Jeff Bezos just announced the second prong to his erosion of margins plan–Amazon says they’re launching their Prime service in China.
“The launch of Prime in China represents a new convenient way for Chinese customers to access authentic and quality products from all over the world,” Greg Greeley, Amazon Prime’s vice president, said in a statement emailed to Reuters on Friday.
The company has struggled to gain a foothold in China; most likely because Chinese internet is retarted and censored. However, Bezos is doing another one of his shipping schemes, where members can buy-in to free shipping:
Under the Prime service, Chinese shoppers would pay 388 yuan ($57.23) for a year-long subscription, which would give them access to unlimited free international shipping on orders over 200 yuan ($29.50).
It might work. It seems most wares come from China, so the draw of free international shipping is somewhat confusing. Do the finished goods ship to the United Steaks, sit in a warehouse, then ship back to China after being ordered?
Perhaps for now, but everyone knows the Bezos brand of distribution center, teaming with robots and absent of low-skilled human labor, will eventually infiltrate the shores of our red ally.
Bullish unless ultimately broken by the stringent rules of communist-branded capitalism.
