These slow rolling black swan events, purported by governments intentionally, are extraordinarily rare. As a matter of fact, I do not believe this has ever happened.
I take no qualms with those who want no part of this tape and have elected to go to cash. The ECB can try to intervene and buy wothless bonds. However, I don’t think it can work.
There is “no bid” for EU debt because the debts overwhelm the resources that the CB’s in Europe have to stop it.
You might get your ECB printfest but it’s not going to work. The bond market realizes Europe is fucked.
Pound the table as hard as you want for more global interventions. It’s not going to work and it will only create massive inflation.
Germany still may choose to bail on this nightmare.

The ECB can win. All central banks have within their power to raise nominal GDP at will. This isn’t something new. It’s always been there as a result of their ability to control the quantity of money.
A large part of the problem in the EU is that the central bank has lost control of events allowing nominal GDP to collapse.
It can regain control any time it wants to.
The Fed has shown it is not afraid to ‘print’ money. Our yields are low enough; we issue more debt to the open market, treasury lends it to various european governments and refinances over xxx years. Bingo bango bongo- world crisis solved and the bank with the printing press has just bought another continent.

My personal feeling is that we are indeed possibly watching the slow (but accelerating) destruction of the world’s financial systems, whether you date this to Bretton Woods or Jekyll Island or whatever. I’m not banking on it happening, but it’s well past the time to start considering that it could.
