for the first time, although he had previously known of their existence and presumably the thrust of their content. In Strauss’s words, “Forrestal was too late by forty-eight hours. The Potsdam Declaration — the ultimatum to Japan — had been dispatched on the twenty-sixth, and events were now in the saddle, riding the decision-makers.”[19] On the very day Forrestal and Byrnes were talking, Japan characterized the ultimatum with a unique Japanese word, mokusatsu, meaning “not worth of reply. “[20] Although the ultimatum reassured the Japanese that they would remain a sovereign nation, it failed to assure them that they might keep their Emperor, and it promised stern justice to all war criminals. No mention was made of the atomic bomb.

Five days later, there was one last intercept. “The battle situation has become acute,” it said, and concluded, “Since the loss of one day relative to this present matter may result in a thousand years of regret, it is requested that you immediately have a talk with Molotov. “[21]

After the successful test of the atomic bomb on July 16, President Truman and his advisers felt sure that they had the means to end the war quickly without any concessions to or negotiations with Japan. And the Soviets had every reason to want to carry out their pledge to enter the war on or about August 8, thus staking out a share of the credit for the Pacific victory and the division of power in its aftermath. Upon Japan’s rejection of the Allied ultimatum, the dynamics of the situation seemed to the decision-makers clearly to favor the prompt use of the new weapon.

As soon as Japan rejected the Allied demand on July 28, the Air Force had its green light. The Hiroshima bomb was dropped on August 6. The Soviet Union, as promised, declared war on Japan on August 8. The Nagasaki bomb was released on August 9. Japan sued for surrender on August 10, on the condition that they could keep their Emperor. The United States accepted Japan’s conditional surrender on August 11, with certain stipulations. Three days later, Japan agreed to the stipulations. The war was over.

The Grew strategy, which had envisioned a successful American diplomatic effort to end the war by an offer and acceptance of a “conditional surrender” (the same condition that became the accepted basis for surrender in August) by the end of July, was subsequently considered by several people to have had more than an outside possibility of success. Among those who thought so in retrospect, in addition to Grew himself, were Hanson Baldwin, military analyst for The New York Times, and Robert J.C. Butow, author of Japan’s Decision to Surrender.[22] Especially significant was the view expressed by Secretary of War Stimson, as stated in his autobiography, co-authored with McGeorge Bundy. “It is possible,” said Bundy, “in the light of the final surrender, that a clearer and earlier exposition of American willingness to retain the Emperor would have produced an earlier ending to the war. . . . But in the view of Stimson and his military advisers, it was always necessary to bear in mind that at least some of Japan’s leaders would seize on any conciliatory offer as an indication of weakness.”[23] At another point Bundy writes: “Only on the question of the Emperor did Stimson take, in 1945, a conciliatory view; only on this question did he later believe that history might find that the United States, by its delay in stating its position, had prolonged the war.”[24]

Truman took the only option that _guaranteed_ unconditional US victory.

Yeah. If you read the piece I linked above, it’s actually critical of the whole “saved a million lives” meme as the reason for dropping the bombs.

But if you read the whole thing, it’s very obvious that even that (Princeton) historian beleieves the other strategies would have extended the war out til the end of 1945. That would have meant continued firebombings of the major cities, and likely more Japanese dead than the two nuke bombs wrought. The firebombing of Tokyo alone had taken some 80,000 already, and the Military Junta was making statements about sacrificing all 32 million Japanese to the Emperor.

If you don’t like that Whittle guy slicing and dicing (deservedly) Jon “Sometimes I’m a Clown, Sometimes I’m Dan Rather” Stewart for his boorish comments (since retracted), you should read that other piece instead.

i donā€™t have to earn your civility, jake. your problem is your ego and length of diatribe.

If “ego” offends you, you are in the wrong place, Chester.

That said, I’m well aware of my ego problems. That doesn’t leave you license to spout your no doubt firmly held theories without being able to back them up. A responsible community depends upon a modicum of credibility — and civility.

You’re the worst of both world, Arnold– full of nonsense, and an obstreperous ass about it.

You have to give it some time. Takes about 30-40 minutes for the Paypal monkeys to move your data through their system.

I signed up 10 minutes ago or so. Paypal shows the transaction, but I’ll give it a few and try again. I’ll let you know.
I have to give the Fly and etc.’s software a look at the non-piker level.

    Jakey:

Not sure if we’re in agreement or not. Read the piece, but apparently the synapses aren’t firing to their full capacity so I came away with mostly a ‘huh’?

I’ll have to go back and re-read…

All I can add right now is to spout my own view again…in that Truman’s only choice for guaranteeing a quick end to the war were the bombs.

The demonstratory effect of them on the Soviet Union mustn’t be discounted either – in effect they were the first 2 shots of the Cold War, getting the ‘good guys’ off on the front foot.

    One more comment,
Newbys-Don’t ask for a new password too soon because you’ll go from a few letters to the inordinately long equivalent of a cartoon expletive.
I’m sure it is random but I had to laugh because I’m not sure.

Dpeez — Agreed on both points. My reason for posting the second article was to show Arnold that there were other historians who eschewed the “saved a million U.S. G.I. lives” reasoning for dropping the bombs, but whose analysis leads to the conclusion that it was the fastest way to end the war.

Whether it saved more Japanese lives is debateable, but given the tenor of those in control at the time, it’s hard to imagine that six more months of war would not have been far more devastating to the civilian population.

firebombing civilians is not torture and is clearly allowed by the Jeniva Convention, as is vaporizing non-combatant civilians via a wave of fissionable material.

I joined the PPT about one week ago. Thought to myself, ‘no not another bourgeois subscription service, I already belong to over a dozen – however, The Fly says he enjoys a good bordeaux, maybe it has merit, let me see what it’s about’.

My impression is that it’s not an ’82 Lafite, actually it’s more like a beaujolais, not an aged bordeaux. Light, spirited and must be consumed quickly. Yet it is refreshing and timely. There are many flavors competing for the palate, but still balanced, with the ingredients and climate of the season seeming to rise to a definable tone on the tongue. Money well spent. 89

I will continue to observe and may write sparingly.

Wolfram is an awesome company, their new knowledge management system will be first class. It will not compete with google. Google is a generic crawler, but I have used their servers to categorize specific meta-tagged dimensional data and act somewhat as a knowledge system for business apps.
