I am going to leave this post open all night, covering the Boston terrorist event. I’m not gonna get melancholy or irrationally angry about this event. We live in a violent world, where people want to kill one another, based upon any number of reasons.
At this stage, we can only hope this is an isolated event, although there are reports that there is smoke billowing from the JFK library. If this is an orchestrated attack, expect more volatility and higher gold/silver prices.
UPDATE: Reports that two more bombs have been found near marathon and a suspicious package at train station near Harvard.

higher gold/silver prices?
yes
u cray
yes higher gold prices… did I just say that?
Probably Obama’s fault once again that cheeky kunt
Stop it
Smoke at JFK was from police setting of found device. Globe tweeted it out just prior to explosion…
I knew it, its a ploy to get the gold price up, damn them gold bugs!!
The dollar will sky rocket higher soon.
G20 meeting coming up could be the turning point for the US Dollar.
25-30 people have lost one leg or more.
Where there is life, there is hope. But one very hard journey has been started today by 25-30 people…
First 2, now seeing reports of 12 dead.
Where? Every major news station has it at 2.
It was just one report, I think it was Fox News, but it’s gone now.
Figures.
Le Fly, question, when breaking news is happening like this, what site is your #1 source for new info? Other than Twitter. News source/aggregator.
drudge, linked above
Chess beat Drudge by almost 15 minutes!
________
Your giddiness over this irrelevancy is nauseating.
Giddiness?
Fuck off, asswipe.
________
People are dead and and maimed and you’re exited that “Chess beat Drudge!” Feel free to fuck yourself…….Fucking CLOWN.
Yeah, you are just the spirit of righteousness, First Time Nobody.
What I typed was in relation to the question asked above about our newsfeeds. Try to pay attention, or better yet, get the fuck out of here.
___________
Calgary, you aren’t trying to make people feel guilty for coping differently than you, are you?
Put your butt plug back in. Self righteous douche bag.
Put your mouth plug back in, imbecile.
Clearly this is a homegrown cell. Any Al Queda signature device would have been far worse. Prayers to those whose lives have been claimed or injured. I am thankful that the numbers aren’t far worse. God Bless the USA!! Buy: USLV/UGLD I think silver bottomed at the close.
What a horrible day all around…
I was not around all day so trying to catch up….
Boston thing is all over the news, what a tragedy..
This will be the watershed event to trigger bomb-control legislation. I know the National Bomb Association will fight tooth and nail, but at a minimum congress should do a background check on anyone purchasing a bomb.
WTF is a ntl bomb assoc?
Satire, Monsieur.
_______
Most front-line video I’ve seen of the explosion … man http://live.boston.com/Event/Live_blog_Explosion_in_Copley_Square/72926110
Wow… millions of Zapruders.
______
FUCK YOU YOU GOD DAMN ARABS!!! ENOUGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brah its wass def NK. Its their guerrilla warfare tactic to pressure Foxconn to move their production facilities to NK to cut costs and help improve NK’s GDP.
Glen Beck said this earlier and I always believe him.
Be very cautious about who you try and blame for this before we know more. Chris Matthews or Bill O’Reilly are expected to put their entire belief structure, reputation and allies on the line every time anything of consequence happens. Everyone else needs to exhibit better judgement. Especially if it turns out “your side” is behind the chaos, nothing can be worse than being caught blaming somebody else.
Death by a million sound bytes…
They chose directly behind the national flags…
Happens to be the finish line too, tough…where people gather to cheer, spectate and meet up
9/11 was an inside job !!
The 8th Amendment needs to be re-written. There is no punishment that is cruel enough for these pigs.
suspect in custody… saudi national…20 years old
And it was 12 dead, according to the Post.
_________
Link??
crap.. I think it was new york post… I have to many screens open
Sorry, here’s the Post link.
_________
Wow
That was updated recently and still says 12 dead. WTH
As of around 7 my feed has vehemently denied that anyone is under custody – nor that they have any suspects.
Anyone know what’s going on?
10 amputations so far. 132 injured
Conflicting into from various source… US newscasts at 3rd world level
Obama will be pissed only because it puts a crimp in his “trash the NRA” strategy.
Watch, the silence from the White House will be deafening.
I will have to disagree with you there. Have you ever seen a camera he didn’t want to make love to?
(Properly scripted and teleprompted of course)
He will milk this for all its worth.
________
Here is the official WH response.
” 0bama expresses his concern for those who were injured and to make clear that his administration is ready to provide needed support as they respond to the incident.”
Agreed, Senator. Their M.O. is ” never let a crisis go to waste”, despite the tragedy and innocent victims.
Regrettable to be mentioning the
sad reality of the political aspect of this now.
These politicians are all the same.
At best, he is egotistical enough to think that people won’t survive without hearing his voice.
At worst, he is looking for a “9/11 bush esque” approval rating boost after a tragedy.
There is no way around it given the timing of him immediately having to get on camera as soon as he has a speech done.
Guess he could always hang out with 6 year olds reading “My Pet Goat”. Or better yet hide out in a secret bunker for months on end.
“Apparently there has been a bombing,” Biden said. “I don’t know any of the details of what caused it, who did it. I don’t think it exists yet. But our prayers are with those people in Boston who suffered injury.”
Interesting that talking heads attributed todays gold and silver selloff to the slow down in China… how seriously clueless these people are?
Very seriously.
_____
I fear these insane sickos are going to provide a news agency with false info and use fake twitter accounts to get people to call in “hotlines” that detonate one of these packages. Now seeing RT of hotlines for family members to locate family they can’t get ahold of. I believe that is why the cell phone tower in the area was shut off and police asked everyone to shut off their cell phones. Not sure if it’s resolved yet or if it’s okay to turn on phones now, pretty chaotic, but seems like exactly the devious type of plan these sickos would do.
The name “lol” isn’t appropriate, just what I’ve used on this site, so I changed it to bob for the time being.
Alex Jones has it all figured out-FALSE FLAG GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY
Holy shit, this is unbelievable… (From the above Post link):
Relatives of the victims of December’s school massacre in Newtown, Conn. were among those attending the race finish at a VIP area. It was not known of any of the relatives were among the casualties.
__________
Talk about a harbinger of doom. Makes me a little suspicious of two things.
1)Is that the phenomenon of “bad aura” may exist, the other is that they are one of those sick people that love to play the “guilt” card and pretend to be victems when they are secretly causing it. I know it’s incredibly farfetched, but so is the idea that the two biggest tragedies would have any connection to each other aside from the prime suspects.
It’s a small world, that’s the only thing going on here.
God help us all if this turns out to be some lunatic trying to make a point about gun control. The entire country will be on lockdown until all weapons are confiscated.
Thoughts and prayers to those involved and the families of the deceased.
Seems this world is becoming a more untenable place by the day.
As with us all, my sympathies go out to the victims of today’s bombing in Boston. Whoever did it is probably another insane person.
What a washout today in the stock market. After today, Fly’s recoed long term investment ETN for the year is only up 37% YTD.
I live and work within a block of the explosion. It’s a fucking mess out here. I tried to get a friend at work to grab a beer at Solas around lunch… luckily, he was swamped with work, so neither of us ended up going. Had we gone, we’d have been right there for the blast.
Marathon Monday is a widely celebrated holiday within the area, so a decent amount of my co-workers had taken the day off to be at the Marathon and/or Sox game. One of our guys was within a few hundred feet from the blast. He showed up at the offices afterward, as there was really nowhere to go. To say the least, he was shaken up. Our co-workers had reported to us what was going on, before anything was clear through the news.
I will say, all things considered, that by the time we were forced to leave our building, everyone in the city seemed composed and rational. Boston’s a tough fucking place, and most here have a thick skin. I expect, and hope, that the following days will shed light on the kindness and generosity that lays beneath the tough exterior of our city.
Glad you are well. Keep us posted.
Agreed.
may be you should blog about it… somebody from Boston should
Agree with Steak. I am in Boston Metro area and after the initial chaos, the police and regular people were very much in control and doing their best to contribute and enable first responders. Scary day.
I have to say I give enormous credit to those I saw rushing TOWARD the explosion in its immediate aftermath. Race physicians, Cops, Race security, a couple of Army guys pulling that scaffold out of the way.
Many people were running from the incident. Those people ran to see what they could do without thought of their own life or limb,
A thank you to them is not enough.
God bless ’em all.
I apologize to Fly and everyone else for my political comment earlier. It was not appropriate, and a mistake on my part.
No biggie. All is forgiven.
Was heavily offended myself by your racist comment as I am an African American myself. I accept your apology though.
Sad day. What kind of sick, cowardly fuck targets small children? Thoughts and prayers to the families of all those affected. And props to the people of Boston for dealing with this tragedy so well.
Le Fly,
Have you ever considered using Disqus for comments, so the profitable comments are upvoted and float to the top of the comments thread?
We considered that like 4 years ago.
Disqus will be adde once Jeremy finishes site upgrade
I remember the thumbs up/down that you implemented for a while which didn’t work out. But Disqus really upgrades the quality of a comment thread. Glad to hear it’s in the plans.
Any update on the Saudi national? I’ve seen mixed reports: one said he was suffering from severe burns from being close to the explosion, and was being questioned by police at a hospital.
Another report said he was instead injured when a civilian tackled him after the explosions. The civilian thought he was acting suspicious before and after the bombs went off.
I read another forum posting the Saudi 20-year was no longer a suspect.
I’m not clear what story is correct at this point.
Yup, you pretty much nailed it.
Very, very quiet out here tonight. Offices nearby are being instructed to work from home tomorrow, so as to not interfere with police. M-16 wielding men are at corners, keeping the public from the scene.
On the 5 devices found, I’m reading now that there were not 5 confirmed bombs found, just 5 suspicious packages that the BPD blew up, but were found to not be malicious.
So it’s not clear now if they found any other devices like the two that exploded earlier today.
I work a block away from the scene of the explosions. I only heard one of them buy it was loud and dont know if i just imagined it, but it felt like the building shook a little. My coworkers and i laughed nervously, not knowing what it was. Someone joked, “Should we get out of the building?” Then we all started seeing the reports come in. Outside everyone I saw close up wore stunned looks on their faces, but i didn’t see any of those that were hurt. What a sad day. That’s also the second time we’ve had a national disaster take the wind out our sails when trying to enjoy some of Le Fly’s finest chart art.
Wow, you are right. Last chart art was during school massacre.
Beware of the chart art.
It is somewhat annoying to see the media paint a picture of ongoing chaos.
Within a few minutes of the explosions, police and ambulance had surrounding areas cleared and blocked off. In a minimal time frame, ambulance vehicles were lined up outside the Fairmont Hotel on Dartmouth St. They would proceed to make a left onto Boylston, pickup those who needed to be taken to the hospital(s), then make a left onto Exeter, and finally a left back onto Huntington, were they would then haul ass to MGH, et al.. Paramedics hauled victims out in an assembly line style fashion. Given the organized response, and near proximity of the worlds best hospitals, there seems to be a very good chance that the number of lives lost remains in the single digits. Those who have never been to the event would be shocked at the density of spectators at this event. One could argue that it’s a miracle – and I use the word loosely – that the damage wasn’t greater.
Also worth noting is that largely populated squares/corners along the marathon route also had authorities dispatched to there, to inspect for threats. Friends of mine in the Brookline area mentioned that authorities had Coolidge Corner and Washington Square locked down, and were actively scanning for threats.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing whether or not they will find those responsible. Having zero background in law enforcement offers me no insight into these matters… but catching someone who may have casually planted these devices, amongst a Marathon Monday crowd, seems like a monumental challenge.
The world is a cesspool.
Sad day. Thouhts and prayers to anyone involved.
The markets will be interesting to watch the rest of the week.
ah fly let me be the first to tell you……as of the close tomorrow the CME is raising collateral requirements for all precious metals…….sleep well
The comment below is from a guy on another forum who is working as a contractor in Iraq. We can still be thankful we live in America.
” A daily occurrence over here. Today they had at least 10 bombings, 31 dead and 200 wound. Can you imagine if this was a daily or weekly occurrence anywhere in the USA.”
