I’ve been coming here everyday since 2007, yet most of you are still obscure, seemingly ill-tempered, wastrels, boozing around town–coming here to extoll the virtues of cannabalism. From what I’ve gathered, we have a ‘confirmed lunatic’ pharmacist, a slum-lord of trailer homes, and some retired attorney who now spends his time, idly, determining ways to kill off the wildlife on his Floridian property, walking about these halls–gawking at the paintings.
I’ve met only one reader of the site, since the beginning, a gentleman aussie, fellow manager of other people’s money. He was quite nice and I did enjoy his company.
But who the hell are the rest of you? I imagine some of you have worthy careers, perhaps a malpractice prone physician or blue-collared attorney, running about town–chasing down ambulances. From a foggy memory, I recall a few brokers, one or two hedge fund managers, and a slew of third rate programmers, failed entrepreneurs, mixed in with a little 19th century-esque abled bodied engineers, who spend their days researching inane patent troll companies.
So the question remains, and demands to be answered: WHO THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE AND WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Had a commercial litigation type practice for some 20 years (represented hospitals suing insurance cos. for payment) and built up a nice account trading from nothing beginning in 1981 or so.

In former life I pillaged the earth exploring for oil (Petroleum Geologist) so that the likes of SLCA and HAL could flourish. No lifetime achievement awards forthcoming though, I did well, retired early to do other things.

I enjoyed years of daily posting on stockpickr, and the ‘group thought’ open forum was of immense help, but the release of writing whatever the fu** I thought, and responding however the fu** I thought, was such a therapeutic release it was unexplainable. Now I go to SA occasionally, here occasionally, and still turn CNBC very low as backround noise. That is when I am trading, as I have become more and more, because of my job, a true intraday trader, that trades perhaps 2 full days a week and as allowed any time else. But I generally trade on my own. Back from my digressing, I am, to directly answer the Fly’s question, I am here for the entertainment and rarely (but sometimes) for ideas. I had a good run at my day job, without which I wouldn’t have gotten close enough to my number to want to do the rest on my own. The weirdest things I’ve learned in the time I’ve been on my own is that without customers, bosses, deadlines or deliverables, my stress levels have dropped to the point where my friends have commented about how relaxed I am. Banking or losing coin, 300-point days or 20-point days, nailing trades or missing moves, I never find it boring.
I still have a few years to go before I age out of these noble halls, and I’m slowly earning the rest of my number the old-fashioned way: by watching little green and red letters and numbers flitting about on my screen.

Started my own RIA firm last year after leaving a large bank wirehouse firm (dinosaur), they made me sell TSLA in my client accounts right before the big move last spring. My wife works hard and is successful. I am hoping to learn more about trading the markets as my 7 year hot streak got destroyed last year. Love the community here and your daily musings. Sorry man, I’m not supposed to be reading this cause I’m 71 but I’m still surfing 10 foot waves. Retired EE just figuring out how to make money on stocks by following you judiciously.. it only took a few years since I’m a bit slow. Didn’t get my EE till I was 40. Playing is so fun.
