Isn’t WFAN pretty much true to sports? No doubt Christie will attract an audience, but eventually he will need to talk sports, unless WFAN intends to go in a different direction.
My bet is WFAN will not go in a different direction. They might pair Christie with a credible sports talk co-host. Or wait a decent interval and move him to a weekend show.
Continuing the thought- the co-host should be politically opposite from Christie.
I actually listen to WFAN several times a week in the early AM while I have breakfast and he has subbed on the Boomer and Carton radio show a number of times. He is knowledgeable about sports and is entertaining. Putting aside his political background he would be a good sports radio person. He has the New Yawk attitude and can fire back at the caller when needed.
One more comment- Christie may have no intention of taking this gig, even if it were offered to him. Media may be a stepping stone to elected office. It may be a way for a retired or losing candidate to earn a living and maintain visibility.
I think Christie sees this as a way to speak to some of his base, and disrespect the media simultaneously. “you guys are nothing, losers. I can come in here and do what you do, no problem”
The media generally fails when they try to fight a political battle. Most politicians cannot make it in media. Donald Trump is an notable exception.
