What a milquetoast close.
I do not consider this a vital trading session, since we’ve been through a lot over the past two weeks. Cowards got flat into the long weekend. It could’ve been a lot worse.
On the constructive side:
Analysts are out pumping growth names hard again.
Treasuries got smacked today.
It doesn’t sound like Putin will invade Ukraine any time soon.
Earnings have been impressive, thus far.
As far as my positions are concerned: FEYE is in such a depression. It’s hard to believe this is the same stock touted by a certain analyst as a “once in a decade opportunity.” The street could not get enough of its shares; now no one wants them. Singular indeed.
I sold half of my WDAY position, for a loss, and have begun allocating into YELP.
I was flat for the day, -22.5% for the year.
I am down 28.3% in FEYE, -10.44% in YELP (after today’s adds) and -16.4% in SPLK. I expect to eliminate the entirety of my WDAY position over the next two weeks. It’s down 18% from my basis.
Ideally, YELP sprints higher, I sell my lower basis shares and swap into SPLK, then with the profits from SPLK, load up on FEYE for the grande finale. If I can pull this off, it will be one of my greatest turn arounds ever.

I wished I had Yelp back in those days. Would have saved me from eating at a lot of shitty restaurants while traveling.
og – ‘out of town’ is when I use Yelp the most. It’s a great service. Whenever I Google any business I’m interested in patronizing, Yelp is always one of the top results. People want to read reviews, and not eat crummy meals…
Yeah, I was afraid Google+ / Zagat would be a Yelp killer, but the reviews are horrible and still don’t know anyone that uses them. A lot of reviews with just a few sentences.
Personally I use Yelp all the time for restaurants and local businesses. For hotels and some other travel info, I also use Trip Advisor.

Likely hard to quantify, but I think it helps your credibility greatly to be as open and honest about your trades, both winners and losers. There are so many frauds out there who only tout their winners and are never specific about their performance.

When in a big drawdown I often find it’s helpful for personal accounts to sell the stocks in question.
Then look at the stock(s) and decide if you want to buy it back, the same day is fine. The act of selling clears your head and allows you to make a non-bias decision.
If you buy it at that point then the trade still makes sense to stay in. Seems pointless but it’s amazing how well it works for restoring mental capital.
So you trigger a loss, and then right away null it for tax loss purposes! WTF. You know better.
We don’t have that rule here but the point is often you don’t buy the same stock back. Once your head is clear you generally find better places to put your money.
