Things are getting a bit hot around the world.
Increased activity in Syria. Russia is scaling back troop deployment but these are being replaced by Iranian military. Increased activity by the PKK (Kurdistan) and Turkey in the north of Syria. Israel getting more belligerent.
The Republic of South Ossetia + The State of Alania (previously part of Georgia) is to hold a referendum in July on becoming a part of Russia. This region is another flash point – on the Black Sea just to the north of Turkey. The remaining bits of Georgia, like Ukraine, have turned to the United States for support. They may learn, like Ukraine, that this is a fatal mistake.
I wondered all along if the pause by Russia was related to Orthodox Easter which is the most important religious celebration of the Orthodox faith. This year it fell on April 24-25, but there were 40 days of fasting and 7 days for “Lazarus Week” prior. Just speculating though.
Moscow is the current centre of the Orthodox faith, with an intent to return it to a restored Christian Constantinople. No doubt there will be great celebrations at Hagia Sophia when this happens.
Now Biden has just done the equivalent of lighting a match in a Chinese fireworks factory. White House spox are trying to walk it back.
But Ukrainian officials are claiming that the US is laying plans to destroy the Russian fleet that is currently blockading the Black Sea ports of southern Ukraine and Moldova. This won’t go down well in the Kremlin.
And of course Finland and Sweden have said “we’re going to join NATO, but don’t worry Russia, we won’t allow their military bases here”. LOL.
How long can this go on before somebody crosses a red line and starts a hot war?
Oh I forgot to mention that Russia is currently rolling out production the Sarmat (Satan 2) ICBM, which reportedly will render all US missile defense technology obselete – for perhaps 50 years or more.
