What a delightful end to 2011. I particularly enjoy the erratic 140 point up and down days on no news. It’s like a summer breeze swooping in, meddled with infectious diseases.
I will not hide from you the obvious, as it is not my custom to do so. The furry boot stock that will not be named has maimed me today. Aside from that treachery, my other positions were flat to down, leading to a -2% day. This is quite severe, especially since it happened on a +140 day.
If you glanced at the general indices, one would surmise a rather lackluster year. However, those of us who trade every day understand the difficulty of this tape, which has led to the destruction of almost every single momentum stock traded, save AZO. I’ve had an unusual amount of calamities and for the most part consider myself lucky to still be alive and in the game. But this business of bouncing from one landmine to the next grows tired on me.
For the time being, despite my better judgement, I am holding onto DECK, while third rate analysts smirk, triumphantly, from their low brow chambers.
that said, thanks for the fine humor in the face of an inscrutable market. maybe our goal should be to suck less in 2012. Happy New Years to all at IBC.
Mr. Partridge often says, “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”
I thought Friedrich Nietzsche said that!?
He traded stock tips with Mr. P, and picked it up from him.
________
Nietzsche said that? I read him in college and don’t remember him being tied to that quote. That’s funny Jake…
LOL. Dude, it’s probably
a) one of the most famous quotes in the history of philosophy, and
b) the single most cliched Nietzsche quote ever.
Seriously, I have not checked this, but I bet if you googled “Nietzche quote” that is the one that comes up first.
Of course, he also made Superman big long before the comics…
______________
“Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one.”
Friedrich Nietzsche
http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Friedrich_Nietzsche
Nope you are wrong, it was Mr. Partridge who coined that phrase.
Haha, that was Nietzsche … but the clown never traded stocks, so he really never got the meaning of it…
Actually the other phrase he has was: when you look into an abyss, the abyss looks into you.. crazy 🙂
I like the one: he who has a why to live can bear almost any how…
That man did a lot of study on suffering through life.
People say Nietzsche said when a man stares into the abyss he finds his character, and it is his character which prevents him from falling into the abyss… However, I believe that was Gordon Gecco
No. It Bud’s boss and father figure, just before white collar cuffs make him cry.
But I agree with Mr. P, Nietzsche (ultimately), for all of his gravitas, a fucking clown, care taken for by his mother and sisters.
I admit, hypocritically, that he is one of my “apostles” to that I turn to. Religiously.
“Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women”
Conan D. Barbarian
“Fool me once, shame on…shame on you. Fool me…you can’t get fooled again.”
~ George W. Bush ~
I thought it was Gomer Pyle who said that and GW stole it among others.
Hank Hill (famed propane sales person) said:
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice and I’m kicking your ass”
Gomer said it…Bush “butchered” it!
LOL
My fish monger said that to me when I told her I wanted nothing to do with Chinese fish. Needless to say, I did not buy any more fish from her.
Still going to do the hedge fund this year?
Sorry, I didn’t realize you were readying a new post when I was lauding the PPT for it’s silver picking skillz…
However, many will be astounded to learn that my 2012 Stock Pick of the Year is neither a silver or gold miner.
It is probably “gold” for the next decade, however. Good luck, FDX.

My own 2 cents on the Ugg popularity is my own 17 yr old daughter won’t touch them…says they are only for 13 yr old girls now…same with Northface stuff…fwiw.
mis-typed the email
down over 30% since its last earnings beat, hmmm
here near Malibu, de rigeur and umm, it’s actually 75 degrees
posted a fashion link on twitter showing lines at one of the UGG NYC boutiques
and every fashionista loves to put them down … with as many secretly or flamboyantly parading in them
a major Nordstrom do it yourself shoe area and FootwearNews.com brand of the year
Frye boots and Uggs saved the fashion season for many shops that didn’t get the serious cold weather customer looking foR whatever you need to wear when it’s snowing and/or freezing
several analysts are waking from their down-30% stupor to defend it
ugly? heck yes. in this case, perhaps that is the charm.
Ha!
Welcome Jenny Jones
Dear Female IBc readers,
Uggs are a turn off.
Buy erotique leggings and sexy pumps (at the least).
Uggs are for fugs.
Sorry if anyone’s interested to the contrary.
YOU…are a ridiculous, misinformed BUFFOON!!!
With All Due Respect!!!
You must be female.
Most women say such teases to me before I pull out the wallet, then bounce for the panty-drop.
Gotta get pass the BS to get to the goo’ stuff, eh.
By the way — that was a pretty good tune!
________
Buy NKE, JNJ, MO, KO and go live on a beach tweaking with the PPT instead of dealing with the volatility of DECK?
MCZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
BUY ME MORE
I can get on either side of an interesting stock story, and then defend my position like a pit bull.
Having said that, DECK is still up for grabs, although it was by far, my worst trade of 2011.
I’m going back to stocks I trust to move up & down 40 points a week, like PCLN….(GOOG is looking good here too)
We either have some great valuations out there, or some nasty, stinking swine.
2012 will reveal the great mysteries of the east.
I bought a very small position in DECK today @ 78.05. If it’s good for the Fly, it’s good enough for me! I would have bought a lot more but I’m running out of cash.
Lucky you!
Look at any rosy Yahoo article like this one (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-job-market-ends-better-215423241.html?l=1). Look at the comments.
People aren’t stupid.
I think REMX rare earths has more upside than SLV silver here. But, they both should have at least 10% more upside, each
We are reaching a point where all the tech devices you buy have rare earth components. And REMX rare earths are extremely undervalued relative to the Nasdaq
I have a DECK buy order at 75.64 – we’ll see if it fills tomorrow
It’s like a summer breeze swooping in, meddled with infectious diseases…
this is a pretty juicy writing Dr. … I want to put some salt and pepper on it and eat it 🙂
Nah, I saw that coming… if Brett Favre can sing show tunes to some nun, then I can have my ribs and BBQ them too… Just thinking about my Ford Taurus, it has a hole in the roof. It’s a junker, but I still know how to safari and lasso up Geoferry the Giraffe and buy me some $50 legos… THAT’S A STATUS SYMBOL.
Sardonic pygmyconveyance was my idea, along with golden tissues.. masterpieces of an 8 year old… oh well, the times rot us all
“But it is not easy to sink an oil supertanker, which is much bigger and more resilient than a warship, analysts said. ”
Hellooooo. It’s a floating incendiary device.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Morons
I’m just glad this damn year will be over soon.
Yipper, great looking chart support level on DECK, jock strap simile.
Just a thought…
On December 15, we lost one of the great “journalists” of our day.
Christopher Hitchens died at the age of 62 after an 18 month battle with cancer. He died at the MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas. This is a place I am all too familiar with as it was my Mom’s “last best hope” before we lost her.
Hitchens was at times devisive. Usually controversial. Always, provocative. But, NEVER boring!
R.I.P. “Hitch”!
You will be missed!
Nice tribute. Loved Hitch. Always original, never cliched. Dry as the desert wit. Never stood for one single second of bullshit, left or right.

Amen!!!
Please consider buy and hold strategies , with dividends,, as you are probably getting to emotional to trade. MCD, the stallion, up 25% with dividend, the old stalwarts, PM or Mo, also up big.. Why the pain of WNR or Deck. I realize this strategy s of making money for the long term does not sell Internet hits… But it works, and no need to spend all that time posting , you can enjoy your Chianti Classico and Cuban cigars , and Mrs Fly on your favorite beach, it ‘s South Beach I guess!
Just a thought….
Market is just destroying the mo-mo highflyers…can PCLN and AAPL be next?
so, my uncle says he’s havein trouble with his new young wife. she’s kinda being a bitch so i sent him an ant-eater.
We’ve lost a generation of investors / traders :

My God “The Who” were great !!!!

Everybody should stop with their ridiculous DECK anecdotal single market observations. They have been putting up ridiculous numbers y/y in 2011. Internationally they are growing at +113% in the UGG brand (three months Q3 y/y). In total they are growing at +49% y/y for Q3! As for their inventories- it seems like even though it has grown considerably, they like to keep a cushion of $200M which is inline with their new sales numbers. Yes, this does leave them open to larger losses but it is manageable considering their sales growth. Q4 is also their largest seasonal quarter. In 2010 they did $430M in revs in Q4. To put this in perspective, in Q3 of 2011 they did $414M! If I let my dog out in the mall, she’d herd thousands of those sheep-boot toting bags held by broads in no time.
I think The Fly will be correct come Q4 earnings. If I had a position, I would defend it.
sold vxx pos. even
started a position in dmnd yestadee before close.
deck a buy now?
my 2 cents, buy it when you see some kind of uptrend. unless you are a stock god and can buy this thing for your own reasons, doesn’t look safe and it might have a ways to fall.
yesterday I bought zsl puts. should I sell
fly
I did a survey yesterday in the clinic.
out of 20 patient’s 4 had UGG’s.
And it was fucking 81 degrees here in southern California.
figure that out.
