Where Have All the Heroes Gone ?

“When we were children we all had heroes: the Three Musketeers, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Superman, the Green Lantern, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Iron Man and many other characters fought to defend the underprivileged and protect freedom.

They were fictitious characters, of course, but there was a lesson to be learned from them nonetheless.

As we grew up the characters changed to real life people: George Washington, Ben Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Reverend John Witherspoon, Abe Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and others were the people who shaped a nation.

I could not agree more with this writer.
It seems to me however that the heroes are going to have to come from the general population as the present Washington crew seems paralyzed by party politics and personal greed. They seem to be interested only in personal gain (witness Sen. Kerry’s investment strategy of using legislation to bump his personal nest egg) and/or getting re-elected so they can do more of the same.

Citizens need to get involved in the decisions being made in the national capital as well as at the state level. One of the major issues though is that good information on bills being considered and passed is so difficult to come by via traditional outlets. News that presents the essence and facts of pending legislation is tainted by the political slant of the writer, editor or news correspondent. People don’t know what to believe and do not have time to read verbatim through legislation written in legal jargon that even Nancy Pelosi is incapable of understanding.
On top of that we have nearly 50% of the general population either working for.in government or getting assistance of some kind from it. They don’t want to vote their freebies away. So…………in conclusion……we are doomed.
