Red For Now

ANN will squeeze higher today on better than expected results. You need to pay attention to this trade: retail names with large short positions. Think CROX.

Everyone is betting against retail because fuckers from the midwest are on meth, unemployed and plain old stupid. However, you forget how rich your NYC/LA masters are. NYC alone can carry many of these retail names, AND MORE. Having said that, I am comfortable long PSUN, THQI and will look to buy LIZ. My only reservation with LIZ is the fact that JCP stole Claiborne from under them, leaving LIZ with an uncertain future. However, if management is successful in developing their new brands, LIZ can really, really rip higher.

I know the futures are pointing to a lower open; but I will be shocked if we close down today. Bernanke is a manic without a leash and is hellbent on biting short sellers in the face.

CSCO announced a gargantuan $10 billion share buyback . Expect mergers and buybacks to reign supreme, especially on market pullbacks. In other words, there is a put in this market.

Key chips, except for INTC, have been higher since the open.
Usually a good sign of an intraday NASDAQ turnaround.

Is this translated from the original Mandarin?

Fugghedbout NYC… Mrs. Fly ALONE is worth 700 bps of surge in these names.

FWIW, I am a big fan of ANN squeezes!

Sometimes vision is a little more clear from afar. In other words, we in the Midwest just might see things a little more clearly than those close to the “action”. It’s all (mother market that is) going in the swirling food recycling receptacle at some point.

Working in my trade with builders and homeowners during the housing boom circa 2003-2006, I, along with anyone else with a functioning brain, could see that the house of cards being built on home values had nowhere to go but down. It was all equity built on the supposition that values would increase forever at an exponential rate. Value was supposedly added by bells and whistles like fancy cabinets and counter tops while things that provided true value such as upgraded insulation and heating/cooling equipment languished because it was not eye candy. Now those stupid dolts are sitting in a 6,000 sq ft house that is twice as big as they needed and utility costs are breaking their meager bank while they live paycheck to paycheck…………..if they have a job. I just laugh when I get a phone call from one of those homeowners asking about installing a wood burner of some kind because their new house costs $500/ month for heat in the winter. Well DUH! It’s 6,000 sq ft!!! What did you think? It would heat for nothing? Sorry, no sympathy here. Now all those sq ft are a liability rather than an asset.

The same type of thing has and is happening in the market as we speak. Company values/stock prices have rebounded nicely from the lows of 2008/2009………….but why? Is business actually that good? Have these companies shown a quarterly/yearly profit based on sound fundamentals while maintaining healthy inventory levels. Or have they maxed out human capital and drawn inventory levels down to make things look good. Methinks the upcoming year will tell because the leverage being carried by many businesses and a majority of J. Q. Public type consumers simply has to wash out yet. The root problems of debt, unemployment, declining wages, underlying inflation have yet to be addressed in a meaningful way………. And the only real way is via deleveraging. I just don’t see that happening on a large enough scale yet.

We will get the change we were promised but it will not be what we had hoped for.

I have seen a few hard working country boys in my days who drive a beat up pick up and laugh at the city dwellers paying a couple of bucks for a cup of coffee, buying a bag of overpriced over hyped organic crap at Whole Foods, and maxing out the credit card to buy the “latest” fashion.
I used to represent one country boy who would come to meetings in jeans and he went from cattle farming to owning a number of banks (that later got bought out buy Sun Banks).
Another one I did work for started with nothing and is now a major hotel owner- always wore jeans and we did business on a handshake.

The Bernank is sounding a wee bit testy in regards to defense of his QE2/3/4 project. Other countries are taking a rather dim view of the proscribed course of action and his feathers seem a bit ruffled.

Gotta be Texas. It’s the only state in the country with a business friendly environment. Last I checked, the numbers proved it.

Texas is an amazing state. Back when I was doing acquisitions for a media company, I found out (late nineties) that Texas had over 20 of the top 150 metros in the country. Places you would never think of … like Waco and Amarillo, are large enough to make the top 150.

Be sure to see your gastro-enterologist regularly. Serious as a heart attack… or in this case, colon cancer.
