It was sad looking at my twitter and stocktwits stream when the earthquake in Japan hit this morning. You cud see the bears get giddy wishing the tsunami would come. That’s one reason I go to cash not short becoz you just start wishing for disaster when you are short the market.
Well, there’s something to be said for being on the side of reality– like in 2008. But right now we are in a Fed-induced bull market, even if we may have pullbacks along the way. So reality is on the Bull side.
Most people who were Bears in 2008, were still Bears in 2009 and 2010 and lost their asses. I do notice on Bear sites that some– not all– of the Bearse end up wishing for disasters, having an unrealistically negative attitude toward numerous things, and being in a generally crappy mood pretty much constantly. Add to that the fact that the market is bullish most of the time so they lose money, and it doesn’t seem at all worth it.
For me I was bullish in 2008 with a bunch of Oil, Steel, Coal and Great Fundie Stocks…and then pop, all gone, I have been on a quest to see what I missed. All of this is based on Garbage, imho, Money Printing and China Hording Copper, etc is not a foundation for recovery,..its just a bubble that is going to pop ugly. I just have to learn what it is like when it does. My heart goes out for Japan…fwiw.
Nymph, you may be keeping track of too much info for your own good. All you need to know right now is that Ben is going to pump this market up until the Dow doubles or more. He is the only “fundamental” that matters. And BTW, the Fed was withdrawing money during 2008 and that’s why the market went down. It will be several years before Bears will be right again, for anything more than a temporary pullback. You seem like a bright well-informed person (maybe too well-informed– blinded to the Fed Forest by the trees.) I hope you get off this Bear kick soon. Or I hope you still have some money left to profit from the bubble popping when it happens– in a few years.

Little chance of shutting down the Fed or the system itself. Methinks we are on the path to eventually losing reserve currency status for the greenback. It will take some time for that to happen, but once it does, our markets will be more than homo hammered, and life will never be the same in the good ol’ USA.
It is obvious (for they have even said) that China is moving away from holding reserves in $USD. But rather than doing the tres gauche act of dumping dollars, China is buying hard assets in the form of energy and mining companies with those dollars—a very clever way to get around the wrath of Obama (who appears to be clueless as well as spineless).
