US secretary of state Rex Tillerson said Russia bore responsibility for its handling of the 2013 deal that was supposed to remove Assad’s chemical weapons stockpile:
They would act as the guarantor that these weapons would no longer be present in Syria. Clearly Russia has failed in its responsibility to deliver on that commitment from 2013.
Either Russia has been complicit or Russia has been simply incompetent in its ability to deliver on its end of that agreement.
Tillerson said there had been “no discussions” with Moscow before or since the strike.
But the Pentagon confirmed that Russia – a key Assad ally – had been informed in advance of the strike through military channels:
Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike using the established deconfliction line.
The Pentagon also said it believes the strike has “severely damaged or destroyed Syrian aircraft and support infrastructure”.
so the Pentagon and the Secretary of Sate are either not in contact or one of them is not truthful?
Probably not in contact. This administration lies a lot. But there would be no point in lying about this. Just makes them look foolish and non-communicative– as they are, apparently.

Anyway, apparently Trump continues to be good buddies with Putin, making sure that the attack doesn’t hurt Russian forces, as Trump attacks Russia’s ally Assad. Maybe that is okay, really. It wasn’t Russia that used chemical weapons on babies. It was Assad.
Let’s hope this is the end of this story now and that Assad stops using chemical weapons on his people.
And that the U.S. stays out of Syria from here on out.
There was not supposed to be any chemical weapons available in Syria. This is a pretty big failure to contain these types of weapons. Brings to mind another deal we did with Iran. I’m pretty sure their nuclear weapons program continues. The moment we find out they have a nuclear weapon on a missle, what will we do?

The New Zealand Government has responded to the US missile attacks on a Syrian airbase, saying that American intervention was understandable given the lack of action by the United Nations Security Council.
Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully said this afternoon it was becoming clear that Syrian Government forces were responsible for “outrageous” attacks in which chemical weapons were used.
“These events are horrific,” he said in a statement. “It is critical that the international community emphatically demand an end to this violence, and that the Syrian government be held to account.”
“In the absence of an adequate response from the United Nations Security Council, we can understand why the United States has taken targeted unilateral action to try and prevent further such attacks by the Syrian regime.”
