My comments have nothing to do with Le Fly’s mighty impressive credentials and my respect for them. But listening to all talk show hosts, I gotta say this. Pandering to public’s emotions by spewing hatred is highly risky no matter what side it comes from. This is just plain one-sided coin dickery. We will have something close to civil war, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Keith Olbermann, Michael Savage, Bill Maher, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

But for them, it’s not risky…it’s a ratings goldmine. Of course, if they actually gave two shits about what’s good for the country, they’d reconsider their agenda of hate. And this applies to all those douchebags, with Olbermann & Rush at the forefront.

Savage actually has a valid point in there, but it gets lost in his inane presentation.

Savage is a complete idiot – it happened after OBama met with the Indians, the vote that they voted on was already planned and it was one of the items of the course of business for the day – what a nit picker – what exactly could congress do after this happened? He is suggesting just shut down for the day – I guess that would have been ok, but what the hell, no one plans for tragedy, so going on with regular business after addressing the issue seemed to be the best thing to do at the time, sure in hindsight it might look foolish, but why didn’t Savage take the day off? Yet another conservative whack job that distorts or spins every little thing that happens into some left wing liberal commie blah blah blah….Obama has rallied the stock market 35% from it’s lows, got us out of IRaq, and averted the next great depresion – all of which were caused by republican greed and anit-regulation snorting rails of blow off strippers asses cowboy do whatever the fuck you want if you are a business type of attitude. In their eyes if you are a business you are akin to a god – fuck everyone else as long as you get rich, thats all that matters, who cares if you bankrupt the nation – that’s the republican view of capitalism – THE REALITY IS, IS THAT YOU CANNOT LIVE ON THIS EARTH ALONE, YOU ARE PART OF A SOCIETY. Conservatives would say that they have no mother, because that would imply that they had to leech of someone for something without working for it – taken to the extreme, conservatives are just as fucking ignorant as liberals

Excellent rant. How sick is it that Bush tossed away thousands of lives in Iraq without even bothering to try to understand the consequences for our nation or the impact on our military – all while being cheered by these same armchair idiots.

However, Obama has NOT gotten us out of Iraq and, like Kennedy with Vietnam, I doubt he’ll have the political balls to let the failure of our efforts there happen on his watch.

As for Obama “getting us out of a depression”: give me a fucking break. Obama has hired the very crooks who thieved us into this mess and has permitted them to run wild as they gift you children’ future in the form of bailouts, giveaways, and 1/4% money that Goldman et al can leverage and use to fund their rape.

Among the best predictors of a nation’s failure is distribution of wealth. With the compensation at the top running between 400 and 600 times that of the average worker, we’re fucked when bad times cause the still unrealistically-high expectations of the masses to meet reality.

What’s new is that we’re richer than other failing nations of the past. The question is: if the country continues to be prosperous enough to feed and house everyone while providing them with the opiate of TV, will that be enough to keep them from taking to the streets? It may be …the very rich will have to become more subtle in their consumption and we would have to still have a few homeless beggars so that the average guy could feel better-off than someone.

Socialism being such a long-lived and successful concept, I’m curious to gauge your prescription for such a calamity as the “unequal distribution of wealth” that concerns you so.

I hope it’s different than the world-improving utopians that have come before you.

You see, my study of history brings me to an opposite conclusion — that every great state has been brought down by the very forces of palliative redistribution (you mention bread and circuses, I wonder if you know what they mean?) for which you advocate.

Please, show us the path to greater utopia.

Jake, you are reliably incapable of assimilating any information that doesn’t fit into one of your pre-formed boxes.

The bread and circuses (ooh, are we supposed to be impressed that you used a reference that most don’t get) that we are experiencing now result in a wealth transfer from future tax payers and current savers to people who fucked up and/or stole. And the massive re-distribution of political gifts now flow to very rich bankers who produce nothing – not so much to the masses or to your cleaning lady.

Economic systems fail when nations inflate their way out of debts that arise from empire-building, from war, and yes, from palliative redistribution. But nations fail, and civil wars start when the wealth becomes concentrated in the few. If your knowledge of history were half as all-encompassing as your bluster, you’d know that.

Purdy is obviously a victim of public schooling.

He does stumble on “concentrated wealth” as a problem, but perhaps does not realize that feudalism is cemented by high marginal tax rates that place a wall between the super-wealthy and the middle class. A wall that ensures the continuing penury of the latter while the former “lords on.”

Lenin couldn’t have designed a more useful idiot.

Get an econ degree and tell me about my “boxes.”

My comments are about the media side of this, not the message in Savage’s broadcast.

I think it is useful to separate the entertainer from the content. These talk show hosts are successful entertainers first. They chose (or accidentally landed on) the most popular material for their act, and rode it to success.

Their content could be right, wrong or anywhere in between, but the important thing to them is it finds an audience.

For example, Rush Limbaugh is a superb entertainer. Many others have delivered the same content message as Rush, but failed because they do not have the talent Limbaugh (and Savage, Hannity, etc) have.

I think Rush had the talent and drive to be successful and would have used whatever material necessary to get where he is today. It could have just as easily been sports talk or Christian talk. But he had an opening… hundreds of failing AM stations needed cheap syndicated programming and they were predisposed to conservative.

The AM stations were throwing crap on the wall to see if it would stick. Rush did more than stick, he became a star and saved many AM radio stations from bankruptcy. But it only worked because Rush is an incredible entertainer who found the right material.

These talk show hosts have hit records, so to speak. Any normal person who alters their life path because of them is in the same league as someone who devotes their life to a pop star or TV show. The Dittoheads are like Star Trekkies, only the content is a political view instead of outer space.

In the radio business the phrase “theatre of the mind” is sometimes used. The Rush phenomenon is a result of the confluence of a talented and ambitious person, popular material for his act, and a demand for his product early on. He now sits in a studio in an office building in Palm Beach, with maybe a dozen staffers, creating theater with his formidable talent.

My point here is no doubt there are serious issues facing out country, but talk show hosts are entertainers first, and they would have done cooking shows if that had worked.

So you are saying the content — what Limbaugh is actually talking about – -is meaningless?

The penetration of nihilism into the framework of these United States in the 21st century never ceases to amaze me.

There is no meaning, it is all “nothing.”

        No, I’m not saying that.

It is meaningful, but overshadowed by the career promotion machine and the public hunger for entertainment and celebrity. I think it quickly becomes about the media itself (and its celebrities) and not about the thought or idea, and that is what I reject.

I agree with many of Limbaugh and Savage’s views, but the performance theatrics annoy me because they are effective. I don’t like seeing the masses mowed down as chumps by skilled performers, on either side of the Aisle.

I don’t think it is wise for the media to become the master. We need to see it for what it is.

FWIW, I think Savage is way over the top. I also think his sense of outrage is real, even if his rhetoric is borderline socially unacceptable.

I agree with DPeezy in that he would be far more effective if he could lay off some of the lash.

Limbaugh tends to speak with an arrogance that drives the Left crazy. It’s much like the Fly driving Timmah and other wrong-bloggers insane w. fury.

In other words “it’s their problem.”

The Left, et al, find it more useful to declaim against such “entertainers” rather than take on the substance of their problems with the statists currently well on their way to setting this country back 30 years, and possibly, more.

Whether they are left, right, center, financial, sports, computer or whatever, they have to entertain to survive. My comments are intended to be about the media, not the political orientation of the content.

Some radio talk show consultants say that a host has to have an honest passion for their on-air viewpoint. I currently believe a host needs an interest and understanding of the position, but more than anything they have to be driven to perform and entertain, and have the gift or acquired skill to do it.

Every radio host will blow through their fundamental viewpoint material in the first few shows, long before they find an audience. They can’t do the same monologue every other day, so it quickly transitions into being an entertainer, with the material as the rough plot line.

Only a host and their close friends know if it is an act or a show. No doubt Limbaugh has been as effective in speaking for the content viewpoint as much as promoting his own career, and that is a huge success story.

I’m sorry if I offended anyone here. I work in the biz, and responded to this thread as a discussion about media.

    Beware the enemy within!!!!!!

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
“For the traitor appears not a traitor – he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

My god, the torrent of baseless ramblings on this thread are so aggravating, it just…makes you crave the delicious, smooth blend of tobacco found only in Morlborro. I guarantee, smoke Morlborro cigarettes and you will feel your seething tempers abate to a passive state or reflective calm.

Calm, like a brisk morning in the untamed outdoors; a cup of quality coffee and a Morlborro cigarette is the only way, to start your day!

For you ladies, also try Virginia Slims!

Wazzup w. the pseudo-intellectual (typically, liberal) fascination with “crypto?”

It’s either racist or it’s not. Since Islam is not a race, I’d posit the gold lame skin covering has renered you addled.

I was trying to point out the irony of removing racist comments from a post whose video intends to invoke racist, xenophobic sentiment without using racist language directly — why else does Savage harp upon Obama’s name? If you disagree with the man’s policies, say so and argue directly by invoking them. To say that his name reveals his character is an ugly argument that is both void of logic and seems to imply you believe in some sort of muslim conspiracy. That is just silly. I don’t think you have to be liberal to recognize Savage’s bile for what it is.

            Back to my gold bath.

Let them honor the Yankee victory (I hate the Yankees). It will be the least destructive thing they do all of 2009. How do we profit from this in the markets though Senor Tropicana?

Do you have the numbers for % moves in the market following a Yankee victory? There are plenty of data points.

As a hindu, im a natural enemy of muslims. However, this savage guy has all his shit (facts) wrong.

I was digging around, and if the respected news sources are correct/ plausible, im going to present some counterviews.

    A. He did get his MD from the army, he did serve for 20 years as a muslim, he was willing to pay back his MD bill the army paid if they redirect him from being sent to Iraq to Afganistan. *I guess its worse for him, since he knows all the dirty secrets from Iraq from fraustrated patents of his*

    B. He seemed to be bullied for being too open about being a muslim. Hey i dont like most of what muslim faith stands for, but this i can relate to those bully vs nerd theme from our high school days. ie some 1000 damage to his car for religious reason. When the going gets tough, even the teachers dont care if bullies rape *non sexually* the nerd if its looked the other way in the whole school to keep the records of the school as prestigious as possible.

    C. This war against terrorism is infact war against extremist islamists, so lets not kid ourselves that its not against a part of islam, that dirty stain on that white shirt.

    D. This savage sounds like meat eating, low IQ, can’t think outside my box, douche bag who only cares to rally the audience even if its on false merit. that meat eating part is not really an insult, but im sure one day it will become when we try to lower emission gas through controlled animal population in the world, pelosi’s idea of the future.

    E. Then again, hey what do i care as long as it helps burn some calories for these audiences. BURN, BURN…

Your “counter-facts” are asshattish. Why not dwell on the man’s mosque and imam back in old Virginny? What do you know? He shared an imam with three of the 20 911 terrorists. Oddly coincidental, no?

Do a little google search on that, and maybe you’ll find less velocity in the stupid “bullying” theme, as even the Islamic Veterans Association is claiming it’s never received any complaints from Muslim service members on that score.

Lame-o liberalism, making excuses for their lack of vigilence again. You are natural enemey to common sense only.

Im only taking plausible things, can’t be sure cause i wasnt there pal. These are food for thought. Not everything is about black and white, good and evil. Think gray pal.

        I said counterVIEWS not counterfacts.

As for that imam he shared with terrorists, thats news for me. That definitely breaks my bullying theme.

All in all, vigilence is best left to the film industry. Jake, be careful, you might get picked up by an agency for public instigation….

JakeGint, are you telling me that one side is always so right that the other side is always so wrong? Never in history of mankind has this been true. I am right down in the center so please hear me out. You seem to be so tied up with knots inside you can die of artery blockage. Chill. Trust me this world will not end because dems are in charge. This world will end because Rush and Keith are in charge. I have a theory. Rush and keith will keep hating each other so much they will become gay lovers in 2020 and the joke will be upon all their stupid listeners. And so it will be.

What idiocy. Of course I’m not saying “every point” on Side X is correct. But there are two distinct philosophies that each side– for the most part– follows, and which side you decide is the better will determine your freedom and that of descendents. One side believes in collective authoritarianism and the other liberal, rights-based individualism. If you don’t recognize that discrepency, you might as well pack it in now.

If you have no idea of where your freedoms come from, you will have no idea where they went.

      Back to your CSI-Miami, now.

JakeGint, now see you got some good points there. I already knew them but I wanted to acknowledge them for you. And sometimes the talk show hosts make sense too. The problem here is not the cogent arguments made by you and the talk show hosts. The problem is these cogent arguments sometime get lost in the overpowering vitriol.

Whenever you force the other side to be defensive they are not in a mood to listen. So instead of getting what you want, you are helping build more resistance to your ideas. Hence I am afraid to say this but you are as much a part of the problem as the other side is because of your inability to get them to be less defensive and see your point of view.

          True words.

The peaceful and free society we live in exists because our forefathers were willing to defend and fight for their liberal and secular beleifs. Liberal societies will always be attacked by anti-democratic forces that reject the rule of Law.

True conservatism is about reckognising the gifts that was left to us; defend and protect our institutions that allow us to thrive and resolve our conflicts peacefully witout violence.

Many people prsenting themselves as conservators are in fact militant radicals. They hate the institutions and they want nothing but its destruction.

They are found on both sides.
