This probably helps him more than it hurts. By having an open ‘civil war’ with the republican speaker, it all but assures he can oust him if elected. Also, Ryan is widely regarded as an establishment republican, loyal to his 2012 running mate, Mitt Romney.
Ryan never supported Trump. He only held his tongue because it was politically expedient. After the Trump scandal hit, Ryan took that opportunity to denounce the Donald. This might end up backfiring on him.
