I looked at my Mac screen for about 5 minutes– thinking of an apropos title for the passing of Steve Jobs. I didn’t want to be too melodramatic, nor corny. I couldn’t think of anything that fit my mood. Generally, I am detached from loss of life, mainly because it’s part of the experiment. But I really feel a sense of loss with the death of America’s greatest inventor, best CEO and visionary.
It’s unfortunate that he had to go so soon. However, he transformed the world in the short time he was here and made his mark. Well done Steve.
During a time of mass mediocrity and denigration, we should all mourn the loss of a great American businessman and icon.

RIP Mr. Jobs
Would love to see $AAPL halted for the day but that isn’t how our world works.
Halting AAPL is definitely not what he would want.
– God is in for one hell of a design review when Steve gets to heaven. Good luck!
A great innovator, leader, visionary, who set the example of follow your dreams with passion. Will be greatly missed. Indeud.
well said, sir fly…my thoughts exactly.
Yes.
Broke contracts to get to the top, screwed people over, celebrate the dream…..

Fuck off asshole.
fwiw i’m sure he was an asshole. you can’t accomplish all that he did without being a dick.
you really cant. change is hard. even good change.
Amen. He was a hero and one of the greatest entrepreneurs in history. The one consolation is that his brilliance has inspired millions of other entrepeneurs.
RIP.
Beautiful rememberance on Apple’s homepage

May as well re-post the great commencement address he gave at Stanford a number of years ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1R-jKKp3NA
one of the best speeches ever.
Brings tears to my eyes. Can’t believe he’s gone.
Agreud. Awesome stuff.
There are few people in this world that deserve the amount of respect this gentleman does. RIP Steve.
I’m grateful for being able to experience his visions and learn from his accomplishments. For being the father of digital consumption, he has touched me with inspiration and will continue to transcend the amazing devices and information infrastructures he has created. Thank you Steve.
Your best headline ever! Truth wins. Thanks.
I think about his wife, kids, family and friends, and the grief they must be experiencing.
May their hearts and homes be full of peace, tenderness and sweet memories of a life very well-lived.
Fly, not to kiss your ass too much or steal Steve’s thunder tonight, but I couldnt help but think how the first video sums up this site quite perfectly. Seems Job’s mantra can be employed to most any endeavor. He will be missed.
Fly your heading is spot on. He was a great man in line with many other genius inventors that have changed the way we live.
Very sad.
RIP Steve Jobs
I’m not dead you little prick go screw yourself
Totally disrespectful.
Please ban this dickhead ^
wipe the tears people and just listen to dylan.
i’ve never thought of this song as a uneral march, but its never been more aapt.
Owned Apple from $85 to $270. Biggest winner I ever owned. They say never get attached to a stock, but I felt remorse for letting this one go. I own nothing from Microsoft, all Apple. Steve Jobs was the Franklin, Edison, Ford, and Disney of our generation.
Let’s talk about obama. It gives me great pleasure to say that in a year he will be packing him and his family up and will be moving out of their stay at the white house. I am optimistic that the next president will be what this country needs. A leader m, a servant for the people.
way to politicize the death of a great man…the president is not your daddy. make your own way.
Hug never figured you as dem
im not really, i just have grown to hate politics.
i would prob be libertarian if people weren’t so extreme.
i apologize for my outburst.
Hug were good..
hug – man up on the opportunists. it was an inappropriate comment and you called him on it. carsony – we are not good and learn how to use an apostrophe.
I guess Mac users can get viruses.
what does that mean?
It was a lame attempt at sick humor.
Cancer is not funny.

His death should make all of you realize how you are wasting your lives on stupid stock trading….your non stop obsession is sad..oh and short sppl
Banned. You are a pathetic piece of offal.
Whether one is a janitor cleaning toilets, trading stocks, teaching, etc. makes no difference as it is providing for one’s own family.
Last I looked it was a legal way to make a living.
Really…It is clear that this is not your passion. Stock Trading, Art, Acting, Medicine, Cleaning, Children…I believe each of us have our own Passion. There is no logic to what it is, but like love, it is there. Jobs found his life passion and it brought him great joy in his life and to others lives. Many never find their passion in life, which is really sad. May it be a shoemaker or gardener..find your bliss is what life is all about.
Stock trading a passion…. Its a game with winners and losers..legalized gambling…passion you have is for MONEY…create nothing…add nothing..oh and one more thing buy appl puts
Steve jobs banned
FUCK OFF YOU ASSHAT TROLL.
^^^ anonymous asshat troll.
And born to live and die that way
And just to be clear, I mean, “really.”
This news is way more disappointing than the iPhone 4GS vs iPhone 5 announcement.
Truly the genius of our generation, and many before us. Probably the best CEO in history by a wide margin.
(I’m biting my tongue on this post, fucking blood is a horrible apéritif too).
I was stunned to see the headline on Yahoo. Despite knowing that it was unfortunately imminent, it is no less disheartening. We are all richer for him being with us but poorer now that he is gone. He will be missed.
I cannot BELIEVE the insensitivity that some people can exhibit at the loss of life. It is revolting and shameful.
i am so disappointed by the comments tonight. i logged on for a shared experience and met with idealogues and lemmings.
it makes me feel worse. like there really won’t ever be another innovator — we’ll all be stuck with you fools.
fuuuck….

Stole most of the technology (along with William Gates)
from Xerox-Parc in the early 80’s.
Fucked tons of people over in his day.
oh. you’re so right. he publicized, marketed, and made it fucking work. had he not – we wouldn’t have shit.
Fly, well said sir. When I was a kid I always wanted to live in the future. Thanks in part to Steve Jobs, I got my wish.
+1
Had such a heart full comment, but this app keeps crashing on my iPhone.
His 200 DMA was up…
Adjust the NFP….
Uploaded to the Cloud?
Buried 60 gigs under?
Heard at foxconn today “remove the safety nets, we are jumping for joy today”
When I read your headline I was shocked at first although I shouldn’t have been based on all the health issues he’s had over the past few years.
I immediately checked the internets to see if the story was indeed true.
Sadly it is.
Steve Jobs is probably one of the best entrepreneurs and CEOs of any American company ever!
His passing is a huge loss to everyone!
He will be missed by
EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well put.
I heard he died on my way home from the office. I actually got emotional and ferclempt. I’m a huge Apple fan. So fuck off you brown noser Yogi and poo poo and carsony, whatever the fuck that is….. and yes… My fucking iPhone is working. Thanks Steve.
Fuck you too retard.
Love you too, Poo Poo.
There are certain people that should be exempt from death. Bob Marley, Tupac, Clint Eastwood, Steve Jobs should definitely be on that list..
Clint Eastwood still kicking so he might be on that list for real:)
RIP Steve Jobs…
Sent from my iPhone BTW..
Tupac seriously….a gang banger piece shit
Tupac would gang bang the apple crowd
Jobs treated Chinese like Michael Jackson treated little boys…
Bury him next to foxxconn, see how many people leave flowers, see how many piss on his grave
Michael Jackson didn’t do shit to little boys, and Jobs provided jobs to Chinese at the fair market price. 8 billion people in the world, how many jobs have you provided for the Chinese or anyone else for that matter? I guess you would rather we be in the stone age where life can only support a few thousand people for a 20 year life span and no one builds any companies to build innovative products? If Chinese had a problem with it, they would go make their own 100+billion dollar company or suck Bill Gate’s dick instead. Chinese/India/ anyone but the US is willing to do more work for less because they need it more and it means more to them. If you have a problem with that, blame Bretton Woods+Nixon for the dollar being the world’s reserve currency to consume demand and allow you to sit on your fat ass and make more money during 1 hour of work at McDonalds than 50% of the world makes in 2 days. Or else quit blaming other people for your own incompetence to create the world you want. Because if you stop blaming people, you force yourself to take responsibility for your own actions, and only then will you be able to create the change in the world you want, because no one else gives a hit about a critic that runs his fingers on the internet. Rather than being a critic of what Jobs did or didn’t do, or being jealous that you don’t have an Iphone or whatever the fuck your problem is, you could actually do something useful with your life.
what is with you people! are the yahoo boards locked!?
Tupac is on my list. Go make your own fucking list.
tupac? wtf? and to a lesser extent, bob marley? ??
Steve jobs last words “short the refiners”
Really
You will not make it past this comment. I don’t understand some of you, always finding a way to be a dick.
Just chill the fuck out and make believe you are normal.
Tony the temp reco’d Apple to me when it was on the floor, like ten or 12 years ago, like $9 a share.
I thought it was going to zero, but the temp told me “never count Steve Jobs out.”
Tony’s still a temp, he’s struggled, and he never got into AAPL, but at least one of his friends is still riding a 40 bagger.
Of course, that friend wasn’t me, but I’m thinking of Tony the temp tonight.
“Never count Steve Jobs out.”
It’s because of people like Steve Jobs that America will stay #1…and there will be others.
I’d also like to thank the idiots taking futures down on this, allowing me to buy back into this rally. Did they really think he would be the first known survivor of pancreatic cancer in the world? Did they not see the TMZ photos?
Almost as bad as the analysts tweeting from the Apple event yesterday thinking Steve was going to make an appearance.
Quint. I agree with your first sentence. If we are to leave this quagmire and not be subserviant fucks to China, we need more like Steve to step up, although try to keep jobs in America (Yes, Fuck you Hoffa Jr. for elevated wages that has caused this bullshit.) We are the country of innovation, not copy fucks like China. Like Sheen tried so hard to incorporate into our language, “Winning.” We really have to have more cool ass guys like Jobs to make that happen.
I first heard about Steve Jobs after I became interested in the first Apple ][e computers. I thought it was nuts they let him go from Apple, and yet they brought him back (or he wanted to come back). Look what he managed to achieve once he was back in the saddle.
Jobs inspired me to get into computers, more so on the tech side than marketing side (taught myself Basic and Assembly language thanks to my first Apple ][e). His work definitely inspired me and I will never forget him.
(salutes)
I have been carrying around a fully functional computer with a video camera in my pocket for 3 years, I will never tire of reminding people of this fact. We live in remarkable times. I doft my cap to a true creative genius.
This is a part of the Stanford Address with pictures of his younger days ….
http://youtu.be/zTR6B7CBKmo
Never owned an Apple product, bought an iPod for my son and he loves it. But I could tell you nothing about it. I admire the man for his leadership and drive and bringing a company back to life…pure respect.
Why don’t all the young Chinese kids that died at Foxconn building iPhones get the same kind of rememberance?
Because they didn’t do anything in life to be remembered.
Are you serious?
Anonymous? Really. You should have used your realm seudo name, because you have a point. Don’t be a chicken shit. You can’t blame corporate heads for this shit. It’s unions that have caused thus. Like water that flows where there is the least resistance, so will corporations go where the can make the most money. Don’t blame them. Blame the fucks that made it too hard to make a buck in the U.S.
+1
YES, FUCK ALL YOU HATERS,WHATS THE MATTER WITH YOU ALL !!!!!!!! YOU PEOPLE DONT HAVE A FUCKING HEART ANYMORE
I was the sysop of a BBS at 12 years of age running on an Apple ][e with 128k and 2 5 1/4 disk drives.
Thank You Mr.Jobs, well done sir.
That’s the same age and hardware configuration at which I became interested in computing. What I thought was a childhood hobby turned into a successful career.
RIP, Steve.
…and one more thing: Fuck cancer.
Fly,
Thanks for posting these clips and comments.
Well, I mean your comments.
I’ve never been this sad about a celebrity death.
Honestly, I’m a bit taken aback by how sad I am over someone I have never seen in real life, just on youtube via the technology he created.
I am a windows/linux type, but the portable products from Apple this decade have been brilliant. So many big companies become bland, safe, afraid of making a mistake. It is a mark of his genius that he could impress the innovative risk taking spirit of a two person operation in a garage on to a giant corporation, and do it so successfully.
I was really looking forward to his next product, because he could make so many people say “Why didn’t I think of that?”.
I’m thinking he laid out the game plan for the next 3 – 5 years, no ?
To me life is all about taking chances, new discoveries, pushing boundaries and limits, and never giving up. Save me a seat in heaven steve. I think we’d have a lot to talk about.
Thanks for giving me a target to piss on from a great height.
lol
And now a word from the economy:
(a song actually)
http://versusplus.com/aword.html
Nice post Fly. He was one of the few people ever who was able to anticipate what people would want before they wanted it. And do it over and over again.
Something most don’t realize is that Steve Jobs probably saved the music industry with the creation of the iPod and iTunes.
His genius is unparalleled .
RIP Steve
Beautiful title Fly
All paths of glory lead to the grave.
56 years. Mourn, sure, but also Celebrate.
_____________
How lucky we all were to witness his professional journey. Cheers, Steve. You will be sorely missed.
So……..Steve Jobs passed away and I was thinking about that. He was just a couple years older than I am. (Yes I am older than 47.5) Look at the difference in his life and mine. His company at one point recently had a higher valuation than that of the US government and employs thousands worldwide! My company supports….once in a while….for the most part….me and a couple other people.
How did he achieve what he did? Was Mr Jobs in the right place at the right time? Was he orders of magnitude smarter than anyone else on the planet? What did he give up to get where he was; to attain all that he had? Did he work that much harder than anyone else?
……… He was, in the end, just like the rest of us. Naked coming into this world and naked leaving it. We take nothing with us to the grave except our faith. I need to remember that as I strive and struggle for this, that and the other thing. I need to weigh the value of time spent in one activity vs another. We all do.
Goals are important, running a business well is important, a big new house is nice, so is the latest techno gadget from Mr Jobs’ company or the latest from the automotive world or a sweet vacation.
But are those things worth sacrificing time with our family, with our friends, with kids and grandkids? Are they worth ignoring the guy down our street or down the hall that is struggling to cope with a health or financial problem?
I would wager that Mr Jobs would gladly trade a billion or two for another day with his wife and kids.
The writer/singer of the Psalms says, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”. That is a worthy goal indeed.
Hey Heaterman… don’t undersell yourself buddy. You’re doing good even by having a couple of people in your employ.
We seriously will miss Steve. Keep making those machines up in the sky.
If any of you actually took the time to watch his commencement speech at Stanford, you’d find that Steve Jobs was the polar opposite of every teabag loving, liberal hating greed head commenter on this blog.
Heaterman, I’m at the airport in my old hometown of Pittsburgh leaving for my current hometown of Vegas and just read your post. I just had a great 4 days here and couldn’t agree with what you wrote more. Life is a gift.
