If consumers are splurging, it’s probably based on credit. My great-grandfather owned many grocery stores up until the great depression. He extended credit to his customers and went bankrupt after they couldn’t pay. Credit card offerings have hit a level not seen since boom times recently.

Forecast:
FCX is going to fill the gap down here around $38.50-40.50, and then run up to $46+ by the end of the year (due to sleazy hedge fund managers and various industrial stock chasers)
Gold vs. Gold Miners in an unsustainable divergence.
I hope FCX files bankruptcy, MF Global style.
I would be skeptical of the run, but XLB materials is one of my hedges/long
Probably outperforms, especially given world climate and natural disaster trends
Not to digress, but FTK has been holding up pretty well on this downturn.

p.s.: GDX a good alternative to FCX, but to watch the bot buying/selling with serious volume of FCX is interesting.
They (FTK) had a tremendously bullish operations update last week. FTK’s turnaround is still on track. Just a gut feeling (might be gas) but FTK could be a possible take out candidate. I have no real evidence to back this up other than expect consolidation in the industry to continue, until it doesn’t.
