Saturday Cinema with Le Fly: Inglorious Basterds

Since I am still in the land of Jefferson Davis, I felt it was incumbent upon me to log my Saturday cinema post now, since I will be busy gallivanting (no homo) about the town tomorrow. I’ve always enjoyed southern hospitality, sopping up their biscuits and gravy with my money.

Speaking of which, I lost some during Friday’s trading session, about 0.5%. I was spared a worser fate thanks to my two largest positions, CYBR and CRM, being up. However, when long 30+ stocks, you tend to absorb the cross-section of the overall tape, which led to my losing of the money. Nevertheless, I find myself within 1% of annual highs and up about 30% for the year. Clearly, I am in a position of bold dominance, highlighted by my most recent sales of AAPL above $131 and ONCE north of $71.

To be clear and to the point: I am bowling on you pinheads as violently as the day is long.

Now to my movie of the week: Inglorious Basterds. Holy shit what a film.

This is a Quentin Tarantino film. I was introduced to his work with Pulp Fiction and was hooked immediately. He’s had other gems, like Dusk to Dawn, Grindhouse (extra stuntman mike) and most recently Django. But this is probably my favorite one of them all, probably because of the absurdity of the German people, coupled with the coolness of Colonel Hans Landa of the SS, aka “The Jew Hunter” and his insistence that Shoshanna (sp?) wait for the fucking creme before eating her strudel.

Let’s not forget Brad Pitt’s role as American apache/Nazi killer, leading a band of American soldiers to scalp as many Nazi bastards as possible.

Fucking outrageously hilarious film, a real family treat.

While you’re on war movies have you seen the foreign film “Seven Beauties”? Quite a rollercoaster ride emotionally but well worth a watch if you haven’t.

I was hoping you’d get to Quentin Tarantino. I never understood Tarantino (except for “Dusk ’til Dawn”. Then I had a truly glorious film experience and something of an epiphany. Violence is so easy. Mr Tarantino should get down on his knees and weep before the art of Refn and his masterpiece “Only God Forgives”.

Christoph Waltz was epic in that film .. and the Pitt wasn’t too shabby as well, not to mention the rest of them .. naturally, considering what really went down, a ridiculous fantasical narrative meant to cheaply tug at heart strings like Django or Braveheart
