In spite of the fact the last man who ‘allegedly’ landed on the moon, with calculator technology, was in 1972, Elon Musk said he was going to send ‘human cargo’ to Mars by 2024.
I know, doubting the fact that we ever landed on the moon, or that Stanley Kubrick created and directed the lunar landing hoax, is just nonsensical rabble. Plus anyway, so many other nations have travelled through the Van Allen radiation belt since then.
Oh, that’s right, no one has actually ever done that, since 1972.
SpaceX and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk will send a mission to Mars — on the Flying Dragon version 2 rocket —starting in 2018 and launch a rocket headed there at every open opportunity — every 26 months.
“It is intended to carry astronauts to the International Space Station,” said Musk at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. on Wednesday night. “But we are going to send one to Mars in 2018.”
But that’s not the biggest ambition. If everything goes according to plan, the first rocket carrying human cargo will launch in 2024, he said.
The Flying Dragon 2 has the interior size of an SUV and is capable of carrying up to seven people and will take 18 months to get there.
Musk sees multi-planetary future as ‘exciting and inspiring’
“I would not recommend traveling to Mars in that,” he said. “It would be a long time to spend on an SUV.”More importantly, perhaps: “It also does not have the capability to get back to earth, we put that in the fine print,” he said.
“If you’re going to choose a place to die, then Mars is not a bad choice,” he said.
Musk would not reveal too much about his Mars colonization plans, but plans to present his architecture for Mars colonization at the International Astronautical Congress conference in September, he said.
Where do I sign up? I’d like to die on Mars.

We have a vacant Mars here on Earth already. It’s called the Middle East.
But where oh where could we find migrant hordes to populate such a faraway, deserted place?
It’s all becoming clear:
1) Send migrant hordes into Europe and the US.
2) Send Westerners to Mars.
The migrant hordes are going to go somewhere, until the day when the places where they came from have some degree of stability– enough that they no longer fear for their lives on a daily basis and where they can have homes that are not being reduced to rubble by war.
Sometimes I wish Musk and other creative folks would focus on how to have world peace or at least stability, rather than on going to Mars. Maybe they think that getting to Mars would be easier than world peace or stability.
But the world has actually gotten less violent and more peaceful, especially when you look at the time frame of centuries. So we are actually part of the way there. Here is a good book on the subject.
The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined Sep 25, 2012

Clearly he’s anticipating that it’s only our virtual selves that will be able to survive, and only by leaving this planet. These human bodies are so damn frail and cumbersome.
You’ll never convince me to take a ride in a Musk-machine

I nominate all the Bernie Sanders supporters as the first wave of colonists. They can setup their egalitarian paradise without interference from us normies … or die terrible deaths in the cold void of space.
You know…
Win-win.
I nominate supporters of whatever politician you support then.
Comrade Frog doesn’t approve of humor. In Comrade Frog’s space colony all those who insult Dear Leader are sentenced to hard labor and jettisoned into space after their sentence is completed.
Most political humor is only funny to people who have the same political views you have. Most people, of any political stripe, do not find it funny to be bashed, or to be told they are far more extreme than they actually are.
Right Wingers love to refer to people who are slightly Left of Center as “Comrade” and to claim that such folks would enjoy Soviet Communism. If I am a Communist, then you must be a Mussolini follower or a Hitler follower. Do you find that funny?
Instead Musk could turn his considerable talent to finding a way to persuade people to practice zero population growth.
Now there’s an idea whose time has come. If people aren’t going to use fewer resources, then have less people. Only it might be as challenging as getting to Mars, because one would have to battle religious fundamentalists who are against family planning. And one would also have to battle poverty and ignorance, because poor uneducated people have more kids, partly due to there being lower odds of each one surviving to adulthood.
However, that last part is not really so hard, if you put money into it. When people get educated, they have fewer kids, everywhere, e.g. in rual India, all kinds of places. Providing education is easier than battling fundamentalism, at least in places where the government and people will accept educational assistance.
I’d be fine dying in Florida, looking at Mars. And Orion my childhood night friend, who has been waiting all along.
Yes, the sky is wonderful. People who don’t spend much time looking at the clouds during the day, or the constellations and planets at night, are really missing out.
Clearly this is all a smoke screen so investors forget the their SpaceX , Tesla Motors, and Solar City stocks are all wildly overvalued.
