This, among a lot of other things, is what I don’t understand. A couple of months ago when the Yen went up, stocks went down. Fair enough. Now when the Yen goes up stocks go up?
Now what about all this shit about POMO? If the Fed is buying the fuck out of treasuries shouldn’t that be driving up the price due to “increased demand”? Yes I realize it’s artifical demand but they’re still being bought. Again, a couple of months ago when the price of treasuries went up (as referenced by TLT) equities went down. That has not happened the last two weeks as we have TLT up 4.3% and $SPX up ~2%.

You nailed the frustration! I believe the reason why equities are not down when Yen is up now is simply because both the countries are in an informally acknowledged but full blown FX war, which was not the case in early summer.
As for treasuries, first thing you do realize buying more of treasuries will increase TLT and lower yields, which is what you are seeing. As for your point on relation to equities, fed buying more of treasuries is keeping the yield low with the idea that such low yields will drive everyone to equities or force the banks to use their money for lending rather than parking in ultra low yielding instruments. This concept and the effects of it were not the concerning factor earlier this year when the more traditional reaction to TLT going higher took the front seat.
My guess is someone tweeted POMO and all of the rats started chasing their tails.

Well, we are at the tip of that formation….either way is a breakout….LME copper is at 26 week highs with China annoucing additional property cuts….just supports this sell off which goes against all logic with all the good news we had today….yes Ben B could announce some lame QE and all rules go out the window…but for me, I used to always add to the top and have the rug ripped out from under me…..now I can maybe see what the bot’s are looking at…but it is still beta.
