Incredulously, our Sec. of State, Rex Tillerson, just did a presser, announcing the Trump administration was doing a ‘comprehensive review’ on Iran, followed by a lot of saber rattling.
“The Trump administration is currently conducting across the entire government a review of our Iran policy … an unchecked Iran has the potential to follow the same path as North Korea and take the world along with it. The United States is keen to avoid a second piece of evidence that strategic patience is a failed approach.”
The entire speech was filled with ridiculous anecdotal evidence, ‘proving’ how evil Iran was — such as a photograph of a bomb scrawled with ‘Death to Israel’ on it. Clearly, that sort of graffiti and hate speech is unacceptable. We ought to go with war with them now.

Tillerson droned on, tediously reminding the world how fucked up Iran was and how it was the job of the United States to police it — instead of ‘passing the buck’ down to future administrations.
Nothing says ‘America first’ like policing the shittiest parts of the planet — all for the sake of proving American is tough again. Since we already destroyed most of the middle east, I suppose another war or two won’t kill too many. We might as well do it — providing it could stop the Iranians from saying ‘death to Israel’, menacing our boats in the Persian gulf, and annoying our good friends in Saudi Arabia by trying to sponsor more terrorists than them.

Wow, I’ll bet Putin has buyer’s remorse after buying Trump and Tillerson. Unless Tillerson is just bs’ing, which is entirely possible. After all, Trump’s conflict with Syria consisted of bombing an air base without even taking out the air strips, and Assad’s base was back up the next day, bombing the same city, but without using gas.
So maybe this is just saber rattling leading to this “comprehensive review” and then leading to nothing whatsoever. We can only hope. Putin likes Iran, just like he likes Syria. But Iran is clearly a better place at the moment, as their leader is not killing thousands of his own people and destroying his own cites, resulting in millions of refugees fleeing to other parts of the world that are not prepared to deal with them.

So far, Trump has done quick isolated bombings. The one in Syria did no significant damage. I don’t know about the one in Afghanistan. For all we know, DT is just playing tough guy for a few hours and that will be the end of it. That is my hope, anyway. But he is unpredictable, so there is no telling what he’ll do next.

I only know 2 people who are Muslim. One is a teller at my bank. She doesn’t wear anything on her head and is as modern as anyone else there and a nice person.
The other is a Sufi, which is the most tolerant and open and free branch of the Muslim religion– sort of like Unitarians are to Christians. He teaches meditation classes, is a psychotherapist, and is one of the three ministers of different faiths who speak at an interfaith church in Seattle. One of the most peace loving people I have ever met.

What a shame. A lot of what I’ve seen on TV shows the people of Iran as polite and welcoming. the youth especially. Anthony Bourdain, Rick Steves are 2 example programs. We should separate the government from the people in this case… just we often wind up asking other nations to do with us.
