SAN FRANCISCO — Data-storage equipment maker Network Appliance (NTAP – Cramer’s Take – Stockpickr – Rating) beat analysts’ second-quarter expectations and issued bullish guidance despite ongoing weakness in sales to U.S. businesses.
Shares were recently surging $2.51, nearly 9.5%, to $29.12 in recent after-hours trading.
The company said Tuesday that net income fell to $84 million, or 23 cents a share, from $87 million, or 22 cents a share, a year earlier.
Excluding one-time items and stock option expenses, the company earned 32 cents a share, handily beating analysts’ consensus estimate of 26 cents, according to Thomson Financial.
Revenue rose 21% to $792 million, well above analysts’ average estimate of $759 million.
By the way I think a winning play would be long EMC short NTAP from these levels.
