Ghouls, Bears and Sea Urchins

Steve Jobs, CEO of AAPL, is taking a medical leave of absence, most likely due to cancer. We all die, even superstar CEO’s whose innovation changed the world. It’s just part of life–dying.

AAPL did not just invent cool stuff. They took the electronics market back from the Japanese, brought it back to America, and became a status symbol in the process.

Without a doubt, the absence of Jobs will be a negative for the company. However, AAPL‘s footprint is so big now, I dare say they will thrive with or without him. It’s not just a fucking computer company anymore, jackasses. And they are not simply selling ipods. The company has established themselves as the premier and dominant electronics manufacturer in the world. Any significant dips should and will be bought.

Let’s see if these guys are as dumb as the tag suggests.

NOTE: Just in case you didn’t know, we launched PDS 2.0, ever so quietly, a short while ago.

I bought some Jan $345 puts last week…when I saw the news I had a fleeting moment of happiness at the windfall i am likely to gain tomorrow, but within a nano-second I felt terrible….that’s no way to make a buck.

we’ll see…i bought them thursday, so i very much doubt they will lose value before the earnings announcement…apple will clearly open lower and I will take my gains immediately. won’t be waiting post earnings for them to collapse.

i just bought a smidge to hedge my overall portfolio on the off chance that earnings season disappoints…i figured if things go badly the high-flyers will crash the most, and i can get some good bang for my hedging buck.

Maybe Apple will move away from their love of proprietary parts/apps. I would buy stock then. I would even buy an apple computer in a nice ATX case. Power supply blows out? simple! replace power supply… no need to go to hipster store and buy some fancy special part where you’re paying extra just so people can’t use 3rd party parts on the computers.

until then, i have no need or love for apple products or stock.

    >>However, AAPL’s footprint is so big now, I dare say they will thrive with or without him.<<

You have no idea if this is the case. Burt Rutan has conceptualized one brilliant aviation machine after another, and I daresay that without him, his company's engineers would have been "just another bunch of engineers". Who is the Burt Rutan of Apple, if not Jobs? If Apple doesn't keep innovating at a very rapid pace, it will become yet another commodity gadget-maker. Look at Sony these days, or Motorola three or four years ago, and that could be a Jobs-less Apple.

Right, absolutely brilliant… and from Jobs.

And now music and video distribution is available all over the place (and the trend seems to be towards open architecture). So, who at that company will come up with the NEXT iTunes, and the one after that and after that (vs. whatever long string of crap ideas Microsoft keeps “creating”)? There’s a very real danger that where it truly counts (i.e., innovations that people truly want when, often, no one believes they will), Steve Jobs *is* Apple.

Of course those loathsome ghouls and deadenders at Zero Hedge are having orgasms over Jobs illness. Anything that would take the market down for any reason they will grip onto like a virus.

If there’s one freaking website that just annoys the shit out me and I wish would be forcibly closed down and the remains thrown at sea , it’s Zero Hedge.

They trying to scare and panic the crap out of Apple stock holders.

It’s one thing to discuss events, bad events like grown ups and try to predict market outcomes. Le Fly does that all the time and says so. No one has a problem with that.

However it’s another thing to pine for disasters so that you can be seen to be right. That’s ghoulish.

They (ZH) seem positively giddy about Jobs illness. While they probably shorted apple for other reasons, once established in a short position that is a big loser they glom onto any shred of hope that they may have been right. It’s all about being right.

As opposed to the pump and dump you see everyday by CNBC and the other fucktards in the financial media?

Who are the real scumbags? The bubblemaking has caused people to lose 50% of ttheir 401k’s in the past 10 years. The S&P is down 20% over the last 1o years.

I am no huge Zero Hedge fan by any means. Pumping gold on a daily basis is not my kinda investing. However, at least they present the case for not being in stocks which IMO is getting stronger and stronger each and everyday.

The real scumbags reside at the Fed as they force people to take risk as a result of their zero rate bubble making policies.

BTW, I remember the AAPL years with Scully. I’m not terribly optimistic about the company with Jobs. Maybe they will continue to innovate at a high level. I don’t believe comparing AAPL to Ford is particularly helpful. Henry Ford innovated processes and methods of business, not consumer designs.

You know what is so strange with all of this, AAPL reports after the close tomorrow, why the timing leading into earnings report? OK, Fibo Resistance is 400 longterm, 287 for support…AAPL at this level has no nearterm support to hold it if it wants to go. OK, getting back to my fav subject, Shanghai had a big drop on Monday and tonight it is flat.. The China Govt upped the bank reserve amount and is cutting lending. On a human note, having to deal with death issues last week….imho, death sucks and is really hard to deal with.

“They took the electronics market back from the Japanese, brought it back to America,”

All of their stuff is made in China, from parts made in Taiwan and other places. The Globe and Mail estimated that Apple products are responsible for 1 billion dollars of the USA trade deficit.

I admit that I am personally responsible for about $1500. of Canada’s version of that.
