I can’t get mad at Obama for abandoning Iraq. It’s like getting mad at crazy Dicky for leaving Vietnam. The Iraq war was bullshit to begin with. Just because 5,000 soldiers died and our treasury was fleeced by contractors to the tune of $1 trillion during “the war years” doesn’t mean we should defend those bastards indefinitely. I find it abhorrent to read the statements of our chicken hawk politicians who want war, perpetually.
Is one American solider worth a grain of Iraqi soil? I say no and to hell with them.
As an aside, I find it suspiciously convenient that oil prices are jacking higher because of the conflict. Did they go lower when we liberated Iraq? Has the price of oil budged, at all, since the 2008 crisis? It is a tax people. The price of oil is funding a lot of politics. They will keep the price above $100 for as long as possible. They know US production is on the rise and current prices are unsustainable because of it. I’m gonna stop right here because I hate getting into conspiracies.
Stocks traded down. Airlines took a few line drives to the scrotum, setting up for a buy the dip opportunity. And, Le Fly shed 0.2% on the day. I had been up more than 1% at the highs of the day.

My bro-in-law family helped to capture Saddam. He fled the country as a child. They still have family stuck in that hell, and he is an amazing, tax paying human who was once a child surrounded by bombs and torture of that shitbag saddam. No ..to me life is valuable whatever country you were born in…blood is blood. The only life not valuable are murderers, pedo’s.

I remember when Iraq invaded Kuwait, gasoline prices ramped up. After the whole Desert Shield/Storm thing wrapped up, ‘Regular’ Leaded dropped under $1.00 for a while. I always viewed that as some sort of consolation prize for the Americans cleaning that shit up. We don’t seem to get such rewards these days. Of course, war & American casualties aren’t the headlines they once were, either.

I had some friends in ‘Nam and I came within 8 or so numbers of getting drafted.
I was in college and they did away with student deferments as they needed bodies as Laos and Cambodia was heating up.
Most of us sat in front of a TV (one of three channels) as they pulled ping pong balls out with the numbers and a birthdate on same. We all put a $1 into the pot and the one with the lowest number kept the $$.
As an aside my roommate decided to be a draft dodger and his Mom called me letting me know.
He (Ron) was a funny guy but he had this huge afro (black guy) and I kept finding his curly hairs all over the room, especially after he used his ‘fro pic.
Before my time, but I’ve always thought that those draft lotteries sounded horrible. Almost like a gallows game show… I work w/ a Vietnam Vet that swears his platoon was taken aside and told to not fire at the enemy in North Vietnam, if the took cover in certain fields of trees. Those trees were Rubber Trees, and owned by Goodyear. They had made the specific request.

I was in the military during the Vietnam war but never served in Vietnam itself. I visited Vietnam three years ago and in their literature the war was known as the “American war”.
The oil sellers figure out the nexus of maximum revenue given the demand curve. How many gallons sold at $4? How many at $3? How many at $5? Where do you reap the most profits?
Fortunately for oil companies crude oil is fairly inelastic. There is definitely a point though where consumers decide they aren’t going to buy that “discretionary” gallon of gas and just buy absolutely what they have to have for work, etc.
Nobody knows what that fucking war was about but the best theory is that Cheney was pissed that that they didn’t chase Saddam all the way back to Baghdad back in the early 90’s, so this was his chance to do it his way.

I stopped watching sports when I became an adult
couldn’t imagine no hockey myself. As for the others – my focus has switched a lot from the pro NY teams to my Gators, but I suppose that all depends upon the sports culture where you went to school. I do mainly only closely follow my NY teams around playoff time. Although if we by some miracle make it to senior citizenship, sports may be one of the few remaining pleasures that can be truly enjoyed without a thrown out back or indigestion.
