The Market Set to Bounce: What Could Go Wrong?

Dow futures are up 98 and some little piker company, ticker PNX, just got bought out for an outrageous 169% premium.

Europe is moderately higher and of course Asia got crushed. Let’s see if US markets can lead the way out of the seemingly never ending spiral of margin liquidation, or continue to circle down the toilet bowl.

I don’t trust dead cat bounces – not till there is total destruction in the oil patch. That is, after all, what the market expects. Brazil must sink under the ocean. China must return to pottery and calligraphy, and the opium trade.

    A couple thoughts on Carl:

If you manage a fund, your income should be taxed in a regular manner. If you invest dollars into the fund and those dollars produce income, it will be taxed as a capital gain. Simply taking a piece of the profits is not investment risk – it’s a bonus.

His argument for repatriating money is hysterical…as if they will bring all the money back and open factories to employ regular folk…

I agree it shouldn’t be taxed in its current form, but let’s just admit that the money will be given to shareholders.

Earnings guidance is a joke, but that’s the fault of the analysts for not calling BS or doing their homework.

Bonds are being sold “on moss” to the public…makes up for Asian commentators.

His points about lack of investment into PPE is valid, to a point, as there’s no doubt companies are under-investing.

There’s a lot of truth to what he says, yes he’s out of touch in certain ways, and yes, its likely the charade is going to continue…but if we were to be “real” about the situation, it’s dire.

Extra credit for the Goodfellas clip.
