Emmy award winning storm chaser, Jeff Piotrowski, just did a gloomy Periscope, warning people to evacuate Florida, saying a storm of this magnitude will lay waste to wherever it hits.
“You don’t want to experience it. I promise you.When your house starts coming apart and your buildings and walls start collapsing, the boards start punching through the house like torpedoes, like missiles — it’s unbelievable what’s going to happen.”
Having experienced some of the major hurricanes in person, Jeff painted a grim picture of roof tops being torn off, both house and hotels, windows blowing out up to 15 to 20 stories highs — power failures and ‘catastrophic’ damage that will take months to repair.

Well, there are two possibilities here:
1. You are smarter and better an analyzing data and science than Hawking, Degrasse-Tyson and other genius scientists
2. You are a moron

He’s correct because a large percentage of people live in poorly built structures, and many homes are sited near large trees. Unless it was purpose built to survive, many residences built in the last 40 years will not.
You need poured concrete walls with re-bar, or concrete block CMU walls entirely filled with concrete and lots of re-bar. No gables. No trees within falling distance.
I know the codes are not a strict up here, but house construction here is a joke. They make a nice concrete base, then stack cardboard, plastic and metalized tape on top, supported by the least expensive framing permitted. Top it off with a 500 K asking price.
