Buchanan is correct in assessing the purpose and danger of the Special Counsel. But he is wrong in his assessment of the remedy. This time is different, the MSM has lost credibility and Trump is not a lifelong politician. He’s unpredictable and working outside the box. Bring private sector discipline to your Office, Mr President.
Here is one an out-of-the-box solution that is within his authority to action:
1. Set a new employment policy/procedure that holds Managers/Supervisory staff throughout all Executive Branch department and functions directly liable for:
a. any leaks or breaches of security that occur within their workforce.
b. engaging in, or demonstrating by their actions, conflicts of interest.
c. extreme partisanship, of any kind, be it Republican, Democrat or other.
d. actions that are in contradiction to their oath(s) of their office.
2. Put together a Presidential Commission for Fairness, Ethics and Security, and with Special Independent Investigators in each EB department to assess compliance with this policy. Assess every single member of the Management team, from the top down.
3. Persons found in breach of these policies will be subject to instant dismissal with negative summaries of employment. If the breaches are considered sufficiently egregious, legal prosecution will follow.
Human Resources on steroids to clean up the entire Executive Branch. Who could object to that?
Trump also needs make the case that high government turnover (ie that DC staff are not tenured and must be competent and unbiased) is the new normal. This is the only way to demonstrate to the American people that the government works for them, not the other way around.
If the AGs office and Mueller gets caught up in this process, so be it. They work solely at the their Sovereign’s pleasure, that being the American people, and Trump is the Sovereign’s legally elected representative.
