Drink the Nectar of the Gods and Be Gone

Courtesy of The PPT, the following stocks are vacillating near their 20 day moving averages (we’ve digitized your stupid charts) with percentage of shares sold short more than 10% and have a technical score that is considering to be good and getting better, according to The PPT algorithms.

The entirely of the screen has 48 names. All are screened for minimum average daily volume of 500k. Why bother buying stocks that are heavily shorted?

Coming out of a swoon, short sellers serve as tinder for the fire that rages in the general market. It’s not a surprise to see heavily shorted stocks broadly outperforming the overall market on upswings. At the same token, heavily shorted stocks tend to get fucked hardest when markets reverse lower. Why? Because lazy short sellers pile onto heavily shorted names, figuring smarter people than them have already done the homework.

If the market gets going again, I will be a big buyer of stocks that are heavily shorted. But they are just trades. Remember that. I have no interest in seeing if the short sellers are correct through abysmal quarterly earnings reports.

Into recovery, we have 7% upside in this tape. At 7% on the S&P, many high beta names will return 20%. It is my duty to find several and milk them of their nectar.

The Euro Orgy, ie Finance Ministers meeting is still on. Why does everyone have so much hope for all of this. Germany compares Euro Bonds as a cause for Hilter coming to power in their local paper. IMF would need to raise more money if they are going to help, that means USA funding a Europe Recovery…ah, that ain’t going to happen. EFSF roflol. The nice part of all of this, tomorrow is the end of the month so all the passive currency funds will be done buying up the euro..and later I get the FINAL PMI’s out of China and Europe…bulls enjoy your day, tomorrow will be mine.

you don’t need a real solution for us to go higher tomorrow. you just need some release of information that they had not released publicly before. that would count as “certainty”, and as CNBC keeps telling me, that’s all we really need.

…though, i’m sure european countries would also enjoy more credit, in addition to certainty.

So, just for shits and giggles, I looked at my portfolio as of 12/30/2010. If I still owned that same crap today (without any trading since then) the value would be down 1/3. As it is I’m only down 8%. So maybe I’m not such a bad trader.

Look at your positions using the day you bought them. Doesn’t matter when you make up arbitrary starting points.

1209 did not hit today. I did not short the market just yet, waiting for 1209 to hit or fake above it. This coincides with indexes hitting 50 daily SMAs. That is in my mind the high probability trade to short and if you have been long this could be your exit. These levels are very significant for direction. Quick recap: When the S&P downgraded the US we were trading around 11700’s and we moved down. When the japanese earth quake hit we were trading in 12000s and stopped around 11700’s. So this level is extremely important and is fork in the road.

Today looks like a classic consolidation day after a strong move on monday. I expect another green day tomorrow to hit my optimal shorting levels of 1209-1215. Let’s see if the market allows me to enter short tomorrow…

Scott B has a really good piece up. In it, he refers to Minsky Moment. I had no idea who Minsky was, here is a link for a download of one of his papers discussing the Financial Instability Hypothesis http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=161024

The review was announced last week and as we all know the prices have been acting accordingly over the days, weeks, and months.
The news has been discounted and IMO, in fact means a big bounce is coming for them as there will be no more near term ratings downgrades
This is the way a perverted market operates.

        Trader

The problem is the markets know none of these banks are solvent.

A cratering Case Shiller index and continued pressure on Euro yields were not priced in.

Whats getting priced in right now is insolvency and potetial nationalizations of the TBTF banks.

No one is going to touch financials until housing prices stabilize, and thats not gonna happen for years if not decades if bond yields rise.

        What a disaster.

    From Goldman Sachs
1 of the 4 they recomend for 2012.

    Western Refining [WNR 11.72 0.05 (+0.43%) ] gets a $23 price target, a 95 percent premium, from Goldman.

The company is an independent oil refiner that owns and operates two refineries in Texas and New Mexico. It also operates 150 retail-service stations throughout the Southwest and is a wholesale petroleum-products distributor.

The company just reported third-quarter earnings of $1.38 per share, outdoing analysts’ views by 3 cents per share.

Western Refining’s shares have a three-year annualized return of 18 percent.

How will human existence on Earth end? The answer is in a laboratory cage right now, eating pelletized food and plotting against us:
    http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/12/top-ten/top-ten-2011-photography#/04-dancing-rats-taming-wild-musi-670.jpg

“This brown rat’s angry display at the photographer reflects 73 generations of breeding for hostility to humans. Scientists at Novosibirsk and in Germany are comparing the aggressive rat genome to that of rats selected for friendliness, attempting to untangle connections between DNA and behavior.”

Generation #666 escapes into the wild…

Did you hear our esteemed president’s remarks about Iran and the events in Tehran? Not only irrelevant is this man but, embarrassing as well. Oh? What would you do? Cut the nuts off the Iranian banking system and close them out. Screw the Russians and Chinese support.

Fly, I have found open market insider buying with cash (not option exercise) to be very reliable indicator thru the years particularly for small to mid caps. Have you considered including that in the PPT?
