“The Chinese Lottery Guy (TCLG)” added to his SNIC position today, based on the outside possibility that they will be chosen to provide video streaming services for CSTR. Even if they don’t, I still like the name. I want you to understand, today’s sell off is tepid and is not scary enough to get me to raise cash. I’m all about winning money these days, via random and deliberate dart throws into a stack of symbols, located inside of my garbage can.
MEE is spiking on takeover rumors. Nothing to see here. Merger Monday is on schedule, because it’s ridiculous to hold cash, for THAT is a depreciating asset.
Quick note: my pal Scott Bleier has gone premium with his morning radio show, at the ludicrously cheap introductory rate of $10 per month. Think about that, you leeches. If you have received one iota of insight from Mr. Bleier, sign up for his show. I think it’s fair to say Scott has proven his worth many times over during this rally, nailing it from the bottom. What you don’t know, Scott has been doing this consistently for two decades. More on that at a later date, all related to “The Fly’s” morning rituals back in the late 90’s.
Top picks: FTK, EJ, HEAT, SNIC, FORM, FUQI, GU
UPDATE: I bought 5,000 of the “S-COK” in the $8.50’s

BIG!
yes, 1928 it is…winter of, that is…
enjoy it.
Signed up for Scotty last night. He (as well as ChessNwine) have called this market perfectly. Money well spent.
Goodman, one of the best improvisational jazz musicians…ever
Love BG but think of him more as a swing musician rather than jazz. For jazz I go to Bird, Monk and Miles. Yeah baby!
A couple of really hot musicians in the 20s & 30s: Slim and Slam. And, of course, Django. Yes-in-deabry.
If you guys are into jazz or blues, check out the African music scene. There’s 500-times more material to choose from, and the talent is generally much higher calibre.
The annual Festival of the Desert in Timbuktu, Mali is a testament to how far back in time this tradition goes… the Tuareg are the ones who actually created the blues —

Saw Toure front-row at WOMAD a few years ago. Now he’s passed. What a memorable experience! Had several members of his tribe on stage with him, just hanging out for the tour.
FTK over $2. Let the drums of war commence until we hit $3, bitches.
Does this mean we have to change the iBC dictionary definition of FTK?
we may need to add an alt definition.
FTK is en fuego. I am liking it here. Should have added more yesterday like I was thinking, but it is already 20% of my portfolio. Oh well, it is still gonna rock.
FTK has moved above the 20′,50′,100′, and 200′ daily and 2day SMAs on double barreled volume action. I know Fly doesn’t care for technicals but is still a nice condition to have.. Will be listening to some conference calls tonight to see if I can pull the trigger on some more share purchases. I have a small position at a 1.68.. I bought some at 2.20 with Fly a long while back and sold for a good profit when it jumped. now i’m looking to build a better position again if it pulls back some.
For some reason, I have a feeling FTK, to use a phrase from Le Fly, is not going to vomit all over itself this time. I am going to be picking up more of this thing on Monday on a dip.
fuck that – make it $50
His band kicked ass, everyone one of those musicians.
Wait – The Fly also listens to real music, with actual melodies? Whoa.
“The Fly” is a gentleman of massive proportions.
Doofus looking white guy can play! Like nobody’s bidness! And the vibraphonist is a master, too.
that be lionel hampton. no doubt that he is a master
There were a couple incarnations of Benny’s band. The early quartet and quintets swing much harder than his later big bands. it is kind of like ElvIs’ early Sun Sessions being his most original and funkiest stuff and then he gradually moved towards mainstream – just like Benny.
One of then really important players that came through the Goodman bands was Charlie Christian, who some refer to as the ” father of electric guitar”. He did bring the concept of improvisation to guitar. Before that guitars strictly played rhythm (in swing bands), and soloing was left to the horn players. Charlie Christian changed all this with his electric guitar. One of his best known tunes was Air Mail Special. It is all a little dated now, but extremely important to the overall progression of the music.
I used to play most of the early Goodman catalog in my band (on guitar). It did get me used to copping licks from horn players and pianists instead of other guitarist. And gave me a great respect for the founders of jazz. Some thought it was odd to be enamored with this early music, but I. Loved it – still do.
I used to play
BTW: This tune is a big band tune played by what we be the smaller quartet and quintet setting. If you guys dig Benny, you really should check out his early stuff. He was monstering on that stuff. Those guys used to swing so-o-o-o hard.

Sing, Sing, Sing (1940s big band era), but still swingin’. You can here the influence on bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, etc.

Ok, sorry for the digression, folks. I know this isn’t a music blog. I couldn’t resist….
Enjoy

Nice to see there are a few other musically educated gentlemen here. “Sing, Sing, Sing” was of course the Goodman signature tune (as “In the Mood” was to Miller) but the extended live big band versions were the shit, esp. after Gene Krupa joined the band (his drum solos on Sing, Sing, Sing were the first commercially recorded drum solos!). With Lionel Hampton on vibes, it was a mindblowing crew, and played much more adventurous stuff than Goodman’s peers.
BTW – If you haven’t checked out Ken Burns’ documentary series “Jazz,” do. Really well done & traces the key historical figures & events from the early roots to the present, with great insights from Wynton & others.
Thanks Cloris for the “Jazz” suggestion. I see it there on Netflix and will check it out. Nice photo of Billie Holiday on the cover. I play “world lounge” music now ( a hybrid of world beat & jazz ), but never get tired of real jazz.
If you want hear some hot reggae jazz, check a guitarist named Ernest Ranglin. He was at the center of the creation of the reggae sound, but is also a smoking jazz guitarist – riffin’ over “real” authentic reggae. Very cool stuff.
Check out the African soukous scene sometime… if you like guitar work…
Huit Kilos

Kanda Bongo Man

And also… (not soukous)
Ali Farka Toure (blues/jazz)
Orchestra Poly Rythmo de Cotonou (inspired by James Brown)
Some of my favorite guitarist are the African Soukous players. The first time I heard them (20 years ago) I was like, WTF are these guys doing? They approach the guitar and rhythm completely differently than we do. They don’t play chords at all. Man they cook!
We play some Soukous in my band. Folks love it.
Hahaha – Yessiree Dawg; I am old as dirt and getting older by the second. It is better than the alternative though. Truth be told I have been playing music for almost that long. I dig the music of the guy formerly know as the artist formerly known as Prince. But I can also remember when Jimi Hendrix “Are U Experienced?” and “Led Zeplin I” came out. That was a good time, free love and great music. The kids still love that “classic Rock” – which says something – just like with Benny.
Huge fan of Ranglin – If my copy of “Below the Bassline” were vinyl, I would have worn it out by now. Wish his catalogue were bigger! I love all that early ska-influenced stuff…Studio One, Jackie Mittoo, etc.
Loves me some soukous too. (I mainly play congas & percussion now – that stuff will school you, if you’re a percussionist.) And, of course, the whole Afrobeat genre – got a bunch of Fela discs.
Mittoo, yes mahn… My biggest reggae groove influence. I just counted – we have 9 Mittoo tunes on our song list (laid back – instrumental would lounge). You are a percussionist? Central Coast by any chance?
I’m in Marin County
S.C. here. Maybe we should take it off line. Not sure if this is street legal on the blog, but – drop me a line, if you wish:

Awesome to meet another Ranglin/Mittoo fan and player…

Again, sorry for getting off topic guys. I will stop now.
You must be over 47 1/2. I suppose you think Prince is the reincarnation of Al Jolson.

Just wanted to know if u attended university,
so I’ll take that as no.
We don’t call it University here, small Commonwealth pleb.
Your youtube idiocy makes my dog cry out.
_________
I sorta agreed with mr fly….This economy bring out a crazy gentle, but peaceful side. Like looking over at your dog sitting in your recliner, while having real conversation with him. Ya my dog talks! lol big smile and bright white teeth. If you can talk about crazy stuff so can I.
Just watched Beck. Where I come from, they use three words to describe this type:
“He’s fuckin’ NUTS!”
not true
1928= Prohibition? Party without booze?
Yeah, but cocaine was legal and a key ingredient in Coke-a-Cola (not that coke is a good thing – either of them). Opium was legal as laudanum. And, of course, prohibition just made it more exciting to drink. Many laws today are questioned as to whether they promote or deter usage.
Can we please have our daily dose of Beck? He’s been talking up the 15 days of horror all week. I’m quite curious how it ends.
My guess is something like the story of a certain individual way back when who stood near a post at the London Stock Exchange, watching the markets crash while in all cash… Only to buy everything up at the bottom and amass riches beyond belief.
The puppet master.

Okay, I’m caught up on Beck… I agree that is possible but a very very unlikely outcome.
I posted wrong link. Here is financial END GAME, DEVILDOG, BLUE BLAZER ALL DAY EVERYDAY SCENARIO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_668356&v=En-oJHyG-PY
What these guys say is based on myths (that China finances US spending; that t-bonds are fiscal policy tools,…). And though I know the assumptions and premises in their analysis of consequences are flawed, I wonder whether Wall Street and other foreign “Streets” will react exactly as these guys describe in their scenario.
I figured since the last link was 5/11/10 instead of 11/5/10. I was forced to google it myself.
The NWO scenario is very much like the story I was referring to last night with the man at the LSE and basically just a continuation of that story resulting in a New World Order. When central bankers rule the world. Not sure if you’ve read about him but it is quite interesting.
Fly, Thank you for the Link. Vicker is correct that it all starts in Asia. But my thesis form April of 2009 has been that it will stop when China Govt sells Copper and thus ending the copper bubble they created in March of 2009…..it’s just taking forever to have this happen so I can confirm my analysis….yet over the past decade this pattern has been correct and the normal tipping point comes about normally at this level…just pull up a 5 chart of copper. China knows what a crazy Black Swan it will cause with the announcing of NO more Treasuries…would be really surprised if they went that route cuz Commodities have been their normal method, fwiw.
Glen beck is a little nutz and dramatic , but I hate to admit most the stuff he talks about is true.
Real Nice to hear your back on your game Fly .
Your a stubborn guy you know, I’m one too but try not let if affect trading as best I can , tough separating personality with profession sometimes being stubborn is good though lol.
Good luck going forward man , the Chinese Lottery sounds fun to me .
I’m about to have the Rancher’s Special at the Cowboy Cafe. Four eggs over easy, breakfast potatoes, four sausage links, four strips of crisp bacon, and two slices of Texas toast—washed down with black Dark Canyon coffee. (viz. my effing twitter acct is not tweeting properly)
Err, OK, “I Like”. My Facebook is not facebooking properly 🙂
That sounds delicious. Enjoy it.
Alpha, what are you trading these days? You are too quite, visit more in the PPT please!
Cheers,
Bob
bob,
been holding GLD, SLV, XLB, GOOG. SCCO, LDK, CENX, and emerging market equities and ETFs. Just sold out my portion of EMs that were levered, but still holding the rest. Dollar at support right now, so we may get a correctioj.
Stay with EM equities long term, gold and commodities and commodity related stocks.
I’ll post more in PPT later this weekend.
Cheers!
I used to watch GB more and appreciate him now letting more folks know about what is really going on behind the current. Like any news, it helps if you can weed out some of the polarizations to get a truly “fair and balanced” view.
Thanks Fly, keep em comin’.
End the Fed, Save the Dollar: Ron Paul
If you see my dog driving past your house, tell him i will have dinner done shortly.
And it better be good- from my iPhone.
2006 They Said House Prices Could Never Go Down….2010 They Say Stock Prices Can Never Go Down because the Fed is there for it. So, please ask China, France, Brazil, S Korea, etc to get together all ready and tell USA that we Don’t Need Your Stinking Dollars….blah, blah….collapse of the Commodities trade. You know what is darn interesting, China Govt selling Zinc next week…Al coming too…..when they sell Copper and announce they won’t continue their Cash for Clunkers that expires in Dec, I should have my 1929, which is taking like forever…FWIW, this last week really shook me up because I really had a mistaken belief that Ben understood the global damage that he would be doing with QE2 and would tone it down after the last G20 meeting. Today Timmy G is trying to tell everyone that USA supports a Strong Dollar…if the Asian Conf had Pizza, they should throw it at his face.
Nah…….I think Timmy and Ben really do support a strong dollar. The only minor detail being that they support it (a strong dollar) only after they have ripped the guts out of every other major currency…….just a minor thing really………..albeit one that no person on the Fed or US treasury would admit to.
lol, true….Hoenige comes close, sadly he doesn’t vote next year.
Partying in Charlotte tonite!!! At the Crowne plaza downtown to see the Saints whip the Panthers ass tommorrow!! Any IBCr’s holla!!!!

Saturday evening musings with a cup of Timothy’s Italian roast and some home made carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. About a half an inch thick………
…………..I keep thinking that this verse from the Bible has numerous areas where it could be applied in the banking and financial realms as of late.
“Like a dog that returns to his vomit
is a fool who repeats his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11)
It could very well apply to the state of California in their re-election of Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer and Maxine Waters.
The verse might also be something for previous investors in GM to bear in mind lest they be tempted in the upcoming IPO. I have spoken with probably a half dozen people in the last few weeks who drove GM cars and trucks forever and are now behind the wheel of something with a Blue Oval on it. To a person they said their main reason for the brand switch was the bailouts. There is more of this sentiment out there than one thinks. John Q Public is pissed. At least in these parts………..plus the fact that Ford is kicking ass and taking names as of late.
Had a broker friend call me about an unsolicited bid for $4-6 million in shares. I said — “why not just have that guy write me a check?”
Jackass thinks he can play “IPO Pop” like its’ 1997 all over again.

Check out Elvis Costello’s latest album cover. It would be quite at home on iBC. Even R.W Pelican makes an appearance…
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/11/elvis-costello-national-ransom/
Saw that too. Loved the Pelican but wondered what the heck the symbolism was there.
