His hair is looking real wavy in that photograph, no? Bill Ackman responds to EXTREME shit talking out of the mouths of HLF. I was floored when I read their statement, regarding Ackman’s short position. It’s the vernacular of a guilty person.

How can a person be so wrong and yet people trip over each other to have his firm take their money? His HLF short is nuts.
See the previous thread. Facts and reality only give people headaches. They need to believe in whomever and whatever they need to believe in.
When HLF said “valiant try”, one can only hope that the content was carefully selected to twist the knife.

This bears repeating since investors have short memories. Ackman already has blown up a hedge fund. It was Gotham Partners in the 90s. Ancient history, yes, I know.
Here’s an observation on the fund as it was closing: “An examination of Gotham’s activities in recent years shows a series of ill-timed bets, a surprising lack of diversification and a dangerous concentration in illiquid investments that could not easily be sold when investors wanted their money back.” (NY Times) Along with Ackman’s stubborn double-down tactic when things went sour.
Sort of sounds like your typical retail investor.
So here’s what I don’t understand:
Valiant is similar to Herbalife in that neither company is a business in the sense of filling a market need and benefitting the economy.
Valiant’s business model was just buying up other drug companies.
Herbalife’s business mdoel is recruiting members and selling to them.
Both can be profitble, but society and the economy would probably do better if neither existed.
As a purely business/profit move, short HLF is a loser as the gov’t is not going to take down the MLM business model anytime soon, no matter how much damage it does to the lower and middle class.
So why is Ackerman takign the moral high ground by shorting HLF, even while going long a company like Valeant, who’s ethics are different but not better?
