What to Expect Next in Markets and in Syria

Things are moving pretty rapidly, but I’m a fast consumer of information and have been processing everything to conclude what might occur next. By all accounts, whether you agree with it or not, the Trump administration has gone ‘all in’ on taking out Assad. I know it doesn’t appear that way now, after a few dozen cruise missiles made a crash landing in Syria last night; but it’s gonna happen.

Trump, through Nikki Haley, will pursue an ‘international coalition’ and begin making demands, which will either be ceded to or military operations will be pursued. Northern Syria will be designated a ‘safe zone’, placing US assets on the ground, so that we can build a base there. Using that logic, if Trump is open to the idea of intervening with military assets to protect innocents in Syria, it’s entirely possible he will also change his mind on accepting Syrian refugees.

More or less, Russia will do nothing — as long as they could keep their bases in the Mediterranean.

Look for these actions to lead to a reversal of the deal Obama made with Iran, which could spark a furious rally in crude.

I don’t believe anything we’ve seen can hurt stocks, unless Russia intervenes. I do, however, believe it has created a reason to get long treasuries and gold. Also, by placating the neocons and democrat war mongers and Russia-phobes, Trump might be able to get more done in terms of tax reform, healthcare and infrastructure.

We will not be building a wall. Don’t even think about it.

The uniparty of war requires sacrifice by way of blood and clay. Trump has given it to them and is now part of the club.

I agree that he may get more from his new friends ..both in congress and from the spending facilitators at the FED. More spending, tax cuts, and easy money. Ultimately, inflation should be helped by Trump’s betrayal and I will look to fade the initial move into treasuries.

Terror attack in Stockholm isn’t even getting a mention, overshadowed by events in Syria. Interesting times, Mr. Fly.

I saw a pic of a regular dude sliced in three parts with his guts pressed by tire tracks laying lifeless in the Stockholm streets! The thing that got me was that the jeans he was wearing were not tough enough to prevent the sheering cutting action of the tire’s momentum. Extra Allah Akbar! How mother fucking disgusting!!!

I disagree. The “attack” last night was nothing but a symbolic one that amounted to a slap on the wrist. The Syrian military had prior warning and removed anything of value from the airbase. Trump gets to look tough like he has balls in front of the World, while Russia pretends to be outraged and makes empty threats of war. It is all theatre and will go no further.
