Fly Sell: MOS

I booked the profit in MOS, due to today’s tragic decline in cotton and pervasive weakness in Ag.

But, umm, your thesis?? Farmers’ swollen pockets? Shopping extravaganza redneck-style, with Jack Daniel in the lead? And food riots, camel-style? All gone?!

Food riots camel-style is a misnomer. Those fuckers can travel for months without food and water. My bad. The rest is correct.

Some thinking on social media, Facebook in particular. I’ve been long time trying to track what kind of ads they show me, and in response to what kind of my activities. Recently their targeting has improved, and I noticed that now show more relevant ads to me than before. One interesting thing has happened today when I updated my status to “Party time!” These bustards IMMEDIATELY offered me 1) Cheap alcohol from an online-outlet, and 2) Borrow money from some ghetto-hockshop-gone-online. What can I say, they’re getting better and better.

The point is FB now track status updates for keywords and combining with other factors (like day of week, in this case), serve better click-through.

Noticed that too. It’s fun to mess with them by posting up stati (is that a word?) that vary widely in their content. The ads you get are hilarious. Try mixing a reference to PETA and Ted Nugent or the Ten Commandments and the vice of your choice. You’ll see what I mean.

I don’t understand the action in MOS, and what it has to do with the Cargill deal if anything, but the action is telling me to sell. I’m flat now on the stock and will look to see what happens on Tuesday. Thesis or no thesis, in this market, the fatter fingers than mine are cutting down trees one at a time so no one sees what’s happening from outside the forest (yes, I know I’m mixing metaphors!)…

    good weekend to all.
