Barron’s published a “hit piece” on the refiners, this past weekend, hitting my Tesoro Corporation [[TSO]] , Holly Corporation [[HOC]] and Western Refining, Inc. [[WNR]] positions. And, oil is getting fucked up something awesome this morning, effectively tossing the market into a garbage truck filled with only jack in the boxes.
With my money, I will sit tight and wait for this little sell-off to pass, then load the fuck up on Sonus Networks, Inc. [[SONS]] , Starent Networks Corp. [[STAR]] , Tesoro Corporation [[TSO]] and General Cable Corporation [[BGC]] . I WILL NOT short this decline, despite having loads of idle cash just sitting here eating pretzels.

I’m waiting for the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 to get shot down in the Senate before going long on the refiners. The independent refiners are literally shitting their pants over the possibility of this thing passing. Check out http://www.capitolconnect.com/voicesforenergy/ . Under this regime, refiners would only be granted permits for 2% of the nation’s GH emissions even though they currently produce one third of US GHG emissions. Reliance has huge export oriented refineries that have recently come online and Saudi and Kuwait are not far behind. We are going to see a tremendous proliferation in refined products trading which will reduce demand for domestically refined products. This will also create the illusion that we are becoming more efficient as our crude imports will decrease even though it will be offset by refined product imports coming from places where they don’t give a damn about emissions. Right now, WTI storage is maxed out and shittier crudes trade at a premium to WTI. This sucks goat balls for refiners such as WNR who have laid out massive expenditures to upgrade their gear to be able to run sour crudes.
If they’re shitting, why did WNR insiders purchase $4 million worth of company stock in June?
That was before the bill passed in the House.
