Today is a classic bounce day, which will inevitably lead to an egregious short squeeze. For the day, I did very little, unwilling to sell or buy. I sort of just sat here, hyper active off large caffeine intakes, twiddling my thumbs, going about my business in a dignified and honorable manner.
At the close, I will regain approximately half of what I surrendered during yesterday’s mud stomping. I am sticking to a thesis, no matter what you jelly fish eating sandbag makers think.
I speed down freeways, doing 125 mph, in diamond encrusted time machines, while you pick weeds out of your bullshit garden.
My losses in FAZ/SRS/FXP are acceptable, while long rifuckulous movers, like GMXR, ALU, ODP and TBSI.
There isn’t much to say, since the market is behaving exactly as it should. Just know, this is not the time to get bold with short positions. There are insidious forces behind this short squeeze, which will force the blood out of your brains, if you are not careful. It is indisputable, there are signs of improvement within tech. On top of that, there are cash rich companies on the prowl for mergers and acquisitions.

This morning sold my SDS I bought friday, and punted my small SRS position this morning. Will look to buy SRS 25% or so lower. For now I am long this market.

FAZ is so great. I mean here I was pissed I sold my position for “only” a 30% gain yesterday only to turnaround today and love it. Then about mid day I think lets buy some back before catching myself thinking, this piece of shit fucking tanks at the end of the day like clock work or shoots higher if its up. So I wait until the last 4 minutes and toss out a bid for a tiny lot at 9.15 and like a shark the ask swims right for the bid and hits it jumping it 10 feet out of the water. When all is said and done I bought near the low of the day which happened to be the end of the day like all these xx ETFS. Be it known I will NEVER buy a levered ETF until the end of the day.
UPDATE: My mistake it was 9.20 but it doesn’t matter either way.

Cuervos – I saw the same and I do think that is a good trade as long as you are prepared to be long vol. But this trade for me is just a hedge position. I think many of these ultra beta ETFs can be played that way.

People are shopping in very isolated ways. They are buying specific items and nothing more. Eventually retail is going to suffer and CRE is going to crater (more than it has) and that will bring everything else down. Who needs a fucking piece of CAT equipment when there is no reason to build anything. Except of course for the City Center project, which appears to be what will hold Vegas back for another 10 years…can you say too much capacity?!
And by the way, I’m sick of people saying that M&A is all of a sudden back and deals are going to bring the world back. You have shitty pharmas hooking up, even shittier homebuilders pairing (seriously, does anybody think this is going to make any difference?!), you have PEP buying its own bottlers. There is no real M&A!
Go around and ask the middle market investment banks, where most of the activity traditionally happens. They are all dead or dying. Deal flow is ridiculously low, except for the bankruptcy/troubled asset sales, which have their own challenges.
It’s bad out there.

I couldn’t agree more. The retail sector is very “hit or miss”. People ARE buying select things…a Blackberry is a good example. But you are right, the strong can’t carry the weak and these pockets of strength will be exposed for what they are…the exception not the rule. CRE is going to get pounded which is old news, I know. We, as a nation, are going to pay dearly for our “must have it RIGHT now” mentality. I know HELOCs have been reigned in by banks, but wait until credit card companies start cutting max limits in half in order to reduce risk. Johnny Sixpack will be intercoursed 10 ways to Sunday. Retail is going down….
