Twenty five percent of the S&P 500 will report earnings this week. If the market is going to fall apart, or break out, this is the week for decision.
iPCS, Inc. [[IPCS]] caught a bid today, continuing the mergers and acquisition trend, which is slowly but surely becoming a viable theme in this market. With commodity prices on the mend, trending higher, it’s only a matter of time before equity is used as currency, in order to consolidate.
With my money, ahead of numbers from Apple Inc. [[AAPL]] , I want to be long names that leverage off of the At&t network, such as: TEKELEC [[TKLC]] , Ceragon Networks Ltd. [[CRNT]] and ADTRAN, Inc. [[ADTN]] . I’d be shocked to see a weak number from Apple Inc. [[AAPL]] , positively mortified.
Separately, I am intrigued with the on doings at [[ENTR]] and how many of their MoCA chips are being placed inside cable set top boxes. Moreover, with Verizon Communications Inc. [[VZ]] offering further discounts for its customers, in an effort to draw in more subs, which will require more ENTR chips being deployed at Verizon Communications Inc. [[VZ]] aka their biggest customer, providing everything goes according to plan, ENTR‘s stock price is heading higher.
Finally, I am bewildered by Corning Incorporated [[GLW]] weak share price, given the “robustness” of its business. That’s quite alright; I have all the time in the world to see this thing through to $20. Oh, keep your eye on Equinix, Inc. [[EQIX]] , for it’s about to “roll.”

nothing. Just being its usual self.
I think it could re-visit the 2.10 -2.15 range sometime tomorrow, where it could represent a decent risk/reward opportunity.
we need a top 20 list of “Most likely to be Acquired” stocks that are in your opinion….
being that M&A is the topic of the day…and ripe for the rest of this year…..
20 is hard. I can throw out a few later.
much obliged.
as they say in the south…
Lists like that are on PPT. They are for closers.
We’re all closers here. It’s just that some of us close better than others. 🙂
Dollar starting to swan dive just like it did 10/19/87.
Wonderful memories of a time gone by.
TC:
The buck isn’t swan diving, it’s on a weakening trend. Everyone keeps saying the buck is collapsing, but it isn’t.

I can’t get over how people are buying the Euro as though it’s a best thing since Jesus walked the earth. That currency is a piece of fucking dig shit too and the Yen is potentially worse. This whole move into the Euro pile on is so gay it’s disgusting.
I agree totally J: the Euro is crap. Just like every other single fiat currency out there (including your oh-so-obvious obsession: the greenback) . I recommend gold, or maybe silver. Hell, I would take some dysprosium over a paper promise. My saavy local chinese grocer might even take that for groceries as quickly as he will take silver ingots.
In lieu of the ‘nads to make such a move, if you must stick to the ever losing game of pulp notes, I suggest a currency that has something backing it up, other than debt. Even the renminbi comes from a country that produces more than it spends…
I’ve been begging all you fuckers to buy Aussie since the mid 70’s and all you’ve done is ignore me or fucking yawn apologizing because its early morning. The Aussie has done better than gold since the recent up-move.
And I’m not obsessed with the buck. Currencies are relative value plays and I don’t think the US Dollar is shittier than those other two turds.
I’m not selling the Dollar against those two, I’m long Aussie against the US.
RE:”I’ve been begging all you fuckers to buy Aussie since the mid 70’s and all you’ve done is ignore me or fucking yawn apologizing because its early morning. The Aussie has done better than gold since the recent up-move.”
Agreed, that would have been a nice gain, so I do count it as my loss for not paying attention and/or seeing it for myself. Also, I recant my hasty insinuation concerning the object of your infatuation:
I know your fiats will pimp you out to any currency with a rising member on the charts, and I mean that in a good way.
Frack, you have to go to the freakin’ Rolling Stone to get decent financial coverage in the mainstream media these days: Who wears short shorts? It’ll take a couple of minutes, but its well worth the read. And if its actually truth (which seems doubtless), then I can’t help but wonder why all you Americans allow this to go on and on and on, ad infinitum. I thought you all had the right to arm bears; remind me of the exact purpose of that clause in your admirable constitution again…just how short are all your memories, anyway?

GLW Corning lazy today due to weekend power outage at their production facility in Taiwan.

GLW/AUO action was knee jerk to LPL report:
“LG Display (NYSE: LPL) — one of the biggest players in LCD TV-Land — sees inventories of LCD panels surging toward year-end, and extending into early next year. The observation comes as an especial surprise in light of LG Display’s other announcement yesterday — that it plans to sink as much as $4 billion into a joint venture to build a panel plant in Guangzhou, China.”
LPL is rebounding now from the over reaction …
I had a six digit position on my PETS trade and its down 10%!!! I also got back in on FTK and its down another 2%! For the love of God!!!
Timberly, you’re not supposed to include the two places after the decimal when talking about your position size.

If ISLN shows a profit, which it may due in my opinon, the street estimate is (.03) the stock may take off. Storage is in high demand right now and they have the number one storage soultion in the biz. Better than NTAP, EMC and IBM. They are able to add hundreds of terabytes of storage in not time at all. There solution can manage petabytes of data the others are not even close. They are also backed by some impressive names like Jim Simons’ Rennissance Techonolgies, Summit Capital, Atlas venture and other just to name a few. It may take time for others to notice this name as it is a small company but their customer list is impressive ; companies that need tons of storage like Facebook, ABC, NBC, sony Music, NASA etc.
This is one to watch IMO as they make their way to profitability.
MCD has been ripping since mid September
Did I happen to notice a curse word in the marquee?

gold up again, TIPS continue their rise — Inflation is coming boys. Even though the Fed says it is not. That’s precisely why it is coming, becuase just like everything else they fail to see it or they see it when it’s too late.
As I posted on this board back in November and December I bought TIPS and TBT when the Fed annouced their shell game, which in time I figured would create a liquidity trap, inflation, and a treasury bubble
