How Was Your New Year’s Festivities?

Is your head still spinning?

When I was a kid, we used to spend the evening at my grandfather’s house and hit on pots and pans when the ball dropped, hollering and yelling like wild animals. When I was a teenager, I used to go with my retarded friends to the city or somewhere else, which usually included large amounts of alcohol. As an adult, I started the tradition of staying home, cooking a nice meal, and drinking champagne — and also blowing horns and making loud savage like sounds.

Last night was no different — seafood dinner, champagne, horns, and then some teevee. I usually like watching an episode or two of the Honeymooners or Twilight Zone. In an attempt to switch it up last night, I bore witness to the worst show on Netflix: Black Mirror, which was an absolute abomination.

The kids are lamenting the fact that school starts tomorrow and I’m here studying the market.

What did you folks do last night; go anywhere exotic?

Love Peaky Blinders — been on it for years — but I have not seen seasons 3,4.

Black mirror dropped way off when Netflix took over. The first and best episode I ever watched was white Christmas. Peaky Blinders is great but sliding too. Gold for the win

“What did you folks do last night; go anywhere exotic?”

Here at the Devil Dog corporation, I (Mr Devil Dog) did the only thing any sane man could do: namely, opened shorts in all major US indexes, awaiting an imminent crash to the world’s financial system. Look, while you all indulge in idle New Year revelries, I am here to tell you that you are about to lose all your money and much more besides.

    Consider yourselves warned !

Young man, let me explain: the Federal Reserve will soon be out of money and the banks insolvent… a downturn here would be the opening salvo into a sequence of events that will turn Americans against one another, into outright bloody revolution, leading to the eventual and inexplicable failure of the United Steaks of America.

        Good day.

I too made a nice meal for the both of us but no champagne (sparkling red grape juice- big drinkers). We saw the kids and grandkids within the last six weeks (one lives in Pacific NW and the other in NYC). When the kids were home we always stayed home together eating and watching a movie on teeveee until the NYC ball dropped.
I actually laid down on the bed about 10:30 PM (new bed- mattress in a box, didn’t even knew it existed until a few weeks ago) for just a few minutes and before I knew it I woke up about 12:30 AM and saw that my wife fell asleep in the chair with the teevee on.
    That was it.

Hosting uncouth relatives with bad accents from the frozen north for an entire week. Cooked and ate/drank thousands of dollars of food and booze including 5 bottles of Grand Marnier and 4 cases of La Marca prosecco in the last 4 days alone. Now they’re all bitching that it’s dropping into the 50’s here for the next few days. Last year I sign on for this shit. My brother in law made a big deal of slipping me 2 hundreds as a contribution, I told him that covered less than 48 minutes of debauchery.

Straight up after meals but went into margaritas and a big thermos of perfect storms for the beach one day. Try it in hot chocolate sometime, fucking outrageously good.

Dinner and a movie (no Movie Pass) with the Mrs. Saw “All The Money In The World”, an embellishment of the J. Paul Getty hostage story.

Got out in time for the NYE edition of HQ.

Went out to eat at a local higher end restaurant on a golf course with a couple we are very close to and we greatly enjoy being with.
My wife, myself and the husband in the other psi were high school classmates.
I had grouper and my better half had a crusted chicken breast with a minced almond frangelico based sauce.
The other couple enjoyed thinly sliced primed rib sautéed in a mushroom wine stock and smoked BBQ ribs.
It was all very good. We chatted for a couple hours after dinner then each to their own homes through the frigid whiteness this winter has become.
A couple of Stella’s for me when we got home and a glass of Leelanau red for the Mrs and we went to bed without watching any of the debauchery in Times Square…intent on creating our own.
The thought of Mariah Carey and Brittany Spears both appearing, scantily clad, in sub freezing temperatures was just about enough to quell any flames of passion so we left the TV off.
